I have been reading about this for a few days before posting. Getting up to speed... Samsung wants to have the major Cel-phone service providers ATT, VZ, NOK, etc have a kill-switch app. The kill-switch would allow the owner to remotely disable the phone (re: wipe it clean) in the event of theft. ALL of the major carriers have said "No" and all of them within 24 hours. At least one major news-source (and is a newsmagazine) is even calling it "DOA".
I am not a conspiracy-theorist, and can be found giggling at tin-foil hats quite a bit. But I must say this does smack of at least collusion by the CelTelco's. And no doubt the LUCARATIVE Insurance policy riders are whispering in their collective ears.
For a starting point look here .
But really, after all this hoopla, Samsung and other cel-makers should simply chip the phones, and not depend on an app. On first start, one enters two irrevokable passwords(phrases) with codewords. Email or text the device using a codeword in the title and lights out. Revive the phone with the other password and codeword (upon retrieval or "finding" a lost celly).

Some people need to reimagine their thinking.

If you have an Android phone, you can already do this:
1) Log in to Google in your web browser.
2) Go to https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
3) Click on Ring.
I don't recommend remote-wiping your own phone, but there's a button for that too.

If I was a third party vendor, I might consider sidestepping them altogether, perhaps with a small stick on device for the back of the phone that triggers an alarm carried on a keychain or in your pocket if your phone gets more than a short distance away. Like for instance, if you start to walk away leaving the phone it would alarm before you get out of room.
Hey, someone should cash in where they are dicking around.

I always lose my cell phone, I thought about this, on top of that your cell phone should ring, if you leave your keys behind, but not your phone. I would buy this device in a heart beat. Now if i could only hear my phone every time it rings.Quote: rxwineQuote: 98ClubsFor a starting point look here .
