Came across this decent article about facial recognition which I was told is in use almost everywhere in Vegas. It is used for cheating, matching other property data bases of AP's as well as locating and finding their VIP players, etc.

Take a 10 min trip through Aria's security cameras and see what they have. They are focusing on the AP in BJ they admit.

Not just facial recognition but the cams in general and what they can see and their take on the AP player. Doesn't matter to me, I play baccarat and all the times I played BJ they never said boo if I won anyways. Thought the video was interesting to a point as to the technology. I'm too old to be a high tech guy, now one of my kids worked for Seminole in Florida for about 14 years and just moved to Vegas to work for the NGC. She is into all the technology and stuff, thank god, she gets paid well because of it.
Bac79=Hazardous Material and Chemical person correcting other's mistakes. Non AP'er, I can't count cards, low intelligence. Sprinkles magical dust on the cards. Has a lucky monkey. Baby also has a green one. Sum it up: "It's okay just blame me, it's all my fault"! ( No one believes me--so I chose to stop posting)

I've heard it's not very effective and not the boon to identification the creators sought.

My impression is that facial recognition, which is trumpeted by the casino's as the end all be all intelligence tool, is overblown. Maybe they speak so highly of it because they want to deter both AP's and cheaters by scaring them away. Maybe they don't want to admit that the money they plunked down for the technology isn't as effective as they had hoped for. In any case, not something I generally get concerned with.

No, dear rookie, you didn’t get nabbed by FRS. And I am here to assure you that while the NSA probably can listen in on your phone calls, they do not have satellite surveillance of your bet spread on that juicy 80% DD S17 LS game. (In fact, can we ban the use of the word “juicy” in describing BJ count games?) On top of that, the head of surveillance is not an ex-CIA operative, nor are you an internationally notorious assassin code-named “The Jackal.

I can think of one particular casino where no matter what I am wearing (and I look so different sometimes my own sister has walked by me in a casino) the security guard says hello, remembers my full name, and remembers the last time he's seen me.

There are guys who literally never forget a face. If I were staffing a casino, this would be very high on my list of qualities to find.

My wife remembers the face and name of nearly everyone she has met in her adult life, along with keeping information on who knows whom and how. She also knows the names and faces of many celebrities, politicians and other public figures (together with information about their various spouses and children). She has a steel-trap mind for this kind of thing. Me -- I'm more of a wet paper bag when it comes to this type of memory. But just ask me to recite digits of pi or tell you how many steps I've walked and I've got a chance.

Facial recognition has several steps. Computers have to capture an image, orient it in standard pose, compare it to twelve standardized faces, take each of 12 reference values and multiply them then file the image under a resulting index number.

For small photobases its not too difficult.

Much of the crowd control at the Venetian is to get people imaged from several camera angles and the computer to create a unified image.

Men who worked on cruise ships and had to keep track of passengers by class were always welcome in Vegas. Now the less-than-perfect software is welcome.

Who do you know in surveillance at the Venetian?

I wish I could remember things like that. I have always said that if I am every robbed I wouldn't even remember if they where male or female.
I had a really good friend ten years ago that called me one day and said he decided to move to Vegas. I asked him when and he said his plane leaves in the morning. This is the last time I ever talked to him. This was before everyone could text message. I have been trying to remember his last name for 7 years now.

However, I can remember 20 countries in Africa and 27 digits of pi, both which I learned in middle school. Go figure
Expect the worst and you will never be disappointed. I AM NOT PART OF GWAE RADIO SHOW

I was that guy at the casino. Not only players, but knew every single employee's name and position, from a director down to slop mopper. Every single one, even the part timers, and could recall it just by seeing a blurry, half turned shot from an old camera.

Now pi? I know 3.14 and eventually there's a 9 somewhere. That's all I got.
