The increasing furor over dice setting is eerily similar to the dynamics we see when powerful ideologies clash, with one group of zealots tangling with the other.
WoV is a math-focused board; heck, Wiz is the ultimate "math boy," to use a cliche.
A group of devout dice setters has set up camp here, and as is their wont, they've brayed, hooted and waved their hands in an attempt to proselytize and convince the nonbelievers of the correctness of their position, with oh so predictable results.
Is there a solution?
Heck, is there a solution to the increasing conflict between Western Christian Civilization and Islam?
As a not so great man once said ... vapid hope

IS there a flap over dice setting? I didn't think dice setting was any issue.
Can you control the dice after you set them? Now that is causing flappage!
Are you throwing fair dice? Even more flappage!
I find most of the discussion amusing, nothing more, nothing less. I will admit I have not even read the Biased Dice thread(s). I probably should, but my thought process is, the game is so balanced with the option of do or don't, that a casino who is using unfair dice would be setting themselves up for a player to take advantage of the bias. Give me dice biased towards a 6, and I will play Field and 11, 12 all night long. BAD bets on a fair table, but not so bad a bet with unfair dice.

I say let them post. Those that don't want to read their posts can choose to ignore or even block.
I personally believed dice influence in craps was a bunch of crap.
Then I watched one of Ahigh's videos. I am impressed by his setup at home and his approach to researching dice influence with the computers and analyzing video. These guys might be on to something. Its still probably all a bunch of crap but its also important to keep an open mind.

When somebody doesn't believe me, I could care less. Some get totally bent out of shape when not believed. Weird. I believe very little on all forums

I might want to point out that there is a third point of view. Folks who want all this to go away for another reason. Folks who don't like this attempted proseltizing in full view of those who could hurt them. Let's cut to the chase, if there is such a thing as an AP DI, the last thing that person would do, is go posting practice results and team play results. Then there is our resident Ed Thorpe wannabe. So hopefully with the vacations in place, new bovine feces blocked, we will get back to what this place was BA.

Hey , everybody needs a fix. Hopefully dice setting will not be destructive. Seen people destroyed by religion, gambling, etc.
You name it, it can destroy lives and families.

Shed not for her
the bitter tear
Nor give the heart
to vain regret
Tis but the casket
that lies here,
The gem that filled it
Sparkles yet

I agree, as long they don't go wild starting more new threads for every nuance of dice setting when it would go fine amongst one of their others without being any more wildly off point than most of the posts there.

I suppose the point I was trying to get at, albeit obliquely, is that notwithstanding all the argument and effort expended, I suspect there have been no converts from one camp to the other.
If that is so: then what is the point of arguing so vociferously?
Probably best to ignore each other.

Quote: MrVThe increasing furor over dice setting ...
The furor is not over dice setting but the zillions and zillions of threads beating it to death.
I think the Biased Dice thread that supposes some bias in dice is absurd. Players would have to figure out which two of five were biased and how they were biased without any real examination of them. The bias would have to be extreme to be noticed and one thing certain is that even in a poor casino, dice have a short life cycle. The one thing crews want is to keep the game fair and any theoretical bias seems ephemeral. If one die was biased in one manner and another biased in some other fashion are they additive or subtractive. Players would have to discern this without examining the dice.
