As a non-drinker, I've only this to contribute: Portland, long in the forefront of the microbrew movement, has now embraced the craft distilling movement, which is rapidly gaining momentum.
I wonder when / if it will catch on nationally?

My only complaint about craft brews is tye slow increase in strength. I like drinking a ordinary bitter 4% at times, but never seen such 'weak stuff' over here with same flavour as a good English ale. Maybe I have selective memory...
It's that catawba grapey taste I just can't stand. People either love it or hate it, don't make it wrong I guess. I know it's exactly what Sam Calagione wants it to be. Others that people love that I can't stand (not DFH brews): Dragon's Milk (New Holland), Old Curmudgeon (Founder's). Both are too strong, over the top, like someone dropped a shot into the glass. I just don't like the bourbon barrel aged stuff.
I only drink one alcoholic drink when I'm out, gambling or not. Bombay Sapphire and tonic/lime, Captain Morgan and Coke/lime, or Bailey's coffee. Generally I rotate while playing between water, Coke, OJ with cherries in it, and tomato juice or virgin mary with lots of olives. Yes, I'm a wimp.
Started drinking at 14, pretty much quit by 18 (when I became legal, back in the old days before national 21). As a kid, I could drink anyone under the table. Even mickeycrimm and his 35 shots. Got SERIOUSly drunk 3 times after that. One involved (thought better of telling those 3 stories on a public forum; ask me sometime if you must).
I get a little shy in social situations. One drink helps. More than one is not the best idea. School of hard knocks. Sometimes wine with dinner is enjoyable. Merlot, moscato, semillon, pinot grigio all great depending on menu.
Quote: beachbumbabsI am the Scotch hater in a family of Glenlivet lovers. I wish I understood the attraction.
I believe that you need to drink a lot of bad scotch to appreciate good scotch.
Quote: CrystalMathI'm right there with tringlomane, give me an IPA any day. I have gotten to the point where I'll just go buy a Sin City IPA for 5 or 6 bucks.
If you're at the Flamingo location, they'll comp you that. Just play 7/5 Triple Bonus Plus somewhat slowly. ;)
Beer:Boston Lager (since '87), prior was Pabst Draft
hard Liquor/mixed: Snakebite (YJ + Rose's) on the rocks (ahh the good ol' stuff was 100 proof)
If I'm really looking to catch a buzz and forget my troubles, I'll get bourbon on the rocks. I don't usually care what quality, but if in a nicer place usually it tastes nicer (what a coincidence!).
If I'm just chilling or had a rough night, I'll get a light-ish beer. I actually really like Blue Moon which you can get at the tables at most CET casinos and the nice MGM ones too.
If it's approaching 1am and I really want to keep raging until the sunrise, it's vodka and Red Bull. After a night of vodka and Red Bull I'm twitching and shaking and it gets hard to sleep, even at 9am. I have fewer of these nights as I'm now approaching 30.
Quote: AcesAndEightsI swear I already replied to this, but apparently I drink too much and killed those brain cells :)

Ah of course, here's that old post. Good to know my story hasn't changed much.

LOL Cheers!
Quote: DRichI prefer Rye. Canadian Club, Black Velvet, VO, or Crown usually do the trick.
That CANADIAN CLUB is aged and blended in WALKERVILLE Ont ( mile away from Caesars Windsor) pumped into a railcar, shipped to Tennessee and bottled in the good old U S of A now
And the CROWN and VO is likely made with alcohol aged by Hiram Walkers and shipped 15 miles to the Seagrams plant for blending to Seagrams standards
Oh the fun I had when I started working there rolling barrels out of the ageing racks onto the line to drain and fill .... the fools that would TAP a barrel for the HI TEST 140 PROOF aged whiskey .... now that was real POISON
