"LAS VEGAS (AP) — The woman who came up with a neon sign that has welcomed countless visitors to "fabulous Las Vegas" since 1959 has died."

How many people have seen that sign through the years? Could/Should it have been copyrighted? How many places have copied the sign?

Google seems to give it a ranking about on par with the Hollywood sign. It probably could go either way in a poll. However, a billion Chinese may disagree with either opinion.

Insignificant info: There is a slightly smaller version of the welcome sign, in the median strip of Boulder Highway, just south of Eastside Cannery.

The sign should read "Welcome to the Las Vegas area."

Yeah, I think that went up in 2009 or 2008. Actually, they put it up and didn't electrify it for months. More near useless trivia.

And let's not forget the Welcome To Downtown sign on Las Vegas Blvd., just north of the Stratosphere.
I have a photo of myself in front of the Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas sign in 1992. This was my first trip to Vegas betting $25 to $200 a hand at Blackjack. Lost heavily. Nice photo!

There are also two others (with slightly different wording @ "Downtown" & "North") for a total of four. Not counting about 187,293 more on the assorted souvenir keychains, clocks, beer mugs, cigarette lighters, barbecue aprons, bathrobes, and fabulous parrot cages & cat scratching posts at the world famous Bonanza Gift Shop. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Suck dope, watch TV, make up stuff, be somebody on the internet.

It can be seen going north on Las Vegas Blvd., where it intersects with 4th street.

I don't recall seeing it, although that is not the route I take into the downtown area. Is it 'fashioned' after the more famous Welcome sign?

Kewlj, have you seen the huge gold nugget at the Golden Nugget. It's on display in an area between hotel check in and the casino.
