Frank gives some advice to a player on another forum,
wising him up, if you will. And its pretty damn good
advice. I paraphrase:
An AP cannot think of money, ever, because such thoughts interfere with the exercise of your skill.
This has to be a Golden Truth of gambling. And you
hear the big time players say it in interviews. That at
some point you stop thinking about the money, it becomes
meaningless. You have an edge and you think about your
play, the money takes care of itself. The money is just a
way to keep track of how you're doing.
If you're obsessed with money when you play, if you're
emotionally attached to it in any way, you'll never reach
your potential as a player. If you're gambling with the
rent money, or robbing your retirement account, or screwing
with your kids future just to gamble, you have a problem.
You must have a large enough BR that's completely separate
from your everyday money, so when you sit down to play,
there is no anxiety between you and the game. No worries
about losing, just 'smooth exercise' of your skill, as Frank says.
If your playing for thrills, for the emotional roller coaster that has
you addicted, for the 'fun' of just playing, you're not a AP and
probably never will be. Them's just the facts...

It is always about the money.LeBron James does not pretend it is a pickup game instead of the NBA finals. Tiger Woods know it is not an office foursome, but the Masters.
There is a reason the casino wants you to use chips. If you can not handle the fact that it is MONEY, not chips or betting units, just hand the nice man back the dice and head to the penny slots.
Or else you could become a law student wondering where the hell did my MONEY go ?
Or a forum member who's suspension is up tomorrow and who has lost over $600,000 in the last 30 months.

You think a basketball player or a golfer is thinking
about the money when they make a shot? Only
amateurs do that, thats what makes them amateurs.
Pro's able to clear their minds so only their
skill comes thru.

Bob I could not agree more. That why I disagree that you must only think of your bet as chips.
When hustling pool the only time I really thought about money was when I was playing $10 nine-balll, with only $6 in my pocket.
But too many bettors think of their bets as just chips or worse, when ahead temporarily, as house money.
