Of course it is only 500 and there are a ton of details including you must PICKUP the tickets with the same ID and Credit Card used to purchase them. So unless you can pick them up in person starting next Wednesday and have someone to sell them to, they have eliminated the 3rd party sales. Of course, the MGM and both fighters already have deals in place to sell most of the other 16300 tickets to brokers at high rates. And they don't want competition from the general public on this.
And they wonder why boxing died a long slow death.

Just about the only thing I haven't seen blamed for the decline in boxing is the change in the Olympic judging system implemented in 1992 that made "sluggers" fairly irrelevant, so you couldn't really build any "names" any more, and casual fans stopped being interested. Of course, having God's own number of organizations with their own titles (WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, World Boxing Guys, International Boxing Types, and of course the West 54th Street Ladies' Tuesday Afternoon Social Club, Country Music Association, and Boxing Federation) didn't help matters either - and when did "one fight per year" become the standard? Wasn't there a time when WBA and/or WBC required a titleholder to defend the title at least once every six months?

The fight that got me off of boxing was the first Tyson-Holyfield fight My eyes told me Holyfield whooped his ass, the judges called a tie. Too many results did not jive with my eyes, and I decided the sport was to be treated like the outcome was fixed much like the WWE or NBA.
Quote: WizardI'm tempted to show up to the MGM on Saturday and hope to find a desperate seller of a single ticket.
Remember Spinks Tyson, Atlantic City.
1st round knock out.
Scalpers were still outside trying to sell tickets to a fight allready over :-)
Not enough give in the market for that, I don't think.Quote: WizardI'm tempted to show up to the MGM on Saturday and hope to find a desperate seller of a single ticket.
I would hang out at the craps tables at the MGM before/after the fight, that would be fun.
I'm hoping for a panic sell off, in which case I'll happily but one. However, I'm sure I'm not the only vulture hoping for that.
Quote: WizardAs I write this is is 6 hours and 18 minutes to the fight. The cheapest ticket on stubhub is $2792. There is not a significant difference between the price for a single ticket and as part of a pair, which is unusual. For things like concerts it is tough to sell a single ticket and the buyer has huge bargaining power.

Best of luck if you score something Wizard. I heard the local ticket brokers are taking a bath and hoping to just get back what they paid so seems like it is definitely a buyers' market.
As for me I think cricfree will be nice alternative to dealing with that sea of humanity.

So what is your bottom line you are willing to pay, if you want to say?
Quote: BozSo what is your bottom line you are willing to pay, if you want to say?
I know I don't have much hope, but around $500.
Are you headed to the MGM to see what happens? Prices are falling; don't know if they will get to $500 but they've dropped $600 or so in the past hour or two...
Is desperation setting in for the brokers?

From what I gather the closed circuit events seem to be holding their price, but the price to get into the fight is plummeting. I anticipate Wiz will be able to get in under the $1500 face value, but I doubt it will drop below $1000
No, I'm not planning to show up. I'm sure the traffic and parking would be a nightmare at this point.
Quote: Wizard1:12 to go and the lowest price is $2169 with 210 tickets available. Tickets available were about double that a couple hours ago.

It's free here in Thailand. Coverage begins in one hour and fifteen minutes , 10AM local time. Fight expected to be around 11.30am local, apx two and a half hours from this post time. Late word is Manny will knock him out in the first three rounds. Don't be late!
Quote: ThatDonGuyESPN is reporting McCarran is no longer letting private planes land as there is no more room to park them. It looks like whoever can get their limo to North Las Vegas first is in line to pick up some quick cash...
I always wondered how they handled that in Vegas. I know here in Chicago, O'Hare makes landing fees for private aircraft so outrageous it basically prohibits them from landing there. Most private goes to Chicago Executive, which used to be called Palwaukee

Any chance you could do a round-by-round? Not sure where to follow it, if anywhere, short of PPV.
EDIT: Answering my own question, The London Telegraph claims they are live-blogging it round by round, here.
Just a word of warning, there are 2832908213908213 people trying to watch so there will be lag, just try some of the different channels to see what is the least laggy stream.
Also if you go off the site or click a link that asks you to download anything, obviously ignore it and move on. Plenty of normal streams.

Usually, ESPN has one online, but I can't find one for this fight on the site.
SBNation appears to have one here.
Speaking of the fight, somebody just tweeted this: "Russ Westbrook just brushed past Marshawn Lynch who brushed past Sting who brushed past a guy with a stack of 100-dollar bills as a necklace." Should we know who that last one is?
Quote: beachbumbabsThe London Telegraph claims they are live-blogging it round by round, here.
They may be claiming it but it looks like a tease -- just a bunch of celebrity pictures. Can anybody suggest a real live feed? There must be hundreds of people in there tweeting it, not to mention all the people watching it on PPV.
Quote: VenthusYou can get a textual round by round description on Reddit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Boxing/comments/34o2dh/fight_thread_floyd_mayweather_vs_manny_pacquiao/
Either there have been two hours of nonsense or this is another tease.

From the link:
I don't regularly follow boxing, but for amateur reporting, it's sufficient for me.
The headliner ('main event'? Whatever the correct term is.) hasn't begun yet, but it should be up soon. The undercards just finished.

It updates every 30 seconds. The guy said the undercard is still being scored, and they didn't make their anticipated start time because that fight went the distance.
Quote:It was supposed to be the hottest ticket of the year ... but it's gone cold ... and now multiple investors who tried to flip tickets to Mayweather vs. Pacquiao tell TMZ Sports they're losing BIG MONEY.
As we previously reported, ringside seats hit the market for upwards of $80,000 ... and face value of the crappy seats originally went on sale for $1,500.
A bunch of high profile ticket brokers and investors bought up as many tickets as they could get -- thinking it was a sure bet ... since interest in the fight has been through the roof.
But it just ain't panning out -- with one broker blaming the high prices and the fact that tickets only went on sale 10 days before the fight -- and investors are losing their asses.
One company told us they initially bought 80 tickets ... but only moved 20 ... and now they're holding the bag on 60 high-priced stubs.
"It's an embarrassment. We lost a significant amount of money," one broker tells us.
Same story for another ticket broker -- who tells us things have gotten "desperate" and they're slashing prices like crazy.
At this point, we're told brokers are just trying to break even ... and anything more than that would be a huge victory at this point.

I forgot that ESPN went through a design change on its site recently.
What appears to have replaced the "live blog" is something called "Now"; it's on the right side of this page. Dan Rafael is posting to it, so I assume there will be some live blogging of the fight, although I don't know how comprehensive it will be.
