RIP STEEL
Quote: RisingDoughI'm sure many of you remember the poster named Steeldco. I just was acquainted with him last year when I became a member and we had similar interests regarding sports betting. I had some PM conversations with him and we shared some info via email. I noticed he hadn't posted NBA this season and at one point I shot him an email inquiring if he was at a different forum or just not posting anymore? Hadn't heard back for months until a few days ago. The email I received was from a family member letting me know that he had passed away back in August 2017. I just thought I would post to let everyone know that may have known him. I'm sure Steel is upstairs now still working on some systems!
RIP STEEL
I had no idea he was ill. We PMd a few times after he signed off, and he just said he was busy with other things, and taking care of them were his priorities.(the same thing he said publicly).
Damn. I had hoped he would return. I really enjoyed his participation here.
RIP, indeed, steel.
He was always friendly, I don't know that anyone ever had anything bad to say about him.Quote: RisingDoughI'm sure many of you remember the poster named Steeldco. I do I have a question: Is it normal for friends and family to answer emails letting others know of their passing?
I find that a bit odd, however, I wouldn't really know. Fortunately for me, I have had very little experience with people I know passing away. My grandparents, and perhaps a few people I had been friends with in the past but I didn't know them that well. Of course, recently there was our friend and partner perdition and it's still hard to believe.

If it was a heart attack, he may have not known either.

I think it's a new normal. People don't send snail mail any more. Their address books are online, rather than in a desk drawer. So I think.it was pretty considerate of the family to take that on.
I would have to think steel would.have appreciated and/or approved, too. Otherwise, how did they get the password to find his friends?

I would guess that my wife would do the same in that scenario. I would probably also look at her email and respond if she passed.

A lot of people are driven away from this site by the moderation. I was suspended for saying, "as the bell tolls" before. Now look at what has transpired since. This is really not the thread to talk about this though.
I did not know SteeldCo. Everyone is going to meet their maker one day. It is always a reminder to enjoy each and every moment that you are blessed with. Life is short.
Steel was an intelligent good member. I can't say that I knew him personally but would read his posts when just surfing that site as he usually had something worthwhile to say.
As to not knowing of his death until months later, my father had a "Doomsday File" in his filing cabinet full of passwords and legal documents we might need after his death. I should have logged into his Email to tell his friends of his passing but just didn't think of it at the time. I probably thought word would circulate among his circle but it didn't. Many people wrote to me months later expressing their sympathy and saying they had just heard long after his death. Might be a good idea to create such a list myself, just in case.
Quote: WizardI'd be interested to know how those stocks are doing now.
I entered the tickers into Stockcharts for the 165-day period since July 27th. The results don't look encouraging. 7 of the 25 stocks performed better than the S&P 500. Best was SolarEdge, up 137%.
14 of the 25 performed worse than the S&P. Worst was Applied Optoelectronics, down 72%.
4 of the 25 are out of play. Nimble Storage was bought by HP. Flamel Tech merged with another company to become Avadel. Infoblox and Albany Molecular were both taken private.

Interesting. Thanks for looking into it.
In that part of the market, it's probably normal to have some big losers, but you can make up for it by picking something that gains 500 or 1000%. He didn't have any of those, although had he been able to continue adjusting the portfolio, the results may have been different.

But yet you can't help but make an insult in the process. Shame on you, but I'm not surprised.. it seems to be who you are. If you don't like the moderation here... don't let the door hit your butt on the way out.

TBF, he did admit this wasn't the place to talk about it. :)

Good idea.
Can I start a thread that includes members who I want to leave us(not permanently of course)?Quote: WizardI should start a memorandum thread of members who have left us.

Please, do tell.
Quote: gamerfreakI enjoyed his MLB picks and made a little bit of money when he had a good run a few seasons ago.
I bet with him 2 times over the years. The first time he was on a 13 week win streak or something. I load 500 onto a sight and out it all in action. That was a weekend he went like 1-12. I couldn't help but to laugh.

Perhaps you were joking, but no. I'm not big on threads that only serve to divide.

Sort of the ultimate "nuke" only its from a moderator who is hopefully more wise and fair and loving.
would like to know the approx. ages of the people that died and what they died of, if known.Quote: WizardI should start a memorandum thread of members who have left us.

What difference could any of that possibly make? I can see having a thread so that when a situation like this occurs, the person posting it knows where to post it, but going back and listing former members ages and cause of death seems beyond the pale. We don't require people posting now to post their ages. If a member wants people to know how old they are, they can tell us. If they choose not to, why broadcast it when they are no longer around.
Of course I was joking. I momentarily forgot we had the suspention list, same thing. (-;Quote: WizardPerhaps you were joking, but no. I'm not big on threads that only serve to divide.

That’s very tacky and extremely inappropriate , this is a message board forum not a morgue.
The thread should announce that the person passed and maybe when they passed , no age needed and certainly no cause of death.
Any follow up posts should be thoughts from members about what they liked about that person , any off the board contact they may have had , and light talk about what the person contributed to this forum. The Paigow Dan thread is a good example.
