I'm not sure what the truth is, but I'm hearing that he did in fact make money having a friend bet this for him.
But the link to the twitter clip you posted, just won't do. This HAS to be the clip. :"pull up your pants, take off the bra and be a man". Still LMAO a day later.

Quote: kewljI don't believe the part about a prop bet. What sportsbook would offer a prop bet that the person placing the bet has a chance to influence or determine the outcome.
What will the player call, heads or tails?
What color Gatorade will be dumped?
How long will the National Anthem take?
Need I go on?
Online casinos take all kinds of crazy prop bets and people have been able to get large amounts down...Quote: kewljI don't believe the part about a prop bet. What sportsbook would offer a prop bet that the person placing the bet has a chance to influence or determine the outcome. More likely is that it was a publicity stunt to promote whatever was written on his "bra" or shirt. And if he was paid more than the fine, I guess that qualifies as +EV. :/

If getting down money on that bet was one of their goals it seems rather dumb to put down one big bet of that size. They should have recruited multiple people to get down smaller bets. That's not always easy and you would probably have to share some of the profits, but it seems like it would be a better strategy to me.
That is what would make be think the story is fake. You go though that much trouble but dont take it to the next level of thinking?
Possible some software glitch might let higher bets go through. But being unregulated, even the best places would just cite their policies and not pay out (if there are any local regulators, they'll take the side of the book). The shady places, which is the vast majority, would not pay out if they identified a group all making max bets. They'll have something in their rules against 'syndicate' plays, or something like that. Some places cancelled national anthem bets that were made after a twitter post showing a rehearsal, saying that meant the result was already revealed. Could easily use that as an excuse to cancel bets on this, if they thought someone had information on it. Or if it was new accounts and that was the only bet they made, they could use no excuse at all, just say they don't want that action.

The gatorade color and national anthem bet are not allowed in Nevada. Even the players call I don't think is allowed (I just gloss over the coin flip numbers; usually think it is "will it be called correctly"). Might be ok in other states. But wouldn't it still be illegal for anyone who is able to influence these things to bet on them? Tom Brady would not have been allowed to bet on the Super Bowl.

Brady isn't allowed to bet by the NFL, but would casinos stop him from making the bet? I'm quite sure you know the law better than I do, so I await your answer.
Don't boxers bet on themselves all the time?

The casinos are required to report it if a particpant is betting on anything that they can influence. Generally they would just have someone else bet for them.
$1,000 limit and they are they are only paying out to longtime customers; because it is Bovada, by definition, that means losing customers. Refunding losing bets is a cool thing for them to do.
