I was just listening to your interview with Buddy Frank from Pechanga Casino. He mentioned that some video slots choose a single random number to determine the outcome for the game. I can tell you that is DEFINITELY true for some games. I have done some games that use that exact method. The game will have a weighted table of all possible pays and randomly choose one. It will then look up that outcome in another table and map it to a predefined set of reel outcomes.

This method allows us to give more interesting outcomes at a higher frequency than they would occur randomly.

Most games choose a random number for each reel as opposed to one for the game outcome. If you choose a random number for each reel you then assign or map that into a position or symbol on the reel. If there is a winning pattern on the reels you pay for it.

Some of the games we have done for the casinos actually pick a random number to determine the amount of your win and then show reels that would correspond to the selected win amount.

Both methods are considered fair to the player.
