GRUM, the former world leading spam botnet has been severely crippled.
personally, i detest spam (actually i detest all email now that i think about it).
to give you an idea of what this means,
Grum was responsible for 35% of all internet spam last week.
it is an interesting story if you have a few minutes...

worth the quick read. Y! ads have actually decreased also. Of note is Y! policy-change that puts the spam in the spam-box for deletion, rather than auto-delete. Just a wild guess that major mail-servers did the same and tipped-off the spammer(s) by the auto delete.
Its one more reason to go to your major mail-sites and delete from server rather than download to your device, and THEN delete.
Now if we could only OPT-OUT/DELETE Y! Messenger... that a bigtime spam portal.

Some people need to reimagine their thinking.

That might explain why I have gone from around 500 junk emails per day down to just 50 :-)
I wondered why it had reduced so much.

Cool. I actually had noticed a decrease in spam this week, so this explains it.
About a month ago my volume of spam went WAY up for no appreciable reason. Then it just dropped back off to the normal levels (which for me is probably 40-50 spam emails a week). Gmail does a pretty good job of filtering them, but it's aggressive. I don't think it's ever missed an actual spam message, but it often time flags messages from my bank or from one specific friend as spam/phishing.
Anyway, looks like I've only gotten one spam email over the last few days, so huzzah!
