Quote: MaxPenWhat do you think the 5000 people working for the Secret Service do? Ex-President's and their families are under constant threat.
Secret service has a lot of other duties as well. Presidential detail is just one department. Most personnel are more involved in counterfeiting investigations and threats against protectees than are on physical protection details.
"The Secret Service has primary jurisdiction to investigate threats against Secret Service protectees as well as financial crimes, which include counterfeiting of U.S. currency or other U.S. Government obligations; forgery or theft of U.S. Treasury checks, bonds or other securities; credit card fraud; telecommunications fraud; computer fraud, identify fraud and certain other crimes affecting federally insured financial institutions."

Dunno. My only involvement with SS was financial, and politics is new for me.
OD can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Empire's former PM's have compulsory goon squads. I think RCMP/ Queen's Guard / Emu Brigade dispatches for things like public speaking events, but I don't think it's 24/7 personal shadowing. Makes one wonder...

Yes, I'm just surprised someone would he surprised that a former president still gets protection for as long as they live. Overall it is a drop in the bucket of the organization's breadth of operations.

Wasnt the protection, rather the level. Things like motorcades, or squads in public make sense. Having them in your personal driveway 24/7 was beyond my scope of imagination.
I'm probably just being fussy and looking for a fight. I'll get over myself now.

The so-called "ally" testified to Mueller's grand jury about his efforts to connect a Russian bank to members of Trump's transition team. His dementia finally got the best of him?
President Trump may be "a" problem, but he most certainly is not "the" problem. President Trump will be gone in either 18 months or 80 months or so; the Congress (Democrat and Republican) will likely have many of the same members. Presidents come and go rather quickly; people like Speaker Pelosi and too many others are around forever, mainly are only worried about staying around and unwilling to risk losing in order to lead the country.
Those two bodies have failed under both Democrat and Republican leadership. The leadership is horrible. No "both parties are not the same" but, holy crap, we get about the same results out of both of them. I get it at that Dems can get this bill through the House and Republicans can get that bill through the Senate, but it seems impossible to even force a President's hand by putting some kind of a decent bill addressing a problem in front of him to sign or veto.
Perhaps we should spend more time addressing the immigration issue and all the other issues facing us and less time figuring out how President Trump messed up the whole world today. Keep the investigations going, put him jail or impeach him if you can convict him, but we have other stuff that needs addressed at the same time.
Have a great day!

The ironic thing is that Ron talked about what "the" problem is. "The" problem is the people who think Barack Obama is an African terrorist and Donald Trump is an American hero.
There's no sugar coating it. Their priorities, morals, and character are severely out of whack. #thanksObama

I'm sorry, you are wrong. First of all, there aren't many people out there that think all of those things completely. There may be some. There also a lot that are just the opposite--that President Obama was fantastic and President Trump is the worst person every to walk on the face of the earth.
There are a whole lot of people who thought Hillary Clinton was Obama Lite and wanted no part of it. It wasn't the fact it was a female or that he was a person of mixed race; some people just can't accept that some people did not like him for the President he was and his positions.
I hear people who may have supported President Trump's election say that they would like to see different actions from him every single day.
Simply saying "racist" is overly simplistic and does no good.
I didn't say to not hate President Trump; I pointed to a bigger issue than him. He will be gone soon enough and Congress, no matter who controls it, will have done little or nothing to be a co-equal body of government. If you think you have a case for impeachment, pass the articles and get to it. If not, keep the investigations up but work on some stuff across the aisle that would help America.
Anyway, I find this thread, and the election one that I started, as worthless as all the other political threads here. Very few people here want a real discussion or do they believe that there a lot of screw ups on both sides (though they are not the same in what they want to do) holding up the business of running our country.
I'm out again...there is little sense in trying to talk to people that want to holler all the time.
By the way, I am not particularly happy with Republicans, either. It isn't like they are doing their job.
Have a great day!

Wow, one of the few times you made any sense.
Quote: RonCFirst of all, there aren't many people out there that think all of those things completely.
Aren’t many? Only millions. The last polling I saw, I think in 2017, showed that 51% of Republicans still thought Obama was not an American and was born in Kenya. This is years after the birth certificate. This is decades after the newspaper announcement. This is after Donald Trump’s team in Hawaii found “amazing things” that he never disclosed. What a crock of s**t, right? Nope, millions still believe it, the same millions that believe in the deep state coup.
Quote: RonCI hear people who may have supported President Trump's election say that they would like to see different actions from him every single day.
Therein lies the problem.
“I moved on her like a bitch,” Trump, when referring to a married woman right before saying that when you’re a celebrity, you can do anything to women, like grab them in the p**sy. Anybody that can co-sign and endorse that level of misogyny and bigotry that Donald Trump has displayed his ENTIRE life BELONGS in the basket of deplorables.

The birth announcement published by his grandparents ten days after his birth is not proof, and people can question the authenticity of the Birth Certificate.
No doubt he was born in Hawaii. His father would never have been foolish enough to bring his new unsuspecting American wife to Kenya, while his pregnant Kenyan wife was there waiting for him.

It tells anyone who is reading MY QUOTING THAT THE OP HAD A DIFFERENT MEANING and if they are so inclined they can go back and take a look.
What Fleaswatter did was actually not change any wording. He simply CUT OUT THE FIRST PART OF THE SENTENCE AS A DIRECT INCOMPLETE QUOTE in order to change the meaning SO THAT ANYONE READING IT WOULD INCORRECTLY ASSUME THAT'S THE MEANING ORIGINALLY INTENDED.
The difference? Allowing any other posters viewing the successive post to know it was altered.
