She and the therapist are each lying for various reasons of personal gain.

It's looks like each personality lost 800,000....assuming all personalities were equally poor gamblers. Love this story.
Quote:She was shocked to hear the total sum she had stolen.
"Oh my God. Really? I had no idea. That scares me," she said.
"No wonder they thought I was a good customer."
Throw the book at her. A big heavy one.
Dems de only kind I knows how to make!
>there are some pretty well documented cases.
Eve was encouraged by the therapist and Sybil was a work of fiction!
She's not clamming innocense because of it. Just ignorance.

The article implies this issue came up not at a trial to determine her guilt or innocence, but at a hearing where she (presumably) is pleading guilty.
It would seem that the multiple personality issue is being proferred as an explanation, not as a complete defense; akin to a criminal asking for a lighter sentence because of a horrible childhood.
Quote: FleastiffThere is no such thing as a multiple personality disorder
Schizophrenia is the closest thing, and it's very much like a different personality. Whether she can use that as a criminal defence I doubt.

Schziophrenia is nothing like multiple personality disorder.
Multiple Personality disorder is up for debate as to existence. There is a class of dissociative disorders, that MPD may or may not be example of, with bipolar being one common different diagnosis.
Quote: onenickelmiracleDoes anyone understand why the company stolen from cannot get it back from the casino? Is money not considered property? I know it's not done, but I don't understand why it can't be done.
Yeah, because she spent the money...and lost....and it's gone. Should the car dealer she bought a car for her son for, return the cash too?...If she had won money, would the casino be entitled to ask for it back?...NO. If she had spent the money on cat toys(thats a lot of cat toys I know)....would we expect the cat toy company to give back the money?...NO. The spent the money, it's gone. Period.
I'm not trying to be a smartass...ok maybe a little. Maybe I'm not understanding your question...why would the casino give any money back?

Like what they term "clawback" in profits (like Bernie Madoff case).

Thanks, but you obviously aren't qualified to answer the question either.

I think so. Aren't banks and casinos supposed to report suspicious activity when the patrons have money they suspect to have no reasonable means(drug dealing, other criminal activity).

Sure I'm qualified. I own and operate a business. When people want to spend money. I let them. Period. It's not my job to determine where the money is coming from. She made thousands of bets over years, and lost a lot of money. This is how casinos stay in business. Do you want them to turn away customers?
So yes, if someone is spending money from an illegal source, and a business knows about it. They have some obligation to report this/deny the sale. But absent that information. They accept the business. It's really simple. So instead of making smart comments about whose qualified to do what, maybe try to understand my answer.
