This is some scary crap! Be on alert at all times! Get a police escort if you need to! People are incredibly sick these days! The extra sad thing is, it wasn't even money they won! They lost money and it was the money that was left over from their own bankroll.
Quote: GWAEHow does someone not realize they are being followed for 40 minutes.
I also was thinking how could you not see that the same car has been following you for around 40 minutes? They should have pulled into a police station! That would have put a damper on the robbers' plan! ;) On a more serious note, I shudder to think what could have happened if they HAD won a mega jackpot like the Megabucks that can award 13 million! O.O

I think that depends on traffic also. If it's light you might notice, but if the car is back aways or even behind another car you might not notice.
Anyway, the number of times I drove my mother somewhere and checked to see if someone was following us would also be about zero. Also, they didn't win a big jackpot, but apparently they flashed their money. Probably didn't even think about.
Also sometimes two talkative people in car won't notice anything, including pedestrians and cars that stopped in front of them!

But, it didn't say anything about them flashing their money. But you do have a good point about people chatting in cars and not paying attention to other cars or pedestrians! O.O
Leave it to you who would take all cash.Quote: NathanI also was thinking how could you not see that the same car has been following you for around 40 minutes? This leads to the following question:
Assume you won such a mega jackpot: do you have the option to INSIST on being paid in cash?
I reallize you might have to wait a day or two for the casino to secure the currency.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but does the State of Nevada not have a law that requires the casino to be able to pay any jackpots immediately? I know that might not be the case with something like MegaBucks, but I don't think that jackpot payoff technically even comes from the casino. It's either that or they have to be able to cover all chips on the floor, but I'm almost positive it is one or the other.

Venetian has a huge pgp progressive (it was last time i.played there anyway) and the dealers' tills were unworkable, because each table had the approx. 350k in the tray, plus the stupid computer, plus chips to play with. They were constantly having to buy reds, greens, and whites back from the players or other tables just to deal the next hand.
When I asked, they said Nevada law required them to have enough money on the table to pay any possible win. So I'm guessing that's the letter of the law.
They took his keys and his cell phone and left him on the side of the road.
I actually cleared the rack at one point of everything f black and above

Deserves got nothing to do with it. They weren't walking around in 6000 dollar sweaters either. I laugh at you people on here who think this world is more sick than in times past. Not many of you could of made it just a century or two ago when people would actually slit your throat for a dollar. I'd like to see you straight mathematical gamblers running around here in the 1800s trying to play whatever when everyone had sidearms at the table. A little different compared to you all sipping on your 25 dollar pina colladas playing in air conditioning. Heck most of you would of been hard pressed in Vegas in the 1970s when people would roll you in the parking lot and take you on a tour of the desert.
My point is that nobody is safe no matter what and at any moment things can go south or get ugly in a split second. Stop trying to live in some sort of fantasy world. We still have plenty of countries in this world where you'll get killed for your shoes alone!
Don't forget... we all got it coming soon enough.
Quote: billryanA friend of mine is a coin dealer. He attended a show in Orlando and afterward was driving home to Georgia. After stopping at a rest stop, he developed a flat tire a few miles down the road. While changing it, a van pulled up and two guys in hoodies robbed him at gunpoint. He had four large suitcases full of coins, worth over $125,000. He thinks they followed him from the show, over 250 miles.
They took his keys and his cell phone and left him on the side of the road.
That is beyond scary. Following someone for over 250 miles? Yikes! And I thought that a 28 mile following was bad!
They may have special rules regarding a Mega Bucks jackpot. The casino doesn't have to have enough cash to cover Mega Bucks...Quote: MrVThis leads to the following question:

IGT does. IGT comes out tests the machine and gives you a check(I think IGT is responsible for paying the money). They might have to pay you everything in cash if you request it I guess. Its hard to say how gaming would actually rule on something like that since they seem to have the final say, short of suing everyone. I assume IGT has the money and could get it to you in cash without a problem.
If you hit 400k in the casino they would have to pay you in cash if you requested it.

It was reported that woman was wary when complete strangers began flocking to her machine in droved when she hit an $80,000 win on WOF(They even knocked a nearby player out of his chair who was innocently playing by him and minding his own business) requested to casino employees she be taken to a back room to get her winnings in a check. Smart woman.
