That said, who is going? I'll be there, of course. If there is sufficient interest, we can try to have a WoV dinner, but last year we blew it off and the year before there was a low turn-out. Still, I'm happy to see any WoV member. A good meeting place is the Scientific Games area.
The question for the poll is are you going?
Quote: mipletIll be there. My flight gets in at 2pm Monday and departs Friday at 8pm. Hmmm. How can we get Nathan to come? Think of all the slots she can play for free.
She would die. My wife loved it a few years ago. Unfortunately i dont know if we will ever go again because my conference is always the 3rd week in vegas and g2e is always before that. I doubt I will ever get to spend 10 days there.
So and dinner or group activity on Tuesday, Wednesday or even Monday, and Im in. 😁
Bonus: Long convoluted story. My wife will be joining me, but only for part of the week. She arrives Wednesday night around 11:30, and will join me at G2E on Thursday. Whwn the show is over, were gonna visit some friends of hers that live in town before going to Laughlin.
Its also unlikely that Ill be going to Cutting Edge this year.
Note: When I talked to Angela several months ago to tell her my plans, she remarked that she then might have to try to get a gig working a G2E booth just so she can hang out with me. Im not sure how I rank so highly, but Ill take it!
Thanks for the link, Wizard! Anybody using it should notice there's a top menu that says "tradeshows". Click that, and then on that page, there's a column on the left that includes G2E. When you click there, it takes you to their registration, with the link already comping your expo entry.
Angela will be with me at Cuttin Edge for all of her fans.
Im jealous. Take good care of her.Quote: mrsuit31Angela will be with me at Cuttin Edge for all of her fans.
I have it on good authority that Galaxy Gaming will NOT be doing an open house party.
So, anybody else going to G2E?
Any ideas/preferences on when or where to have a WoV dinner? Followed by group gambling, of course....

I have it on better authority that Galaxy Gaming is doing a cocktail reception on 10-9. I have the invitation right in front of me.
Well THATS interesting.Quote: FCBLComishI have it on better authority that Galaxy Gaming is doing a cocktail reception on 10-9. I have the invitation right in front of me.
I wont post my sources name or why they said it aint happening, but Im very interested in this.
He said Geoff Hall (Switch) is also coming and another name I forgot.
Although I didnt ask her, Im sure Heather will join us if we do something together.
Maybe the dinner / group gaming will happen this year. 😁
Anybody else coming?

I was coming, all booked and registered, until about an hour ago. My mom has suddenly lost vision in her left eye, and the first availability for procedures is that week. I hope you all have a great time, though.

Sorry to hear that Barb. I hope the procedure is successful.
Regarding Galaxy, I just spoke to one of their representatives and he said they are having a small private event at the Venetian, as opposed to full party at their corporate offices.
Regarding SG, G2E will not be the same hanging out at in their table game pit with their lovely dealers.
Regarding a WoV get together, I'm up for something simple. I'd suggest somewhere different this year. I am open to suggestions on that.
Meanwhile, astaxantin, vitamin D and hibiscus tea.Quote: beachbumbabsI was coming, all booked and registered, until about an hour ago. My mom has suddenly lost vision in her left eye, and the first availability for procedures is that week. I hope you all have a great time, though.
Good luck.
Sorry to hear that. Best wishes. Youll be missed.
Re Galaxy:
That confirms rumors Ive heard. Are any of us invited? If not, Tuesday is a good day for our dinner. Otherwise Wednesday is it.
Dinner:
I suggest Toby Keiths I ♥️ This Bar & Grill, towards the back of Harrahs. Also, do what I did 2 years ago: sneak out of the Sands thru the loading dock area, then a short walk to the Harrahs parking entrance. They open at 5 and dont get busy till late.
yesQuote: WizardThe 2018 Global Gaming Expo is a month away. The specific dates are Oct 9-11. As usual, codes for free Expo passes, which normally cost $299, are not difficult to find. To get in for free, go to www.videokingnetwork.com and scroll to the bottom for the free entry link.

That's a good suggestion just because of the closeness to the convention center. That's exactly why I booked my room there. It's a very short walk by Vegas standards to the Expo. It was comped all week, too. Wish I could pass it on to someone.

I second this suggestion. Perhaps anyone planning to go can meet at the Galaxy booth at the show closing on Tuesday and you can show us this secret route to Harrah's.
Can someone explain the "Don't let anyone scan your badge" option?
It's not that tricky if you have a good sense of direction. Simply walk towards that corner of the show floor, and don't stop at the curtains that you're supposed to stop at. Eventually, you'll get to some exit doors that lead outside where it's easier to figure out where you are and how to get to Harrah's.Quote: Wizard...and you can show us this secret route to Harrah's.
While it may seem sketchy, it will turn out to be a LOT shorter of a walk than walking thru Venetian, then past Casino Royale, etc.
You'd be surprised how little security there is. As long as you're not carrying something to make you look suspicious, nobody cares.
I think, because most of us are not really the vendor's target audience, avoid scanning to avoid junk mail and spam.Quote: RealizeGamingI'm curious about the poll.

Ive never been that way, but for years now, I go to the self parking/valet at the Venetian then take the elevator down to the garage. Theres a pathway out to the street between the Venetian and Harrahs.
Quote: RealizeGamingCan someone explain the "Don't let anyone scan your badge" option?
It's because that bar code on your badge has all the information you gave up when you registered, including Email and phone number. Anyone who scans it will have it. Then you'll get junk calls and Emails. Who knows how many people they will get share it with. Many booths offer free stuff and drawings. When you say "yes," they nonchalantly say, "Just let me scan your badge real quick." Don't let them, just say "I changed my mind" and walk away. It's not worth a t-shirt. Only let your badge be scanned by people you want to hear from. If they are there desperately scanning badges, you probably don't don't to hear from them.
As an aside, when you're just cruising the floor, don't be tempted to get pulled into booths of companies you are many degrees of separation away from. If they aggressively make first contact, just tell the truth and say that you're not even closely connected to their business. It wouldn't hurt to say "I'm not in the gaming business at all." To avoid the pitch, DON'T MAKE EYE CONTACT. This goes for all salesmen you don't want to deal with anywhere. It also applies well to strip clubs and certain casinos in Costa Rica and Panama. Thanks for listening.
That would be pretty surprising.
Why not some place like The Yardbird at Venetian?
Ill prob go to a meeting anywhere though.
Quote: RigondeauxDoes Tony Keith's have decent food?
I went there about three years ago. Food was decent.
Quote:Why not some place like The Yardbird at Venetian?
Let's not second guess ourselves at this late point. I, for one, didn't know about it.
Sounds better than the somewhat sketchy route I proposed. I was simply looking for a shorter path than thru Venetian and along the strip - particularly since I was suggesting a restaurant close to the Harrahs garage entrance.Quote: CrystalMathIve never been that way, but for years now, I go to the self parking/valet at the Venetian then take the elevator down to the garage. I like it. Plus, it opens at 5, and doesnt get busy till much later.Quote: RigondeauxDoes Tony Keith's have decent food?
Also, the group gaming often includes Pai Gow Tiles, which, last time I checked, Harrahs has one open 24/7.
Quote: WizardI can confirm the access to the SG table games area is by invitation only this year. If you're invited, you should be receiving an Email soon, if you haven't already.
Wiz, I don't believe this is accurate. The tables area is outside the main area of the booth, no invitation needed. To get inside to see a majority of the booth, you must be registered to their booth.

Thanks Wizard. Good explanation!
Quote: WizardThen what do you need the invitation for?
To get inside to see everything other than table games and a handful of slot machines (slots, sports betting, system, lottery, etc). Electronic tables are inside, but felt tables, progressives, shufflers, and a few other things are outside, no invitation.

Well, I stand corrected then. Thank you.

Exactly. Exit down from Valet, crosswalk to the back side of Harrahs. There's a narrow side street almost directly under the monorail.

Nope. This year it is different, I have a coveted invite. I'll let you know what was there.

In regards to tables, there's no invite needed. Tables are open to the public. And there's a handful of slots open to the public.
The rest requires the invited.
I suggest the Galaxy Gaming booth #4018. Much smaller and much closer to the exit.
Either way, 5:00.

Not fat from where I am, I will com over to say Hello to All.
She said if we can get there at 5:00 when they open, things will be easier. I told her that the show ends at 5:00 and this group is something like herding cats. Plus I dont have a head count yet.
Bottom line, I think we should try to get there as early as possible, but we probably need a Plan B.
Quote: DJTeddyBearI just had a conversation with the manager at Toby Keiths. They have big reservations already at 5:30 and 6:90, so its going to be tricky at best.

I suggest we meet at Galaxy at 4:30 and leave the show early to make the 5:00 opening.
Plan B could be the Outback Steak House at the Casino Royale.
