So, I'm wonder what I should do once I get to vegas. Any coupon books that I can get some match plays or free slot play or stuff? Where can I get cheap or free food? Where's the best places to panhandle? Best places to cruise around for credits left in slot machines? Do any casinos have areas with couches or whatever I can sleep on? Should I sleep at a slot machine? What about stuff like showering? I'm thinking of getting a cheap gym membership or something to use the facilities at.
I have no delusions of grandeur or anything. I'll be happy if I can make $10 - $20 / day and get a few meals and maybe a place to stay once in a while.
When I land in vegas, I'll have $80 or so to work with. I plan on spending about $20 on beer before I arrive.
Quote: vegasbumLong story short, I lost my job a while ago, and I'm getting evicted from my apartment for not paying rent. I made a deal with the landlord. He's going to give me a 1 way ticket to vegas and $100 if I get out by the end of the week, since that's much cheaper for him than the legal fees to go to court and get me evicted.

As legit as this story sounds, I suggest hooking up with dobrij for money
The first thing is, go ahead and read this article:
https://wizardofvegas.com/article/free-play/
Questions
1.) What kind of job did you lose?
2.) What were the conditions of you losing your job?
3.) Do you have any felonies on your record?
4.) What previous jobs have you held and for how long?
Recommendations
1.) Coupon Books
There are a few casinos that give out, "Fun Books," in addition to other offers, for being a new Player's Club member with them. In addition to that, check magazines and the newspapers for other coupons.
2.) Beer
You should plan on spending $0 on beer before you arrive. If you absolutely insist on drinking, get Free Play when you sign up for new Player's Club cards and slow-play until a cocktail waitress comes around. You should have bigger fish to fry than drinking.
3.) Food
Check out Las Vegas Advisor website and try to find what the good deals are for cheap food. It's difficult to get free food without play, but there are a few tips for that in my article. It's tough to play enough to get free food if you don't have money, which you don't, so that's a pain. There are some advantage plays in and around Vegas, but you really can't handle the Variance of anything, given that you only have $100.
There are probably soup kitchens, too.
4.) Panhandling
I wouldn't know, maybe you can ask one of the porn-slappers who his boss is and see if you can get paid to slap some porn on the Strip.
5.) Credits
Again, I wouldn't know, I would figure you would want a high concentration of casinos if this is going to be your main focus. In and around The Strip, then, I guess. Downtown has a high concentration, but unless you want to walk several miles or pay for a bus (which would be a substantial percentage of your anticipated gain doing this) you'd probably have to pick one or the other.
As recently touched on in another thread, I feel compelled to mention that this is technically illegal, but the worst they would probably do is toss you.
6.) Couches/Machines
I've never really paid attention for couches, but I imagine if you don't mind essentially napping you could sleep at a machine (if you had a few bucks in it) for a couple hours and move to another house and do the same and maybe not get noticed. Maybe you would get noticed, I don't know.
7.) Showers
No idea.
8.) General Advice
I would suggest not telling anyone the specifics on how you ended up there. With all due respect, and by no means am I questioning your character, but if you came up to me saying you essentially extorted your previous landlord to get a ticket to Vegas and $100 just so that he wouldn't have to go through the full court process to evict you based on money that you've already not paid him, I wouldn't hire you or continue to talk to you.
HOTELS:
In addition to applying for casino support staff jobs, like dishwasher or server, or whatever, I would recommend checking out the lower-end hotels (without casinos) and asking them about housekeeping, security, or working the desk. As a hotel manager, I can say that it is not entirely unheard of to have someone who stays and works at a reduced rent and has said rent come out of his/her paycheck before he/she gets it. It's often very useful to have an employee usually on the premises and almost essentially always at your disposal 24/7. You can't fail to pay, because it comes out of your check, and it will give you the ability to save to try something better.
Quote: vegasbumI'll be happy if I can make $10 - $20 / day and get a few meals and maybe a place to stay once in a while.
Panhandlers in Vegas earn much more than $20 per day.
The fun books sound good, since I've never signed up for a player's club before I can sign up at the player's club of every casino I see and maybe get a few bucks off each one. And I do need to drink, slow playing a slot machine sounds like a great idea to get cheap beer. As long as the meals are pretty cheap, like $2 or something that'd be great. How long can you sit at buffets for? Because I wouldn't mind going into a buffet for breakfast, and staying all day and eating all day so I can pay once and eat for a whole day.
What's a porn slapper? As for getting thrown out for looking for credits, or the slim chance of getting arrested, I don't care. Same goes for sleeping somewhere in a casino. I don't mind getting kicked out.
And when I get there I'll take a look for some jobs. Do I need references for the jobs? Can I have a friend vouch for me and pretend he was a previous employer? Because I stole from pretty much every employer I've had so I won't have any good references from them.
Quote: vegasbumIt was a construction job. I got fired because I got caught stealing tools (I was selling them to a pawn shop) and drinking on the job. Previous jobs I had were a few jobs at grocery/convenience stores. Got fired from every one of them for stealing merchandise and/or stealing out of my register. No felonies, but I do have a misdemeanor for shoplifting.

In that case, you essentially have no useable employment references, so good luck with that. You might have a few good personal references, at least, I don't know. Have you considered seeking psychiatric help to see if you are potentially a kleptomaniac?
Definitely scout the player's club offers on-line and see what's best, some casinos also have had better promotions than what may be going on now, so seek out information on whether or not you should wait for any of them to have something better.
I'm not sure if they can kick you out of a buffet during the same meal, but they do have different meals at different times, so they might be allowed to ask you to leave if you are crossing times from one meal to another, by several hours, without paying again.
A porn slapper slaps books with phone numbers and pictures to make noise and get the attention of tourists and the books are for call girls. Your objective is to try to hand the books to people.
I don't know what specific jobs in Vegas require, you'd probably need some solid references to be anywhere in the vicinity of the money, that's for sure. I imagine you could have a friend vouch for you and you'd be subject to termination if it was found out that you or he lied in the application/reference process, though, with all due respect, you tend to give me the impression that such may not particularly concern you.
I'm going to let the thread stand in case it is legit, though.

But Just for a good story, Ill take the risk. Contact me Via PM 2 days before you arrive. I wont promise ANYTHING however ill make an effort for me or someone to meet up with you and go from there.
On a second note: If anyone in Vegas WITH A CAR, preferably someone just looking to make some cash, preferably someone retired, fixed income, collage student, housewife, lives with mom and dad in the basement. I have steady part time work. I don't care if you have awesome AP skills or knowledge(zero is fine), I just want someone reliable and self sufficient who can understand and take directions .
70% of the time you can make your own hrs with limited supervision and grow from there.
PM me and go from there.

Jeez! Here we have a pretty down and out sounding homeless guy with $80 to his name ,after essential drinking expenses, and aspirations to beg and steal/take abandoned credits and Mission proposes he might get a responsible job with access to customer rooms and all the personal and payment details that might go with a hotel desk job??? I understand that America is a land of opportunity but I sure hope that such jobs are subject to checking of references, or else I might not want to use American hotels.
:) No offence meant to OP or Mission. I don't think the OP was for real :)

Oh it just gets better and better. I'll get the popcorn.
I am voting for this to be the case here because the OP is too ready to shock. A real person would know damn well he was going to spend the money on beer, but all we would ever hear from him is how his problems come from elsewhere, not beer drinking, not stealing tools from the job, etc. It does tease my curiosity to never be quite sure! I also am entertained if someone takes them seriously, only to be disappointed later; often that is me too.
Is troll the right word? Is this something that happens at other forums?

I think the forum gave birth to a baby somehow and I think the father can finally use his maternity benefits for this child. Not a virgin birth, most likely was an asexual creation, though we may be talking with the first artificially intelligent, damn, the word escapes me.

The "is he cheating" thread was started on Dec. 23, 2009 and the trend took off from there. Many have joined around this time only to get something off their chest and disappear, to spill their guts if you will. Remember the female poker player who was going to be the next weight loss challenge? She even met the Wizard for photos.
The "relationship problem" thread was started on Dec. 16, 2011. A certain self proclaimed "juicie" person joined the forum smack dab in the middle of last New Year's Eve and made a first post shortly after midnight. On and on. Kind of sad.
What will this year bring pray tell?

You have the necessary qualities to become a casino executive.
Either that, or the piss boy / attendant in a men's room.
Remember, you won't fail if you never try.

I have similar thoughts. Reminds me of the Modern Family episode when Luke, Haley, and Phil are at CalTech and decide to take a test for $50. They go in a waiting room where's there's a "Do not push" sign next to a button. Turns out, the button just turns on the AC but the AC is broken and that isn't even the test (they think it is) and they get all emotional trying to decide if they should push the button or not. And like other stuff happens too.
LOL. I will neither confirm or deny that's who I was thinking.Quote: GWAEI didn't know Mario was in construction.

I agree with the remarks that there are some not exceptionally industrious (and also some not often sober) folk doing demonstrably better than forty from assorted panhandling and tap water peddling routines.
It would have been interesting to see all the different tips and thoughts folks had, to see how 'minimally' a young person could survive in Vegas, in this day and age, perhaps staying in the lowest end places, like El Cortez and Golden Gate (do they still rent rooms) and scrounging for food comps at the low limit places.
The days of the daily coupon runs netting several hundred dollars were before my time and are long gone, but there are still a few tricks and less frequent coupons and bargains to be had, especially for the first timer signing up for each and every players card and taking advantage of and milking every promotion. (things like purchasing multiple ACG's to use the coupons that have monthly limits).
I still believe a young person, probably male, willing to stay in the lower end places and milk the low limit joints for food comps could probably squeak by very 'minimally'. But even at the lowest limits and playing with an advantage some sort of reasonable BR would be needed, maybe several thousand dollars minimum. Certainly more than $80. Lol. talk of such a $80 BR just screams "hey this thread is a joke and I am not serious, nor worthy of your replies".
Only two meals a day, breakfast is 3:00am, and if you don't like the dangers of General Population you have to have money in your account for the commissary food which will consist of cookies, crackers, etc.Quote: GreasyjohnThe OP, that got evicted from his apartment, lost his jobs because of stealing from his employer, is looking for three squares and a place to sleep. How about CCDC?
NO, this is not from personal experience. A woman who made one mistake in a situation wherein none are allowed got arrested in Vegas a few times on heroin charges and let me know what it was like for her.
If I could get on a job with false references and got fired for it later I could care less. I'd probably get fired for stealing way before they ever found out I gave them fake references.
I've been homeless in new york before. In the summer it's not too bad (especially since you can move around town for free on the subways) but it's a tough place to be homeless in the winter. I've also been to jail before. It was only a few days for my shoplifting charge since I didn't have $100 for bail, but it was a miserable time and I would rather be on the streets than in jail.
As for having a few thousand $ for a "bankroll" that would never happen. Every time I've ever come into a decent amount of money I would spend it on liquor and sometimes hookers.

Well at Las Vegas you can save a lot of money on liquor. As long as you are gambling it's $1 to the cocktail waitress, unless you are extremely broke you can stiff them (I wouldn't recommend it but hey every dollar helps.)
As for hookers I can't help you there. You could route the savings from liquor onto a hooker I guess.
Can I order a beer and a shot from the waitress at once? Then I can get 2 drinks for a dollar.
But with gravitating toward boozed larcenous whirling around and the affinity for the company of hookers, would becoming a Las Vegas taxi driver in the resort/airport corridor be a natural?
Quote: vegasbumI went to atlantic city once and sat at one of the bars w/ VP machines. The drinks were free as long as you had money in the machine. Bartender flat out told me he doesn't care if I'm actually playing or not as long as I tip. So I sat there all night and drank all night for like $10 in tips. The only money I ever put in the machine was a 25 cent voucher that someone left on another machine.

You do have a problem if you don't have enough a money for your next drink.

Comped meals will be no problem. St. Vincent's on North Main will comp you a meal everyday at noon. Up around the corner from there, on Owens, the Salvation Army will comp you a meal everyday at 3 PM. They also have a day shelter there that will comp you a shower everyday. Then the Las Vegas Rescue Mission on Bonanza will comp you a meal at 5 PM. In addition, in the colder months, St. Vincents will comp you a pallet and a blanket on the floor in a big room with 400 dirty stinking men who haven't changed their socks in two months.
