Were you up or down for the year of 2013?
It's always interesting to do a poll every quarter and see where everyone is at. I asked this question 9 months ago, 6 months ago, and 3 months ago.
As for me, I finished the year down, unfortunately.

Down significantly for me. -$300 for just December, easily my worst month for this lowroller. A year of mostly video poker without a Royal is never good.

Including stocks, I'm way up for 2013. I don't consider what I do in the stock market to be investing. It's gambling and should be included in my P&L with the casino losses.

Net, I'm up a little under $1,000. I keep three ledgers:
1. free play grinding: up $1930
2. chip collecting (not counting travel costs): down $630
3. actual gambling: down $140
Only 1 W2G this year, from a slot win on free play in February. Plays in PA seem to fall into the $200-$500 bucket, where in MN they were more like $1300-$2500. Yay for higher hit rates and easier record-keeping. But, see #3 above...it could have been much better on a net basis...

I ended up finishing up about $800 for the year. It's my worst year since 2010, but I haven't gone after the VK Progressives at all, I don't think, and I only go after QHP now if the 5QH is REALLY strong. Most AP plays I do now are low-level and low-risk. I also lost a couple hundred, overall, in Vegas or I'd at least be over $1,000 for the year.
I'm ahead in 2014, though! I had $10 Free Play at Wheeling Island and saw a Rock Around the Clock at almost 9:00, fourteen consecutive spins that did nothing but 100% lose and $7.00 of the Free Play is gone, then the thing jumped me to Rockin' and Reelin' feature where I won $3.60 before going to Jukebox Jackpot where I hit the Major for $21.5x dollars. My next five plays (had to finish the Free Play) all 100% lost, so I was ahead nearly $25 for the year before I gave back $5.00 of it on straight negative expectation Video Keno.
So, I'm about $20 ahead for 2014...a few pennies over.

LOL, the casinos were my profit center, but only for pocket change. I got flattened in stocks: Goldcorp down 35%, Newmont Mining down 45%, Pan American Silver down 30%, FML. It was a bad year to be a contrarian.

I was about even for 2013, but only because of a nice $700+ hit on a dollar machine at the Silver Star in Philadelphia, MS. This was my largest lifetime win so far.

I like how you think! Individuals cannot beat the market buying individual stock shares. Gamble on individual stocks. Invest in index funds. Eugene Fama basically won the Nobel Prize in Economics just now with that.

with the $5k win in nov, I upped it to $25passline/continuous come + max odds.
lost $2500 :(
the following week, decided to play $15passline/continuous come + max odds.
lost $1500.
Now back to $10passline/continuous come + max odds.

Down.
Took 2 Vegas trips last year, Nov trip and Dec trip .
Nov trip, did really well, probabbly lost less then a 100.
Dec trip was close to breaking even, down less then 100 , till last full day when I lost about 375.
For year considering everything, local gambling, fantasy baseball for money, football pools, joining office lottery, Vegas gambling, down about 500 for the year. Not too bad considering how much low roller fun I had. Last trip, played a bunch of craps for the 1st time. Next trip in the spring, planning on pai gow poker for 1st time. Practicing on the game site here. Fun game, Gotta think a little and love poker.

Down $695. Considering I had over $45K total buy-in that's not too bad - less than $5 per "session."

Gambling (limited to Lotto purchases) about $30 invested $18 return. Poor, in a word. I gots robbed twice on the 2/5 no pay in MegaBalls.
Stocks OTOH, good $394K to $455K 61/394 = 15.48%. Adding $11K divi is 72/394 = 18.27% TR. CNI Split 2:1 in Dec.

no idea what my cumulative buy-ins were in 2013 but based on rewards points, I played $500k thru the e-craps machine, and that doesn't count the odds bets!!
at 3/4/5x odds (.374% HE), my theorectical loss should be ~$2000.
yeah for positive variance

Wow! I had a great year, best of my last 3 years, even if I won overall each year.
$3.5K+ profit cashed in (not counting $250+ which a site scammed me of) from online backgammon, the sad thing though, about $2.5K of these money was made from +EV tournaments on a network which in December has been shut down (williamsinteractive).
And about another $500+ up from +EV online casino promotions. (but without fortune I could as well be down $250 from these)
To compensate, this month I had found some really good online offers, but all went bad and so am down $800 for this year attmo.
