"Las Vegas Sands' $2.75 special one-time 2012 dividend translates into a nearly $1.2 billion payout to founder and casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, who owns roughly 431 million shares of his company.
This year, Adelson will pay just $178 million in dividend taxes to the U.S. government with the dividend tax rate at 15%. If the dividend rate rises to 43.4%, Adelson would be forced to pay $514 million on the $1.2 billion dividend."

We should be THANKING him, not belittling him!
He is paying ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY EIGHT MILLION dollars in federal taxes on that dividend alone!
How many $10,000 in federal taxes American families does that equal?
SEVENTEEN THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED families!
How many more families should his tax bill be equal to?
As far as soaking the rich, no matter how much you take from them, it will NEVER be enough, as far as most 'average' Americans feel.
You gotta punish him for his success......

Actually, a whole lot of companies are issuing special dividends ahead of the fiscal cliff curb. Costco issued a seven dollar per share dividend and they borrowed the money to do it! Issuing a special dividend before tax rates on those dividends does up is a "no brainer", not to imply that Shelly Adelson has no brain, just to say that everyone that can is doing it.

Yeah, I don't blame him for doing this at all. If I was in his position, I would consider doing the same.

I'm making some year-end moves in anticipation of increased rates in 2013, though as a blue collar union member it doesn't quite reach Adelson's magnitude.
