Quote: zoobrewThe scientific reason is because of the placement of the jet stream and if there is a big dip in the middle of the country. If it is a big U sometimes LV get the cold air rushing down from Canada and the East Coast get the rush of warm air from the gulf coast.
Thanks for sharing that, zoobrew. I am sure you are right.
Here in Vegas, we tend to pay less attention to these things. It just don't effect us that much. Usually when we look at the 7 day forecast, it just doesn't vary much. Usually sunny and whatever temperature which only varies by a degree or two for the entire 7 or 10 days in the foreseeable future. So when we get a day or two that are way out of whack, it's a shock. It's like "what the hell?" lol
We were playing our second and final 18 hole, four-man best ball scramble, this morning at Aliante in North Las Vegas.
We tee'd off at 7 and after 2 holes, they cancelled us for the day.
The guy in the Pro Shop said it was 47 outside with a wind chill of 37. Between the driving wind, rain and intermittent sleet it was miserable.
The unfortunate Hawaiian's were totally under dressed for the occasion. Luckily, I packed my storm gear and was not too uncomfortable.
Yesterday's round at Red Rocks Arroyo Course was picture perfect.
What a difference a day makes.
I didn't see them.
Quote: IbeatyouracesIt got to 76° here in Detroit today which broke the record of 75° set in 1938. Very possible to break tomorrows record which is also 75°.
Got to 77° on Wednesday.
Last November, N. FL was setting record lows.
Monday? 30"+. I hope it all falls in an hour =p
Quote: IbeatyouracesIt's currently 59° going to a high of the mid to upper 60°s breaking a 134 year old record here in Detroit.

strange to be outside today, my brain
says it's Dec and my body says it Oct.
I wore shorts and sandals when I was out and about today.
AMS has a new Avatar. Looks a bit like a young fat faced Trump? There has to a story here, I'm almost scared to ask.....
Although the average temps for Dec and Jan are just about the same, selective memory and small sample size in my 6 winters here, December always is worse with one spell like this.
Quote: IbeatyouracesIt's currently 59° here in Detroit. Still way above normal but reality is coming by Saturday with forecast highs of about about 32°.
See thats what I like about living across the river from Detroit.....its the weather reports. Winter just doesn't seem so bad when its called 32*F instead of 0*C or 25*F instead of minus 4*C
Its all good until you hit minus 40*F which equals minus 40*C ....been there done that its not pleasant to say the least
Can picture those poor folks in Vegas....winter coats, scarfs hoodies gloves trying to survive 49*F oh my!!!
On this date 4 years ago I had 2' of plowed snow
behind my car at the bottom of the driveway and
8" more coming. They were playing golf in the
light drizzle yesterday.

Christmas Eve and Christmas will be 85F here, if not hotter. Expecting to tie/break all-time records.
Bleah. I'm very tired of sweating to do anything. Yeah, I know I'm whining. I'd prefer Michigan weather.
storm was in the N Pacific and have been right
on in their predictions all along the way. 18"-
24" for DC and Philly, good luck with that.
last night. The week of may 10th is when most
people plant their flowers and gardens. It got
down into the 20's last night in a lot of areas.
The normal high for this date in W MI is 70,
it's 45 out there now. Some trees don't have
any leaves yet, and they're usually fully out
by may 10th.

toss in the snow this morning to boot.... SNOW enough to coat the roofs of the houses
cold enough that I didnt even complain that the brick layer doing my front porch took the day off
seeing how cold it was in this area over the weekend I guess we can expect the weekend murder rate in Detroit to be less than last weekends 21 shot at 17 different crime scenes and what was it 8 killed?

Something like that. The People Mover got one of its own tonight.

It's about 30 degrees too cold. And the sun sets about 4 hours too early.
Horrible weather.

Not me, that would be a horrible injustice. I wake up around 5am and I hate the idea of having to wait longer for college football to start on Saturday's. I have from 5am to 6am to get my morning chores done and at 6am I turn on College Gameday and watch that until the games start at 9am. I already have hard time staying awake to watch the end of the Hawaii game that doesn't usually end until close to midnight when they play in Hawaii.
Got the windows open today
Just love fresh outdoor air coming through the house :-)

I hate FL, every time I go there I
hate it more. Too much traffic,
too many people, flat as a
pancake, way too humid even
in the winter. How people can
stand to live there is a mystery.
My dad retired and died there,
he hated it too.

I'll take snow any day to living

the weather's nice.
Quote: IbeatyouracesWe don't have to rebuild our hurricane damaged houses every couple of years either. No snow, but plenty of rain today though.
Really not issue where I live
When was the last time you heard that a hurricane hit Tampa?
Hasn't happened in a long long long time if ever
Rain in the summer, yes, generally every day but its no biggie. If its raining, just wait 30 min, It will be sunny again.
