My younger brother (early/mid 20's) has 2 friends in town from Florida, so I got them checked into a comped room at Hooter Casino for 3 nights and we ate at the MGM Buffet to be sure they started the night with some food in their bellies and weren't drinking on an empty stomach and then I came home and spent a quiet night at home with my partner watching football and splitting a couple bottles of Champagne. Very senior citizen-like of me. Even my Mother experiencing her first NYE in Vegas went out on the town with her new male friend/companion.
Hope everyone had a safe NYE and has a safe, happy, healthy and prosperous 2016.
Got home and spent a few hours playing Borderlands 2 and catching up on the final season of Top Gear. Then I remembered iRacing released Nurburgring Nordschleife, so I pulled out the G27 and fired her up for my own Touristenfahrten. Some 4 hours later, I snapped out of it and checked the clock - 12:20a. Did two more laps, shut her down, and went to bed.
Quote: DRichI have a nice view of the strip from my master bedroom window and can watch the fireworks while laying in bed. Sadly, I was asleep before 10pm and missed it all.
That must be nice. I wish I had the courage to make that move 10 years ago when I could.
I was asleep on the couch at 11 but wife woke me up at 1145. Kids stayed up till midnight and they were both asleep by 1205. I was likewise asleep by 1210. 10 years ago if you told me this would be my life I would have laughed hilariously at you
3 sets of killer music.
Opened 3rd set with the old Wilson Picket "Midnight Hour" to bring in the new year.
Bill Walton was dressed as old father time with a star wars sabre to celebrate the new year on stage.
Show was over at 1am. That's 4am body clock for an east coaster like me.
Flying back home to Tampa exhausted but happy.
Rang in the NY watching a Lewis Black comedy DVD, "Red, White and Screwed."
NYE is just another day to me really, a new year doesn't change anyone anymore than a Monday does.
- I received 9-9 about four times during my session (losing most of the splits); I was dealt 6-6 once, 8-8 once, and A-A once. I received no pairs of 2s, 3s, 4s, or 7s.
- I received 14 (!!) BJs (which still pay 3:2 up here) during my play, which saved my ass.
All in all, after 1.5 hours of play I went home down $13.50. Gotta love $3 BJ!!
I did try some card counting during my play. I still have lots of practicing to do, but it was fun to try. When I'd lose count, I simply feel back on my basic strategy, which I feel is nearly flawless. I did notice that when I count, I become silent at the table since I'm concentrating on the cards. (Normally I'm pretty congenial, chatting with other players and the dealer or commenting on the cards. I suppose once I'm comfortable counting, I'll be able to carry on normal conversations and still keep count.)
Joining this forum (last summer) has helped me enjoy the game more, in that I've learned that losing streaks are part of the game and to take it all in stride. Happy New Year, all!
Got Chinese food from the local mom and pop store.
Some people played card games and Scattergories and a goofy prepackaged card game we got for Christmas called CHAOS. It is fun because each player gets a secret rule card they have to enforce, goofy stuff like "You have to speak in the 3rd person" or "You have to complement another player before playing a card". So it is a decent party game.
I split my time watching football and playing cards. Shooed the neighbors out at about 1:00 am and headed to bed.

35 years ago, NYE terrifies me so much I never
leave the house after dark on that day.

Driving after the big game on Superbowl Sunday is even more terrifying.
Busiest DUI day of the year.

That's why I set my brother and his out of town friends up at Hooters, just off the strip for the long weekend. They can be close to all the clubs and bars and party their brains out with absolutely no driving involved. I dropped them off rather than let him drive. Just catch the bus up and down the strip/downtown.
They should be into nite 2 of their drinking/attempting to get laid "fest". lol. Ahh...to be young and without a care, again. :/
ps...I also didn't want them drinking and vomiting and bring girls back to my house all weekend. :)
Quote: BozWorked 32 hours in 2 days between NYE & NYD and now heading back in for another long day. With Christmas also falling on a Friday this year it is costing bars and restaurants a lot of money, so you have to control costs and make everything you can. Holidays don't matter to bills, they keep coming in.
Why is it costing then? I figured they would be even busier. Or maybe they are already busy on Fridays and xmas on a Tuesday makes a slow tuesday busy?
Most closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day. No revenue on back to back Fridays.Quote: GWAEWhy is it costing then? I figured they would be even busier. Or maybe they are already busy on Fridays and xmas on a Tuesday makes a slow tuesday busy?

I guess that makes sense, but restaurants are crazy busy on new years day around here. Figured bars would be the same.
More football, food, and drink yesterday but nothing out of control...actually a great time and no hangovers--but we did relive some stories from years past that were a good laugh even when nearly sober!!

In my case, I lost the busiest day of the week in Friday for Christmas and also Thursday Night for Christmas Eve. It was busier than normal the 23rd, but not enough to come close to a Friday.
For New Years Eve, it again fell on a bad day as it was a busier than normal Thursday, but NY Day was not close to a normal Friday.
So the numbers for the 2 weeks were way down.
Today was back to a normal Saturday and Sunday will be great as always with Football.
Among my websites I hit was this

Always wondered how I could turn that site into a living?? Find people and charge them 25% of the claim

For $28,000 a week it sounds like it was worth the stress.
"I showed up at 5:00. What I saw when I walked in was spectacular! There was a line of other folks also picking up and the line was 4 abreast and 7or 8 deep. This was a line you stood in just for people who had already ordered so you could tell the cashier the order # you were there to pick up. I heard people asking for order #'s above 300 and this was at only 5:00.
Behind the 4 young ladies that were asking customers what order they were there for was another 8 young ladies (2 behind each cashier) that were just fetching the orders.
I was in and out of there with my food in less than 10 minutes. This was clearly not their first New Years Eve rush. The level of organization and professionalism was outstanding and the food was great too."
The restaurant is not a huge venue, the owner brought in special help for NYE only.
My question: is this dramatic increase in demand for Chinese food on NYE unique to that area?
I can't say I've ever noticed or heard of it before, but I suppose it makes sense if many non-Chinese owned restaurants are closed in celebration of NYE.

Friends of mine own a Chinese restaurant in Windsor and New Years Eve is by far the busiest day of the year. Ran delivers for them a few times so the usual delivery guy could keep the woks cooking them orders.
The local pizza place we called New Years eve was picking up the phone and hanging up without saying a thing, Sister drove over and placed the order waiting 25 minutes for it( they remember who buys from them all year round)... the girl told her they had been doing that on the phone for over a hour

We stopped taking pizza and wings orders over the phone by 6 but continued to take orders online all night. Saves us time and gets people to use the online system. We can be making orders instead of taking them. Also less chance of translation errors when customers type exactly what they want.
Most younger customers love it, older ones are the challenge.
