Here are some of my collectables. I could have show you about 20 different shirts. The photo above is of a really nice black dress shirt with the Imperial Palace Logo on it. $37 in their gift shop (comped). Understated and feels like silk, it does.
I got the Lady Luck shirt before they backed me off over a decade ago. The "comped" shirt cost me about $2,400. I've worn it at Downtown Grand.
One of those decks of cards is from Caesars and its from before the 10s and aces were marked.
The Oasis Casino in Mesquite (of which I display the pen) was closed down years ago.
The backpack was from Binion's in 2006. I have one in red too. Never used either of them.
Feel free to show us your stuff!
Glad to see you are posting, hope that means you are doing OK..... Feathers.

I had an original 'Elvis in oil on black felt'. Lost it in a divorce settlement. She was, still is, a big Elvis fan.Quote: GreasyjohnYeah, 2F. Thanks.

If you're on good terms with her perhaps she can send you a photo.
Siegel Slots is owned by the gentleman who owned The Gold Spike before it went under. Don't walk the streets around Siegel Slots (used to be known as the Barcelona) after dark--hell, anytime.

Once again, PG please. :P
I've got a pretty decent collection of $1 chips from various casinos, but right now, I can't find it for the life of me. It's in one of my closets somewhere. I'll keep looking.
And here's the piece de resistance.
How timely. And the moisturizer has aloe in it.
I have other unique casino stuff in storage like grand opening VIP passes, special tokens/chips/players cards, small signs, ashtrays, NYE VIP stuff etc etc.
Quote: AxelWolfI usually just toss out the hats, shirts, jackets. I'll remember to save them from now on since people like that stuff.

Is there a viable market for these types of items? Is it worth the cost of storage to try to make some scratch later?
Or I could use this hand lotion. Notice that it says Binion's Horseshoe. That's pre-2004. Actually, I won't use this--I'll save it.
You'll notice this "bar" of soap is .75 oz. The bigger the bar the swankier the establishment. I've been comped at Bally's and I've been comped at Nevada Landing. I think Nevada Landing had a soap dispenser.
If I want to read about Pahrump in the spring of 2004...
I've got Las Vegas and What's On magazines going back to 1993. It's interesting to see how things have changed. David Brenner, Danny Gans, The Dunes.
I don't know, as we all know something's only worth what someone will pay for it. It's strange, because I'll see something that looks cool, old and rare, ill think it's gotta be worth $50+, yet I'll see it on ebay for three fiddy. Then I'll see something like a change bucket or swizzle stick going for $15.Quote: AyecarumbaIs there a viable market for these types of items? I remember when chips were all the rage and then that tanked, suddenly old slot cards were valuable(woot, I'm rich) then they tanked.
Didn't people collect and pay a bunch of money for beanie babies?(seems dumb to me).
That was just a popular Christmas toy that everyone had to get for their darling kids. Media attention and rumors about supply and demand creates a frenzy. It seems like every year there's a must have toy they didn't make enough of them(or did they?). Best marketing ever... you can't have one.Quote: GreasyjohnDon't forget Tickle Me Elmo dolls on Christmas around 1995.
Online shopping seems to have made this less frequent.
PS didn't they do a movie about this with Arnold ?
I've got 20 of these so I can practice my chip riffle.
Before it was the Linq, before it was the Quad, it was...

Quote: AxelWolfI oftentimes call casinos by the name I first knew them as, especially Binions, I say meet me at the horseshoe. I have to condition myself to call them their new names. I would like to see how someone would do (without the internet) on this subject.

I looked it up. But let's see if anyone remembers without doing so.
And, of course after that it was Terrible's. When it changed to Silver Sevens I had three $1 Terrible's tokens. I think they gave you 6 months to redeem them. I wasn't in Vegas during that period, so I have more collectibles.
Most people are confident they know (willing to bet) then they quickly blurt out Terrible's.Quote: GreasyjohnI looked it up. But let's see if anyone remembers without doing so.

I have some Terrible's grand opening $5 chips. I think it has the owner's face or something like that on them IIRC there are a where a diffrent ones.
They also had a 3 to1 BJ promo and a next hand can't lose promo going on. They had the travel channel(I think it was the travel channel anyways) in there filming. They let AP's play and were mostly friendly while they were filming. As soon as they stopped filming the hammer came down. Slimy bastards.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a chip #1 of 1k limited edition from Az charlies, it's a football themed one.. I always wondered if that had any extra value as #1 and football.

I have a Blackjack pays 2:1 coupon from the Laughlin Pioneer. They said it's good to table limit. But I haven't been to Laughlin in 12 years. I once had a blackjack pays 3:1 coupon at Stratosphere. Played an hour just me and the dealer at $25+ a hand for one hour. Never got a snapper. Then Stratosphere got rid of those coupons and the $10 match plays and I quit going there.
I went to the Stratosphere in 2007 with a friend. We both put our $10 on the pass line along with our match plays--shooter rolls a 12.
I tried to avoid craps as much as possible when playing match plays because my goal was to get it played as fast as possible and avoid getting noticed by the pit boss. Good match player can get off a stack quickly and unnoticed. Timing is key, get in just as they are ready to deal, always have chips in hand , your eyes always on the pit to see who has or hasn't noticed you, remember what dealers you played with.Quote: GreasyjohnQuote: AxelWolfMost people are confident they know (willing to bet) then they quickly blurt out Terrible's.Quote: GreasyjohnI looked it up. Do you remember that glass booth at the Imperial Palace? I went there and scoped it out and noticed I had about a one in eight chance of being called. So I stayed at IP on a comp that included two buffets, 4 free drinks at the bar and a possible drawing to the glass booth where the money flies around. So when they held the contest I went to the glass booth location and I was the first name called. I was able to shove $216 through the slot. A short time later they got rid of the glass booth. Used to have one at the Fitz too.
Don't remember where I got this conditioner, but the wording on the bottom right of the product says: Sicilian Red Orange Extracts.
Probably got it from a place that's still mobbed up.

Appears to be generic product w/o the private label attach to any particular hotel or casino. It would be cheaper to mass produce such item with single generic name and sell it to interested institutions in the hospitality trade.
Edit: Did you get it from a Stations property (Aliante or Sunset?)
Quote: AyecarumbaThe "Orange" in the description doesn't indicate the color, but the fruit. A red orange is also known as a 'Blood' orange, but who wants to put "blood" a beauty product?

I've only stayed at Texas Station (until they backed me off).
This pen is from the Eureka hotel in Mesquite, Nevada. This little town is about 80 miles northeast of Vegas. I haven't been to Mesquite in over 10 years. Casinos there would entice me to visit by giving me $10 each month in cash and two meals along with a hotel stay, all comped. I'd arrive the last day of the month and leave the following day to take full advantage of their generosity. Most people plan their gambling vacation around their life and their busy schedule; I plan my vacation around comps.
Once my girlfriend and I had three free nights at Sam's Town in Vegas and one free night at the Casablanca in Mesquite. We drove to Vegas and checked into Sam's Town, then immediately left for Mesquite. The stretch of road to Mesquite has a 75 MPH speed limit so you can make some time. The next day we returned to Sam's Town and went directly from our car to our room, no check-in required.
Once my girlfriend and I went on a gambling vacation and spent our first night in Pahrump, second night in Mesquite and third night in Vegas. It was fun checking into a different comped room each day. But it's also fun staying put in one place.
Anyway, the pen in the photo comes with a little story. My friend and I went out to dinner last night and when we returned to his home he couldn't find his keys. We searched everywhere including my car. Digging between the backrest and the seat cushion I found the pen. Haven't yet found the keys.
On a visit to Vegas years ago, I was playing BJ at the Fremont, and they were giving out swag for accumulating BJ's. They gave you a card and every time you were dealt a BJ, you got your card stamped. I forget how many I needed to get "Monty" here. Maybe 6?
Anyway, I brought him home to (at the time, the future) Mrs. Joeman as a souvenir of my trip. She still keeps it with her other stuffed animals.
I think 12 BJ's got me a windbreaker, which I ended up giving to my Mom.
They used to give these mugs out free everyday a few years ago. I always wanted to have a half dozen or so, but not as much as I didn't want to hassle stopping by each trip in order to collect them. (And I never liked the blackjack there.)
Below is the reverse side of the mug. (I've owned this mug for years and never even noticed that there was anything on the reverse side--I've never used it.) It says on the bottom, "Voted In The Top 5."
Below: For the well groomed.
Just some of the players cards I've kept from casinos that have closed or been renamed. Looking at the Stardust card reminds me of the $500 I lost there in 30 minutes playing their $25 min, DD, DA2, S17 game.
I used to be a VIP club member at Lady Luck. Just walk into their VIP room and pour yourself top shelf drinks from the bar. Snacks and nuts too. Once I lost my VIP status I still went into the club and helped myself. You just have to look like you belong. Nobody said boo.
Below are my active player cards that I use regularly (blue rubber band) and not-so-active cards (yellow rubber band).
I temeber working at Best Buy one xmas and one of the guys there was hiding all the Nintendo 64s and taking 100 dollar bribes to find the last one every time in the back room somewhere
Quote: teddysFremont was giving out a Pepsi Penguin, Polar Bear, and Seal a couple winters ago. I earned all of them and gave them to a woman in my office at the time. She was extremely happy. They were high quality plushes.
A guy named Teddy would know a lot about plushes!
The Oasis casino in Mesquite closed down years ago. Notice the interesting way that they cancelled their cards.
The Gold Spike (not to be confused with the Gold Coast or the Gold Strike). This casino is gone forever. I remember going in there 25 years ago when their max bet at blackjack was $50 and they didn't give comps (that seems hard to believe but that's my recollection).
About 8 years ago the Ramada in Laughlin was renamed the Tropicana. Notice the rounded corner cancellation.
15 years ago in Laughlin the Edgewater, Pioneer and Golden Nugget all had single-deck blackjack. The Colorado Belle did also but there was no soft doubling or doubling down on less than hard 10. (I can't remember the Flamingo having single-deck blackjack back then but I guess they did because my records indicate that I lost $1,385 there, and this was at a time when I only played single-deck.)
Lefty, The Ant, Tony Cornero, the skim, The Lido, my $500 loss playing their DD, S17 game.
42 years ago the Stardust had a Chuck-a-luck game. Three dice in a hourglass cage. It seems like you'd have a 50-50 chance that one of the three dice would roll to a certain number from one to six (take your pick), but it isn't, of course. You'd be bucking about a 7.5% house edge.
The card above is just one of the blanks included with the deck.
The illustration on the cards looks like Veronica Lake. At the Lady Luck about 15 years ago, when they had SD blackjack, I got the undeniable feeling that they brought in a mechanic to thwart me. You know when you look a mechanic in the eyes and just know?
On my next trip to Lady Luck I got my second back off.
The shirt above is from Paris Las Vegas. I didn't actually get this shirt from Paris but from a friend of mine who had it at a garage sale. He used to go to Vegas a lot. He'd stay at the Wynn and sometimes bet $10 on every roll on boxcars. I wonder if that's 29:1 or 30:1 at Wynn? Very thrilling.
A nice quality shirt. A little too warm on hot days. I was only comped once to stay at the Fiesta. Pretty basic room on the small side. But for me, it's always fun to stay at a new place. They used to have a $1 9/6 Jacks progressive and FPDW. And they used to give you a $25 free bet on your birthday, but they discontinued that some time ago (haven't been there in 7 years).
This is a really nice quality hooded sweatshirt from Downtown Grand. Soft and lightweight. Too bad the DG went to 6:5 on their DD game.
I like this shirt; it is understated and not loud-- until you look at the back, photo below.
But you'll see it says, "You're following a jackpot winner." They gave these shirts out when you did. It was my first VP Royal in August 2004. It was an 8/5 Bonus Poker progressive. Paid $1,076.
The photo above is of an Aliante license plate frame, just like the ones I have on my car. They gave these to new players club members. See how the frame says, "Celebrating 1 year of freedom." That's because Aliante had just become independent from Stations.
And Aliante is pronounced:
Ah Lee AUN Tee

Was the DG hoodie a comp? I recall they were giving them away for earning player points, but the jump from the free T-shirt to the hoodie was humongous. It was a pretty nice sweatshirt though, and the T-shirt wasn't too bad as free T's go.
And this relationship was going so well! Then, when the DG announced that they were selling over a year ago, the free room offers dried up.
But on to your question. I don't remember the circumstances exactly, but they were going to give me a free T-shirt for built up points or something as I recall. But they didn't have my size. I really wanted the hoodie and asked if I could have that instead and they obliged.
I didn't realize GJ was actually selling this stuff.Quote: djatcThat hoodie cost me $500
BTW, he got you on that one.
Go GJ!
There are some casinos where I win, and some casinos where I lose.
But you know what's nice? There are several casinos where I had a losing record for several years. Then, you go there and have a good winning session and for that casino you're in the black. Are you with me? It's nice when all the work and discipline from card counting yields a profit.
And it feels good to go to sleep your first night in Vegas a few bucks up, doesn't it?
Casino Royale used to give these T-shirts away once a month with their coupons. I have several.
This casino also used to have a coupon that payed you 2:1 on a blackjack up to a max bet of $25 (and of course one should not bet less than $25). This made their 6:5 game about +2.28% EV. Play the coupon then leave. Casino Royale used to be AP heaven.
Fitzgeralds. Back in early 1992 they had 3:2 SD blackjack. And that is when I had my first back off. I've since had 4 more at other casinos and they were all polite.
