But the maths is behind me. How can others expect to win in the casino except for the AP. So why go and donate your money to the casino and not some more worthy charity.
For the recreational player they must understand this is the most expensive recreation in the world. Cheaper to have a mistress I think.
I was in Macau recently and did not gamble. Imagine that.
I play for the Comps and if it is not good enough I will likely stop going to the casinos.
If I were to go to the movies or say dave and busters, I could easily spend the same 100 and have zero chance of coming home with any money.
BS how are you spending 100 at the movies?Quote: GWAEI go to the casino with say $100. I can get about 90 minutes worth of entertainment on that. Some days I come home way ahead and some days I go broke. I get comped dinner and a few drinks.

Your reason is not good enough either, unless you manage to be over-comped in cash value.

I don't agree, at least it does not have to be. My wife plays golf, and I hunt, and both of these cost much more for us. But I don't go nuts at the casino, or play slots, etc.
I almost did, but then decided that strictly based on the record,
I better sign in as a recreational player ;-)

More than once, while on the hour long drive home from the local casino, I'm thinking I would have had more fun going to a local titty bar.
But I also sometimes come home ahead. And that's where the balance is.

Have you priced movie theatre popcorn lately? Add candy, soda and a family, and the tickets themselves, and you're easily looking at $100. Or close to it.

Dinner and a movie easily runs $100, probably more

It's getting harder to find a 'good' dinner for $100, best go home and watch Netflix less you want to spend $150. ;-)

Huh ok $100+ for family movie + dinner but do you bring the wife and kids to the casino?? Leave the kids in the game room?
Quote: TomGIf I wasn't going to win, I wouldn't gamble. It's amazing to me how many millions of people in the world don't think like that
I agree. Breaking even doesn't interest me and I wouldn't play for comps. I played blackjack full time for almost 15 years and that was enough. I have left many a casino without playing because the conditions weren't to my liking. I find nothing entertaining about losing money to a casino. I still play a few times a week and can usually find a decent game.
You need to read his post lots of I's in it. He never said anything about we. And as already pointed out if you bring the kids and spend $100 Everyone gets entertainment value. $100 at the casino probably only allows him Entertainment value. I'm not suggesting that one is better or worst in terms of EV. I'm not sure how much he likes movie popcorn however he probably can't get that at the casino that's adding different value.Quote: DJTeddyBearMore than once, while on the hour long drive home from the local casino, I'm thinking I would have had more fun going to a local titty bar.

I don't consider fancy restaurants entertainment. There's only a few places I consider a treat. It pains me to spend $100 eating out. My favorite meal was $20. I would crave it often and get it many times a week for months. It was Korean style ginger ribs (hint of ginger),sticky beef rice, cooked cauliflower with a creamy sweet sauce and peas(I never had anything like it before or after and always disliked cauliflower). Unfortunately the cook left and so did the the items. Never fails, when I really like something, it goes bye bye.

I am basically an online gambler and often invest my time in playing online gambling games rather than land based ones. I really like poker, bingo and online lotteries.

Maybe not just the movies but with dinner it can easily get up there. Even a modest dinner like tgi fridays. Dinner will run $40. Tickets to a night showing of a movie are now $14, popcorn $8, 2 drinks $12. So for 2 of us it would cost $88, maybe not $100 but pretty close.
It's funny that people also say if you go to a casino and lose then you did not have fun and it was not entertainment. The last 2 movies that I watched were so bad that I dreaded watching the entire movie, that wasn't very much fun either.

I really thought that only happened to me. Everything I like something it disappears from the menu or from the store shelves. It is amazing how often that really does happen.
Quote: rsactuaryI answered "I gamble to win". I look for AP Video Poker situations, but if I can't find one... I'm still going to play.. by looking for the highest return I can find, and hopefully with comps, I come out at least even.
Except for the comps, and the fact that I'll play blackjack and craps on occasion, I'm the same way. I'm not a full-blown AP player, but at the same time, I do carry around blackjack and VP strategy cards.
