Sorry to wake up an old thread (I'm really not sorry) but there is a strong possibility I'm going to finally make Burning Man this year. I've been talking about it for at least a decade but I finally have a group to go with. Just a matter of getting the tickets, which I hear is more difficult that it used to be.

I see in the video linked to above there were some unicyclists around the 1:10 point. That will definitely be my contribution to the entertainment.

While it seems kind of interesting, even the younger me wouldn't make the trip.
Best of luck if you get a ticket.

I assumed our AARP cards disqualified us old people from buying tickets.

Pretty sure SOOPOOs Sue is going. Maybe he can check if she has a line to them, or can spare any.

A big part of Burning Man is older men and younger women.

The ex is planning on going. I think her gang is renting a mobile home and driving a long ways to get there. I have no idea about tickets, and until this thread didn't even know there was a need for tickets.

You don't say. Hopefully they will be impressed by middle-aged men who ride unicycles. I am going with a group of other people my age.

Yes! I will have to brush up on my juggling while riding at the same time.

I have been given to understand that its not just old perverted geezers ogling the naked young stuff but that there is a distinct opportunity for young stuff to initiate contacts with said old geezers. Presumably this is limited to rich old perverted geezers with RVs and itineraries featuring various California fairs and hippie towns. Wasn't the youngstuff hashtag used at Burning Man three years ago?

Wiz:

I suggest you maximize the value of your unicycling / juggling skills by taking it to the next step, i.e.:

fire juggling

That would be a natural for Burning Man.

You might also want to figure out some way to incorporate an "art" component to your otherwise plain-jane unicycle; here is a bit of inspiration for you in that regard:

art vehicles on the playa

At minimum, festoon it with neon-like lights.

Remember, what happens at Burning Man becomes subject to non-disclosure agreements.

Enjoy.

My friend was unsuccessful procuring tickets the legitimate way. Scalpers are asking $2,000 a pair on Ebay. The original price is $450.

A good question is whether these scalpers provide an economic service or are just leeches.

Regarding fire juggling, if you remove the psychological element, it is the same level of difficulty as juggling pins. They are nearly the same length, weight, and center of gravity. I've juggled them unlit before. Still, I am not eager to play with fire, if you'll forgive the pun.

$450 for the RV park?

isn't there 'fake' fire where it doesn't burn hot?

I don't know. I was just told $450. Not that I believe in fate, but maybe it wasn't meant to be.

The STEP program opens in late April,,, Safe Ticket Exchange Program. Its designed to avoid counterfeiters and other leeches.
I believe registration is required, not sure.

Usually Kerosene or camp-stove fuel (white gas).

There was a bit of unscripted exicitement fueled with a dose of horror at last years climactic Man Burn, when an overly enthusiastic attendee slipped past security and intentionally ran into the fire, self-immolating.

I guess life really does imitate art.

Burn, baby, burn.
