I will start with one that happened last week.
I was doing an AP on a slot with a $36,000+ linked progressive $5 machine with $5 through $25 as the wagers. Not a must-hit and the progressive was not the play.
But that same progressive has hit before in that range so I was hoping for some icing on the cake (it didn't happen btw).
While I was playing a Ploppy female in her fifties sat down at an adjacent machine that shared the linked progressive.
Before having her seat she made a reverential rubbing of the plastic digital sign that displayed the progressive.
Her friends stood behind her and to them she mentioned she was feeling lucky and expected this might be her time. She was confident she would win the big one displayed. She rubbed it again in a windshield wiper movement, then loaded the machine with cash.
I sighed because I figured it would be my dumb luck the Ploppy next to me does win and then brags about her knowledge that really is non-existent.
Her friends extend their confidence that she may get lucky as well.
She then began spinning the minimum $5 per spin.
I glared at her, shaking my head. Ploppies can be so dumb.
Below the $36,000+ progressive were the words:
"Available only at Max bet".
Oh well, you can throw luck out the window on that one.
Feel free to add your own Ploppies are dumb stories.
The other day there was this lady playing who must have thought that machines pay better on “new money”
because after every single spin she would cash out her ticket and then reinsert it and spin again.
She did this on Every, Single, Spin.
She was betting the minimum 50 cents in this case. Watched her do this for over an hour.

Which is more dumb? Finding a way of minimising coin in on a losing game? Wasting over an hour watching her do it?
$:o)

I was doing some work in Biloxi Mississippi. This was many years ago. I was working on a slot machine for quite a while and struck up a conversation with the older black women playing the machine next to it. She was playing for about an hour or so and inserting $1 slot tokens. This woman was wearing long white dress gloves and inserting the dirty tokens. I mentioned that the tokens were disgusting and that I thought she was smart for wearing gloves (maybe not white gloves). Her retort was that she wasn't wearing the gloves to keep her hands clean but so the machine would pay better. Obviously, I questioned her about that and she explained that everybody down there knows that the machines pay better to white people and that is why she is wearing whites gloves. She was fooling the machine. I nodded my head and just stopped the conversation right there. I didn't see anything good coming out of a conversation where I explained it to her.

LMAO.
Now that's a good one!
Yeah I wasn’t just sitting there staring at her, I was playing something else, but yes her method would actually lead to a better result since less exposure to the house edge.
It reminds me of the people who stand at the cash out kiosks and break all of their bills into smaller denominations because they think small bills are luckier.
Even though the bill size obviously makes no difference, since they are spending more time feeding small bills into the machines vs. spinning they will actually end up with better results though not for the reason they think.
Others playing were laughing. The floor person who came to pay her said "what a waste."
She took the $1250 and left.
But who was the ploppie? This lady who took her $1250 and left... or the other players who poured in hundreds or maybe thousands trying to hit it?
My other short play story took place at Caesars. I was there when a lady had $1 left playing the $1 Wheel of Fortune. Max bet was $3.
On her last dollar she hit the 3 WOF symbols and was crying hysterically. People were trying to console her that if she had taken the time to add money to the machine she wouldn't have won the $10k on one coin.
She was only thinking about the million dollar + jackpot.
I hope that over the years she realizes how lucky she really was.
Quote: AlanMendelsonMy favorite short play story (I wont call this person a ploppie because no one has the right to say that) is about a lady playing the $5 video poker progressive at Bellagio. She was playing one coin... and got the royal. $1250 instead of $28,000.

Anyway, maybe 10 years ago at Borgata $25 min BJ shoe game. We get to the end of the shoe and guy leaves his $25 bet out. May have been an automatic shuffler or hand shuffle, I don’t really remember. Anyway, cards get shuffled and into the shoe and the dealer burns one card, showing it to the table. It was Ace. The $25 bet guy immediately grabs another green and emphatically placed it on top of his bet. He saw that Ace and saw it as a sign to bump the bet to $50. He did it so confidentially.
Did some poor Ploppies complain they were insulted?

You did. I dunno. Sacrifices we make at the altar of politesse, I suppose.
I wish I had an anecdote about Ashly trying to gamble. She has absolutely no clue, beyond "money goes in slot, smack button, maybe get something back".
She is convinced that understanding what pattern triggers a slot bonus will spoil her beginners' luck. I am convinced that by the time she starts to understand what line patterns are, she's simply validated that the house has an edge.
She did think that making a double-down meant she was allowed to cap her original bet. (The dealer corrected her; no daring speedboat escapes.) This was about 8 minutes after having all the rules and strategy explained and doing a bit of practice at a non-live table.
(sigh) At least she can cook.
After the rest of the table had acted, the dealer turn to her to see what she wanted to do. She dithered for a minute: "Should I stand? Should I hit?", then polled the table for advice, then asked a passing cocktail waitress what she should do. She then started looking around the casino for her friend to get yet another opinion.
At this point the dealer murmured conspiratorially, "Hey, before you decide, do you want to have a peek at my hole card?" Her face lit up as she enthusiastically agreed. The dealer made a show of peeking over his shoulder to see if the pit boss was nearby, then he carefully slid his face card aside, pointed at the back of his hole card, and announced triumphantly, "There it is!"

There's nothing wrong with being a ploppie when you don't really know better. IIRC, you yourself had a roulette system, or at least you were working on one or something like that. No doubt, you probably had some of your own slot theories back in the day.Quote: darkozQuote: AlanMendelsonMy favorite short play story (I wont call this person a ploppie because no one has the right to say that) is about a lady playing the $5 video poker progressive at Bellagio. There's nothing wrong with some recreational entertainment gambling even if you know it's not a good idea to play a particular slot or whatever. It's no different than putting money into a video game.
But can you imagine being a legit ploppie day after, day after, even after having access to this and other forums?
As I was walking through WinStar, I see a must-hit at about $47.50 and a guy is just sitting down at the game (hit by $50). I stopped to watch as I expected him to play until it hit. He’s betting 40 cents a spin and not hitting anything for a few spins. Much to my surprise he gets up and leaves when the progressive is about $48.00.
So I immediately sit down and start betting $4 a spin. After no more than 3 or 4 spins, I lined up wilds on the first four reels. So that was a $400 line pay, then I obviously trigger the $50 must hit AND I triggered the larger must hit at about $350. The spin netted me about $800. Obviously the machine is creating a lot of noise. I let it run through racking up the credits and then hit cash out. I took the TITO, and as I was standing up, I looked up and the guy that was at the game before me was sitting and staring at me with his arms crossed, giving me the “that would have been mine” look. I smiled and walked off.
