Quote: TarzanAs of the last day or so when I come on this site I am being pummeled with pop ups and everything is moving slower. I can't type a complete sentence without another damn pop up ad coming up... the computer freezes up as it's about to pop up and I can't type anything, then after a few seconds the actual pop up plasters itself on my monitor screen and after some cursing at the screen, deleting the evil little pop up ad I try to regain my thoughts and can resume typing. Did I accidentally turn my pop up blocker off? Did Michael Shackleford sell his soul to the devil and allow someone to pummel the members of this forum with endless pop ups to score a few extra shekels? Something has occurred here within the last few days... Is this happening to anyone else?
No, this sounds like a problem on your end.
Quote: NareedScan your computer for malware
Yep. Sounds like a browser hijack to me.

This happened to me about 6 weeks ago. The guys here are right; your browser has been hijacked. I got the SUPERantispyware program they recommended and it cleaned it all off.
Remove Outfox.TV hijack (Virus Removal Guide)Quote: 1BBHas anyone had their home page taken over by OutFox.TV? That's a stubborn one.
Plenty of other sources for advise and instructions if you search for them.
Don't pay for anything. There are many good antivirus packages available for free. It's an old scam for a virus to sell you a tool to remove itself.Quote: TarzanI think I got it. Oops! Apparently I only have regular ol' virus and malware protection (that I pay for!?!) and not the super secret over the top SUPER antimalware deluxe?
The best Antivirus is to not visit porn sites, if you must, only visit well known porn sites. I have yet to get a Virus on this computerQuote: Mission146Avast Antivirus (Free) seems to have worked pretty well on my laptop and work computers.

I don't do that anyway!!!
I've also not had any viruses, which I suppose is not technically proof that Avast is working, but at least it's apparently not hurting anything...

OP is busted.
I have nothing. Do you pay for Avast?Quote: Mission146I don't do that anyway!!!

My other computer I downloaded a Movie player, I knew was iffy however, I really felt it was worth the risk,NOT, that computer is now filled with all kinds of crap. I think I need a disk to reformat it and I don't have one, any easy suggestions?

No, Avast is free.
I don't go to many websites, if the hackers start targeting gambling-related sites, though, I'm probably screwed.

No Porn! Come on now, get real.
You might have a "rootkit" infestation which most antivirus packages cannot possibly remove. Typically these types of malware alter the boot block programming on your drive and keep a copy of the virus in memory when the system is running. Even if you stomp out all the infested files on the drive it will reinstall itself from the in-memory process or else via the corrupted boot block programming the next time you fire up your PC. You need a root kit removal tool in this case. The tool will boot from a CD or flash drive and work with your primary drive while it is not involved in the running operating system. I've had good luck with the free tools offered by Kaspersky. There are others. This advice is given without obligation, warranty, guarantee or liability. Good luck!Quote: AxelWolfI have nothing. The source does not nullify the validity of the statement. My mother, a registered nurse, took all of her children around to visit kids with chicken pox, mumps, measles and rubella. So, we all gained immunity to adult cases of those viruses which would have had much more severe consequences.Quote: mcallister3200Since there's a finite number of viruses, proper basic strategy is to treat your body like crap when your young, that way when your older/weaker you've already had them. That's what some dude who stayed at a holiday inn express told me, so you know it's true.

No, Tarzan.
Sounds like Cheetah's running amok in your treehouse.
Damned computer literate chimpanzee!
Says who? Certainly not in view of how so many varieties mutate so easily and swiftly.Quote: mcallister3200There's a finite number of viruses.
I and quite a few people I've talked to have problems with shopping sites, some of the many invasive and tracking Google applications, as well as some travel sites, usually run by packagers and as travel agency fronts. Not to mention E-Bay. Besides Avast, NoScript on Firefox is particularly useful, but also not 100%.Quote: AxelWolfThe best Antivirus is to not visit porn sites.
Today I got emails from the card co. asking if I had run up a string of charges: I hadn't.
Damned fraudsters.
Wonder how they got my card info?
And no porn sites is just UnAmerican, are you a communist? Al Gore would be ashamed.
