Personally, I'd rather live in Carson City (more "home" feeling)
All Reno casinos treat locals like DIRT, what I recommend is getting a POBox outta state and use that as your casino address...your offers will be 10x better.
If you need any specifics you can PM me...
The snow on the valley floor is not bad at all; maybe every five years it will last more than 24 hours...
Crime isn't bad...restaurants are plentiful, and the weather doesn't get bad at all normally...
Truthfully, if I could find work, I'd move to reno/cc area...
With the Reno casinos in decline, I would be worried about the long term prospects there, unless you are in a government related position. Even Higher Education may get hit hard as families move away to look for work.

Sounds like W Virginia. Reno was a swell place
in the 70's, but its heyday is long gone. All the
Calif casinos stole their business, and 90%
of it was from Calif. My mother lived in Sacramento
for decades and they'd go to Reno twice a month.
Why bother when there's a casino in the next county
now.

Because those local casino's offer NOTHING in the way of comps, as well as have NO decent video poker, and NO crap's.
However, there are a COUPLE Indian casino's in California that are very nice (Harrah's Rincon: Because it's assosciated with Harrah's; Barona: Because it actually DOES give decent comps AND has good video poker AND a pretty close version to REAL craps)
But then again, if I lived close enough to go to Barona...I'd ALSO only be a couple hours away from VEGAS...lol, so what's the point?
Quote: bigfoot66Because Vegas is a 4 hour drive from just about anywhere between Los Angeles and San Diego. The CA Casinos are as close as an hour or as far as 2 hours. That is a significant difference in time and gas.
I suppose...but it's also VEGAS, as opposed to an indian casino (Even if you wanted to go from Gas Lamp to Barona, to Rincon and BACK, it's going to take you a few hours...)
Hell, like I said, I drive 3 hours to get to Reno, weekly.
And if you're anywhere in the Valley, just hit the 15 to Barstow...

But usually thats what you want, a casual local
casino. Go play, go home. Sleep in your own bed.
Quote: bigfoot66not sure I agree. What tourist is gonna be in Vegas and think to himself Why don't I go to Reno, a place with all the same gambling opportunities but less dining and nightlife!
Well, I would go to Reno, and I lived in Vegas for over 14 years. Hey, there's skiing. More like real skiing than Charleston.
The gambling might improve in Reno with a hard link to Vegas, so it might help both cities. And Reno would be a hub to attact nearby people who then can easily get to Vegas. A few nice cabin/restarant cars, some light entertainment on the way (band on the train)
Or it could all be a big BUST like you said, heh. Just thinking outloud./
That's okay. Local Indian casinos do not have to be better than Vegas and they don't have to be equal to Vegas ... they just have to offer slot machines, blackjack and flashing lights. Thunder Valley bleeds Reno dry. Its geography over quality any day. You don't need a room comp if its only an hour away, you won't have a room at all. Meanwhile the Indian Casinos are using their profits to build spas and hotels anyway.Quote: TIMSPEEDBecause those local casino's offer NOTHING in the way of comps, as well as have NO decent video poker, and NO crap's.
The Bear is retired but I believe his blog The Bear Growls contained some comments about Crime and Reno.
Quote: NicksGamingStuffI watched the cops like show about Reno. Some pretty crazy people and police in Reno. I think it is on Netflix, Reno 911.
none of which was filmed in Reno, nor really ABOUT Reno...was more of just improv comedy...
