Archie Bunker: Sock-sock, shoe-shoe OR Sock-shoe, sock-shoe

Recently saw that classic All in the Family scene again, where Archie berates Meathead for putting on his shoes & socks in the order: Sock-shoe, sock-shoe.

That got me thinking, in what order do you put on your shoes & socks? I asked a bunch of friends/family, and out of 17 people, all of them do sock-sock, shoe-shoe. (Same goes for me)

They go on sock-sock, shoe-shoe, but come off shoe-sock, shoe-sock.

I do a sock and a sock then a shoe and a shoe in case there is a fire and I have to run outside, that way I will not be in my bare feet.

I usually do shoe then sock, but for some reason that doesn't work out...

On the days I wear shoes and socks, the socks are on well before I put on the shoes.

I like the days when I get to wear neither shoes or socks, as that means it was a day not involving going to work or the shops.

I voted sock, sock, shoe, shoe.

In reality, I'm sock, sock, pants, shoe, shoe.

I'm with the majority on this one. However, in the Vegas summer you don't see me wearing socks much.

That's crazy. Suppose there is a fire--you would have to go outside with no pants.......

Underwear, socks, shirt, pants, shoes. In my
house my wife allows no shoes of any kind in the
house on the carpet. All shoes are taken off at the
door and they should be. Do ya'll live in barns or

Boxers, Shirt, Pants, Socks, Shoes. I don't live in a barn, but we do not demand all shoes be removed immediately, depends on the condition of the shoes. My work shoes and my lawn shoes would come off right away, but my other shoes are optional. I usually go the mudroom and then take them off, but you enter the mudroom from the side porch and the front porch enters into the rec room, but the side porch (for whatever reason) has a walkway that leads to the street but not the driveway...even though you don't park in the street. I could either walk from the front walkway through the grass to the side walkway, walk from the front walkway into the street, then down the street to the side walkway, or just come in through the front door. I opt for the front door, unless I am doing yard work, then it's the side door because driveway position is irrelevant AND I want to make sure I get any grass off of my pants and/or socks in the mudroom.

When I was in pest control this sometimes became a big deal. It really isn't proper to ask a workman to remove his shoes, and it was a borderline safety issue if something fell on the worker's foot. Some people tried to say it was an OSHA issue, I never believed that. One woman had little booties she asked the tech to wear.

When I was first hired the tech who trained me was also a volunteer fireman and low-level EMT. He told me a story about a woman who called the ambulance when her husband was having a heart-attack. She asked them to remove their shoes! They chalked it up to panic and went about their business. Talk about how not to act in an emergency!
