Casino Fails To Shuffle Cards, Sues Gamblers Who Won $1.5 Million
LOL, I think.
unshuffled cards that were in perfect sequence and
they didn't notice? The players sure noticed.
Quote: ewjones080Why the hell do they even need preshuffled cards? They must think that the lost revenue in 5-10 mins it takes to shuffle the first time is pretty significant. Obviously there's a reason we always check to see if every card is there and unmarked, because this could happen..so to speak.
If they weren't cheap and used Shuffler machines, the chance of something going wrong is reduced considerably...
I would never go to a casino that treated its customers like that.
Heads should roll where it happened - from the dealer up to and including the highest supervisor on duty responsible for that area. How could anyone not see what was happening?
They use pre-shuffled cards because they are also one-use cards. By "one-use" I don't mean inferior quality, or that they are discarded after the single use.Quote: ewjones080Why the hell do they even need preshuffled cards?
It's traditional for high-stakes Baccarat players to not only handle the cards, but after a loss to occasionally tear up a card (or the entire hand) when the hand is over.
That being the case, it's easier to use "certified" pre-shuffled cards.
After the single use, they just send the discards back to the vendor, where they get inspected (often by prison workers, sometimes by those convicted for casino fraud!), then repackaged for reuse.

This isn't news here, it was discussed ad nauseum in this thread.

Thanks, AA88. The article I quoted referred to a game in August, but it is clearly the same April game that is talked about in that thread. Fascinating stuff, innit?

There were two such incidents: one a dealer who due to going on break and mis-communication did not activate an auto shuffler and the other at a casino that was supposed to be using sealed, pre-shuffled decks.
Obviously the players all noticed what was going on right away but tired bored and low paid dealers did not.
Serves the casino right.
We've had two threads on this already but it shows how its not just the dealers who have to be alert.
If the gamblers had figured out the roulette wheel was biased would that also be a crime?

In "Casinology II" they reccomend preshuffled cards. I think the thought is they do get a better initial shuffle in less time, IF the card company isn't just giving them the same pre-shuffle.
