Why for did nobody tell me, Hmmmm?
That '30 is gorgeous! 65 grand for the '64? That's just silly. I got my '63 for 12 grand and I think I overpaid and it's every bit as nice as the less desirable '64 that's pictured.Quote: DocThese photos have a lot of flare. Just attribute that to the lighting, the cell phone, or operator incompetence. I took these shots thinking that s2dbaker might be interested, but then I completely forgot that I had them on my phone.

My 1963 Avanti You know it's mine by the license plate :)
My R-1 gets up to 55 on mild cool days in the spring and autumn :)Quote: DocI didn't climb across the ropes to get a look inside the cabins, but my recollection is that the Avantis had speedometers that extended to something like 160 or 180 mph. Is that memory anywhere near correct? What speed were they capable of as new products? (On the appropriate track, of course.)
I'd have to go put on slippers to go look at the speedometer. I'll do that tomorrow.
When I was into cars, I was in a car club with a guy who had a Twin Supercharged one (apparently factory Paxton products?)
Edit: this one, and apparently it's also a 63'

I'm not certain that my speedometer is original. Studebaker did use Stewart-Warner gauges but they usually (and "usually" means not always) stripped off the SW before installing. I've seen other Avantii with speedometers that only go to 140.
I think in the 1960s it was the norm for speedometers in American cars to show to 120, even if the car couldn't reach 90. My '66 VW beetle had a speedometer that went to 90, and it couldn't power itself above about 72.
After it warms up a little, I think I'll take it for a spin around the block.
