I would like "management" to stop this practice. Either a person sends and receives PMs or they opt out of PMs entirely.
I had an argument with someone on this board at one point and the son of douche bag (okay...I won't insult the person's parents...let's call it the douche bag instead...) PMs me something nasty and doesn't accept PMs.
Pure chicken crap.
Diversity Tomorrow was already created to get this garbage off this forum... those who are interested in this stuff can read it there. I don't see why those of us who aren't interested should also be subjected to it.
Quote: AxiomOfChoiceI would like the "management" to start nuking accounts of people who post only off-topic stuff and contribute absolutely nothing of value.

Nobody uses DT.
I agree with you Axiom, but in my opinion I don't have a problem with anything they(management) are doing.

Perhaps banning the off-topic talk here would get more people to use DT? Win-win?
Why would anyone use DT when all the off-topic stuff happens here? Obviously there is no need for 2 off-topic WoV sites.
It would be nice to move all the political stuff there too, and keep this place focused on gambling (or, at least, gambling and Vegas). Of course I am guilty of posting in some of the off-topic threads too -- which would not happen if they were gone.

That's not true. Plenty of people use it. It simply doesn't have everybody, and doesn't have the kind of activity that WoV has.
The fact is, Nareed started an "Are You Happy" poll over there days before starting one here. In my opinion, that violates the double post rule that both forums have. And it negates his use of the "occasional off topic rule."
The BIG problem is that Nareed has so many people blocked, that he can't even follow his own conversations!
Mickey, just tell me this is delirious tremors. Surely theses folks have something better to do.

You'd think, but no.

Am I missing something, or is his/her not the proper way to refer to someone whose sex you don't know?
Using "their" is a grammatical error when referring to a single person.
I think his/her is always appropriate on a message board.

That was the entire point of DT, that politics, religion, abortion, or any other volatile subject be posted there as opposed to here. I don't believe there was ever a prohibition of off-topic here, just a wish to take the hot stuff to DT.
A few have migrated and stayed. Myself, pacomartin, FleaStiff, odiousgambit, Nareed, rxwine, AZDuffman... we talk about all the random stuff on our minds without fear of "clogging up your Vegas". A lot of the stuff over there is good. Others choose to peek in, declare it dead, and come right back to WoV. To Nareed's credit, she has given a DT a fair shake and has kept her off topic there for many months. I find it odd that one post has stirred up so much vitriol, while discussion of Obamacare, the election, whether or not a Miata is "gay", wacky creationist ideas, and the presence of a girl who may or may not be juicie have all come and gone in that time with no resistance whatsoever.
Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on which side of the fence you sit), Wiz is gentle and benevolent, and does not come down with heavy handed baby sitting in regards to these topics. Rather, he makes a requests and hopes the masses obey. The presence of off topic in WoV is not the failure of management. It is a failure of us.
Also remember, he and JB have taken great strides to make your experience custom to your own desires. Thanks to them, you may block users and entire threads as you choose, allowing you to see only the things your eyes fancy. And they did this all for the low, low price of free.
I disagree I have seen nareed addressed as both, him and her separately, to this day I have no idea if its a him or her, I think its a her. Only because nareed seemingly writes like a woman. Also I dont think a guy would be so hell bent on having a dinner party at the sugar factory.Quote: MoscaReferring to Nareed as his/her is an insult, one that you committed on purpose; you are deliberately dehumanizing her. I intentionally make this mistake all the time, such as, "Somebody left their keys on the counter" as opposed to "Somebody left his or her keys on the counter". I think it's only a matter of time before this usage becomes acceptably proper, just like referring to multiple females as "guys".
I also intentionally place sentence-ending punctuation marks outside of quotes like I just did, even though the punctuation character is supposed to be inside the quotes. This is a habit I have because of programming, since:
And Nareed was/is one of the biggest proponents of that wish. "It"? Dehumanizing.
Nareed is feminine. She has said that repeatedly. That's all there is. And now that you understand, you can take issue without causing offense. Unless your goal is to cause offense.
Mission, can you do us all a favor and just make this thread go away / ? ?
