It is my emphatic nature that makes me feel bad to see people losing their money or getting HORRIBLE return on slots. I get upset when people win $2 on a .40 cent bet. I was upset when someone got 5 times their bet for for a full or nearly full screen of a higher paying symbol. Come on. Do you feel bad for gamblers who lose their money on slots? On a side note, I tend to not feel sympathy for people who lose money they knew they weren't supposed to play with in the first place such as utilities and rent money.
Quote: NathanSo, me and another person were watching people lose their money on the AWFUL Rumble Rumble. I commented to him,"This game is CRAP!" He replied,"I agree, this game is awful!" I said," I feel sorry for these people losing their money on this bad game!" He replied,"I don't feel sorry for them. They know what they are getting into." I left in disgust knowing I didn't want to play Rumble Rumble.

I play Slots maybe once a year, but I like Rumble Rumble. Why do you single that game out over any other for being bad to play? You're going to lose it on all of them.

Whenever I see someone playing Rumble Rumble, the payouts are always atrocious...
However, I expect to lose whatever my slot bankroll is. My philosophy is, I can lose everything and have some fun and get some great comp points and rebates. Or, I can get lucky and cashout (usually if I double my bankroll or more I cashout), in which case I won some easy money. So since I go in planning (and on certain days hoping) to lose it all, I always have a fun slot session because either way its a win win for me.

This is actually true, though. I've played some Rumble Rumble before, at least I think that's the one. It's the one with a weird lookin' Satan or bull thingie on it? Mostly like reddish and blueish?
Yeah, that game absolutely sucks. Like, I don't think I ever won more than 4x or 5x my bet, even in a "good" bonus round.
It’s all negative expectation. If you feel sorry for those people, then you must feel sorry for everybody that walks into the casino.
Even with your system? I thought you said that it could beat slots?Quote: GandlerI used to avoid slots, now I actually enjoy them.

I can. But, usually if I play slots its just for mindless relaxation, I dont want to sit there and think about the math for every spin.
This game seems to get some play, but I have no idea why. I think I've played enough on it to be qualified to offer a few observations:
1.) This game can often be a two-way must-hit (Major/Minor), but it doesn't have to be.
2.) This game has three decent pays which consist of:
A.) Free Games
B.) "Super Sweet!"
C.) "Super Sweet," during Free Games.
A.) Free Games are initiated by hitting three (or more) of the appropriate Free Games symbol. This will initiate Free Games and will also pay Scattered for the symbol hits. IN the event that Wilds are, "Covering up," a Free Games symbol, the Free Games symbol will still apply.
-Free Games are retriggered by hitting any two or more of the Free Games symbol while Free Games are active. This shall also pay Scattered, unless it is only two Free Games symbols, in which event, five additional Free Games will be rewarded with no Scattered pays.
-If three (or more) Free Games are hit during Free Games I THINK you still only get five additional Free Games, but that could be wrong. It could retrigger the regular amount of Free Games in addition to the remaining. It could vary by machine, so that may be why I don't clearly remember.
B.) "Super Sweet!"
This is the only decent line pay on the entire game and pays 50x the bet during the regular game and 100x the bet during Free Games. I believe, on some titles, that it can also respin itself during Free Games and pay twice.
-Super Sweet is triggered by hitting the special symbol in the center of Reels 2 & 4 at which point the game will proclaim, "Super Sweet," and will cause the whole screen to appear as Wilds.
-If the special symbol hits the center of Reels 2 or 4, but not both, the game will declare, "Sweet Zone," and turn Reels 1-3 Wild or Reels 3-5 Wild, which depends on the initiating Reel. Again, the initiating Reels are 2 and 4, respectively.
-If the special symbol is hit on Reels 2 or 4, but does not appear in the center, then it will just turn that reel Wild.
C.) Other Pays:
From what I can tell, the best possible other pay (aside from Free Games) is usually 20x the bet and consists of a Sweet Zone along with a stack of the highest paying other symbol and a stack of wilds, or stacks of the highest paying other symbol, on the other two reels.
Does the Game Suck?
In my opinion, unequivocally. I give it a 2 out of 10.
People must like it, though, because it has been in many casinos for a long time. I couldn't imagine playing it for any reason other than the must-hit being good, bur for the must-hit to ever get good, people must play it. I have found good must-hits on it, ergo, people are playing them.
Here are the things I don't like about it, although, I admit one or two of these might only be things an AP cares about...
1.) No Slam-Stopping!!!
-This means you have to sit through every agonizingly boring spin at a really slow pace. If you have a positive play and want to minimize Variance, (which I do) that entails betting the minimum as long as the pays are not otherwise effected, (i.e. proportional to bet) so not being able to slam stop really sucks.
At fastest, I want to say you maybe get 800 SPH. That blows. Maybe they could make the base return percentage better if it could be played faster.
2.) Animations on Worthless Spins!
-This is kind of part and parcel with #1, but the game insists on doing the full Wild expansion and, "Sweet Zone," animations even on losing spins. For instance, the special symbol on the top/bottom of reels 2, 4 or both, will result in the Reel being expanded even on a losing spin. Perhaps worse, the, "Sweet Zone," animation will take place if the special symbol hits the center of Reel 4, even if nothing on Reels 1&2 match and the spin is a loser anyway.
3.) High Variance
-This is something of a high variance game with seemingly little upside, unless on a positive must-hit. It is NOTHING to run 50-60% on the reels over a prolonged period of time, by which I mean a couple thousand, or more, spins. You would never see, "Runs," this poor on Video Poker...and dare I say you wouldn't see them on the vast majority of slot machines, except maybe some of the newer Bells & Whistles 3D ones.
-The fact is that there are so few results that pay 10x the bet, or more, that it often feels like you're just going down the tubes with the whole thing. If the special symbols and Free Games aren't forthcoming, it is nothing to go a couple dozen spins without a single one being profitable.
Conclusion
Why anyone likes these games, I have no idea. But, some people must, or the must-hits would be at a good number much more rarely than I find them...not that I find them at a good number all that often.
That's what video games are for.Quote: GandlerI can. But, usually if I play slots its just for mindless relaxation, I dont want to sit there and think about the math for every spin.

Well, at least in AC, they do have video game slot machines now lol.

I know slot players who really don't understand what they're getting into.

I remember someone saying that slot machines are just glorified video games LMAO! :D

I'm more of a Vega guy... but they all have their own strengths and weaknesses. I was thinking along the lines of a best of 5 match which allows for some good strategy as to which character you start with.

Which version of Street Fighter 2?
The original version, there were only eight, two people couldn’t play the same character, and Vega wasn’t an option. That version, Guile = win, if you knew what you were doing.

Honestly, it has been so long since I've played an arcade version, I don't remember which ones I've played. I believe I have Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and a SNES somewhere locked away in my basement.

I used to see my old calculus professor playing Keno in my neighborhood bar all of the time. Sometimes you just play peanuts for fun.

I think that's the definition of Carribean Stud Poker.

Im gonna brag here and say that if you don’t know which version of SF2, I would probably mop the floor with you. Before I met my fiancé, I was a really good SF2 player. But then again, I haven’t touched a joystick in like 6 years. But I’m sure it’s like riding a bike. We’ll have to make it a beer bet instead of $100, just in case it’s not like riding a bike.
To the original query...
It’s my hypothesis that people who play slots are not playing to win, but to entertain themselves. Of course, winning would be nice, and the illusion of free money is why they play, but that comes secondary to the entertainment aspect.
The last time I was at Harrahs, a couple sat down at a Buffalo machine, inserted $100 and on the very first spin, won over $2000. I immediately bet my friend a beer that they would walk away with less than $500 from that machine. No way they would cash out on that machine after the very first spin. I won the bet when they walked away $0.
There’s no reason to feel sorry for anyone who gambles.
If we're opening the floor up like this... I'll throw any amount of money that says I'll beat anyone here in q2ctf (PC - quake 2 mod - capture the flag), halo 1, 2, or 3 (xbox), or the original super smash brothers on N64... =).Quote: megapixels$100 says I can beat anyone from WOV at Street Fighter 2
Give me enough odds and I'll attempt to button mash you in SF2 =P.

That's actually really sad. Started off being $2,000 + up and losing it all back plus the bankroll. :(

MGM grand has installed the original arcade version in their this-is-our-desperate-attempt-to-attract-"millenials" area.

What's sad about it?
They knew the odds, they took a shot and lost.
So what?
Only a damned fool or an AP gambles with an expectation of winning.
Next thing you know you'll whine about how poor Johnny spent all his money on a new car, or a trip to Europe.
Money: spend it while you can.
