(Caesars property)
im ~7000 tier credits short of making Diamond Aspirations lvl 1.
so I figure 2500 tc in 1 day. (for those who don't know, 2500 tc in a day gets you a 5000tc bonus for a total of 7500tc.)

I decided to go for it because:
1) I (should) get guaranteed free 4 night stay in a nice room, even during holiday weekends like Presidents day and Memorial Day. (main reason)
2) they are running a promo of 20% of the TC you earn this quarter, including bonus, will be added to your 2018 point total.
thus 7500 x 20% = 1500tc for 2018. (minor reason)

after getting 1000 points, I'm up +$1000 thanks to a hot run.
but I ended down -$300 overall going for the other 1500 points. :(

20/20 hindsight:
a) being up +$1000, I could have used that $ to pay for 4 night stays during holiday weekends.
my rate is around $75/night for a premium room thus $300 total.

b) the $100 folio credit that comes with Aspirations lvl 1 is near worthless to me since I have $500 in reward credits (aka comps) sitting in my acct collecting dust.
yeah, and I could have used that comp $ to pay for the rooms as well.

c) they eliminated the +5000tc for next year for getting Aspirations lvl 1 this year, thus reducing it's value

so I blew all that $ to save $300.
penny wise, pound foolish?

Is $300 really that much when you’ve earned 40k tier credits? You should be getting quite a bit back in free play.

Use your $100 folio, the RC don’t expire as long as you earn one every 6 months.

You were up $1,000 then ended down $300?

Okay, if you're betting something like single line nickels and didn't have no money, I'd understand the frustration. But, c'mon, this just seems like a normal day and nothing especially "bad"....especially since you planned on doing 2.5k TCs going in, right? It's not like you were planning to only do 1.5k TCs, were up $1k after you earned those, kept playing and lost it all plus some.

$300 isn't that much.
even tho I have $500 in my comp acct, I didn't want to pay for the room.
I guess my mentality is if they're not going to give me a free room, then im not going.

and Im up 5 figures this year so I only get like $10 in free play.

correct. it's not bad.
I brought $2.5k cash with me since in the past, I've lost $1 for every tc I earned (not including bonus).

it's not about the $.
I guess it's about my thought process.
the main reason why im playing is to get to Aspirations to get a free room instead of paying $300 for it.

but when I was up +$1000, I should have thought of stopping since I now have the $ to pay for the room, plus a lot left over.
and I think I wrote something in the past about F caesars for cutting my comps + weekend free rooms.
so I probably would have taken that $1000 and stop playing if I would have thought of it at that time.

Mr. 100, I think we all wish we stopped when we were up the most. But unless you came in with a specific plan to either win 1000 or lose xx, why would you even consider stopping when you were up 1000? It sounds like you had a plan to make a tier level, and you accomplished your goal. If you brought 2500 with you and lost 300, that is probably around expected value, or certainly not some very bad run.

And you know as well as I that once you were up that 1000, the thought of actually using it to pay for a room never really crossed your mind.

(so I blew all that $ to save $300...............penny wise, pound foolish?

All life is penny wise, pound foolish particularly when you chase after some status symbol. You used your time and risked your money to gain some petit adornment to show you are above the hoi polio who pay for their own rooms and pay for buffets and wait in lines, etc.

Time, money, energy, alertness, presence or absence of Lady Luck (Lady Variance) is squandered if its just to gain some 'status' that the computers and ever-changing policies will soon erode anyway.

You go to the craps table you put your money down, you leave when you either run out of money or run out of steam. If you leave with seven diamonds, good. If not, so what?

The focus is, according to our fearless leader, "having a good bet". Its not on having a status symbol that is some illusory money-saving ego-boosting ephemeral charm.

yes, till the last 500 points (1.5 hrs).
that was a chore, mainly because i lost my profit and that was when it hit me that i could have paid for my room with the profit and have $$$ left over.

Good post.
yeah, i drank the Tier card kool-aid.

at a local casino where i only made the tier level via poker and dont get any comps, i easily walk away when i hit a good slot win. Good as in +$50.
i only play those games while waiting for a seat at the poker table.

but for caesars, where i have to travel to get there (ie: AC), paying for a room (even if using comps) seems wrong.
these tier level bonuses have done their job.
i chased it and went from being up 4 figures to slightly down.
well done Caesars.

have i learned my lesson?
sure, for now. (Their kool-aid sure is tasty...)

You actually had a GOOD run. It could have been much worse. On Martin TV show, Martin won the lottery and he THOUGHT he was going to be getting a check for over 2 million dollars. He went crazy on his credit card, thinking, "I can pay this back when I get my huge winnings!" He bought a bunch of expensive things, gave Pam a certificate good for free waxes for a year(LMAO she was LIVID at her gift, luckily he gave her a gold necklace in another episode, ;), a $2,000 gift for Tommy(I think he gave it from his actual bank account for that one). He bought a in home spa treatment for himself and bought fancy clothing for himself and Gina.

At the press conference, he and Gina were told that 300 people had those same winning numbers! Ouch! Martin would only be getting about $25 a week! They were horrified and Gina literally jumped on a Lottery representative's back realizing Martin did not win over 2 million dollars! LMAO Luckily he decided not to press charges as he understood that Gina was reasonably upset.

Anyways, this ties to your original post when Martin did some calculations and realized that if he returned all the tangible flashy stuff he bought for the apartment, he would still be down $1,000! He couldn't return the $2,000 gift to Tommy as that's really tacky(Hey, can I have back the money I gave you as a gift?) And he couldn't give back the spa treatment, and it's highly unlikely Pam could have given back the wax certificate, LMAO. You could have thought that you would be getting a check for over 2 million only to find out you are only getting roughly $25 a week! ;)
