Drive to LA?
Got my rental car and I tried to take in something new each trip to Vegas....a day trip to see Hollywood and take in the LA KINGS Edmonton Oilers hockey on Tuesday night
Stub Hub has almost 1800 tickets available so that will not be a issue
And the weather expected in the LA area will not be a issue either

A few years ago we went to LA from LV and would have made it in just over 4 hours. I drive 5 over speed limit so I don't drive fast. However, like I said, WOULD have made it in 4 hours except we got crushed in traffic on one of the highways. I think it was the 605 but maybe the 10. I can't remember, but at any rate it took us around 5 hours.

We did something similar. Hopefully you would get a hotel room for the night before driving back.
We left Vegas at 8am and drove to Temecula. We stopped in Palm Springs for the tram into the mountains, outlets, and a few casinos. We did a hot air balloon ride over wine country in the morning and then drove back to Vegas. I love doing those quicky little trips.
If you have never been to LA you should do Hollywood and Santa Monica Pier.

LA Traffic makes Toronto look pretty tame. It's not really the number of cars involved, its the selfish disregard for others that is the differentiating factor. Canadians are nice people, while LA drivers are ridiculous pricks.
You can easily make it from Vegas to the LA area in 4 hours. It'll slow a little around Barstow where I40 and I15 run together, and again around San Bernardino as highways converge and descend entering the LA area. I'd guess you could make it onto I10 and be somewhere around Pomona, CA after 4 hours of driving. From there, it's a traffic-dependent 30-120 minutes to get downtown for the game (it's 30 miles...). You've called this a day trip, but are you really planning on driving back to Vegas after the game? You'd get in between 2 and 3am. If that's your plan, keep in mind that there is absolutely NOTHING between Baker, CA and Jean, NV. Not that you'd plan to fail, but the second half of the trek does not offer any fall back options at all.
The speed limit on I15 is 70mph between San Bernardino and the Nevada state line, but it's 55mph for trucks. That creates a frustrating situation where people who want to go 80 and people who want to go 60 want to pass the same truck at the same time. I think the speed limit between San Bernardino and LA is 55mph for all vehicles. I don't think I've ever achieved that speed on that stretch...

"LA" is a relative thing. From downtown? hell no. From the I15/I10 interchange in Rancho Cucamonga? Sure. But you have to be willing to drive 80ish the whole way and be a bit aggressive when navigating truck traffic. And it'd help if the final destination was the M and not the Cannery, too.

I've done it in 2 and a half hours. My buddy was driving and went 100 most of the way. When I drive to Vegas it usually takes me 3.5 hours including 2 stops for gas, food, or just to stretch. Granted I ususally leave after work at 6pm and wouldn't think of going on a Friday (or returning late Sunday for that matter) so I don't hit any traffic.
The speed limit is 70 but realistically there is no reason you can't drive 82 mph most of the way on the 15, and a 250 mile drive going 82 mph will take 3 hours. People will still be flying by you going 90 if you are going 82. From Mandalay Bay to downtown LA is about 260 miles so the wild card is if you stop and how bad the traffic is coming in to LA. I will say that it is a tough drive to make twice in one day, you would be wise to spend the night in Socal. Maybe drive back as far as Victorville and spend the night there so you don't have to deal with traffic in the morning.
IF there is an agricultural inspection at the California border... as you approach it, say "Rental Car from Vegas". Don't have any fruit in it, homegrown or otherwise. You will be waived right through it but it will slow all traffic down.
Driving a car 4 hrs is simple and relaxing compared to the trucks. Long days are nothing to me. Will see how late tonight goes when I get there... might be a Wednesday trip without the hockey game... get to see more of the area if i do that.

I agree 100% on your Toronto vs. LA traffic comment. Doesn't warrant a comparison.
During a weekday I'd plan on a good five hours, but it always seems everyone's always in a hurry to get to Vegas because of anxiety, then they're always in a hurry to get home so they can forget about all the money they just threw away. The trucks are the only ones going the speed limit. I'll go 5-8mph over the limit, but going that "slow" irritates the hell out of just abount everybody. There's no need to speed and risk a ticket or disaster. What's the point, to show off that shiny new car you're paying 72 months for? I drive a car that's speedier than most, and I mostly drive it responsibly.

It was nuts. No stops and 100+mph for the vast majority of the driving. We stayed at the stratosphere which was the biggest mistake of the trip.

This is the best post of all. Really what is the risk/ reward of going 90/hr. Really what is the great reward vs the risk of a 400 dollar ticket and having to go to driving school to keep the points off of your licesne. Or the risk rewatd of getting in an accident.
the reward is getting to LV 45 min earlly. Really? Is the world ending.Is this the last time on earth to gamble? Clains of drive times are like claims of phone plans. Whatever your plan..there is always someone claiming they have a better one........to the point where one upsmanship has a person claiming that the phone company pays them for making calls. The same with drive times...there is always someone claiming they made it in an impossible short period of time.
But then when you really look at it..they didnt start to time it until they were free and clear on 1-15. Its not door to door from their home to the casino.
technically you can drive to LV, and ave your car enter LV, and still not park your car at the hotel for another 20-30 min. But you can claim that you hit LV 20-30 min before you park. So what good is that.

Oh from Malibu to I 10 I15 interchange took like 3 hrs 30 minutes was 2 hrs 20 minutes from Staples Center to that interchange
way out I was cruising along at 82 miles an hour when this car comes flying up on me.... move over they sail right on bye me.... take a look the lady must be 80 years old and doing 20 plus over her age AMAZING!|!!

Welcome to LA :D As a resident of LA for all my life, I find it interesting when I hear people wanting to retire in LA. When I retire, I want to be OUT of LA haha.
