Perhaps, a little ban is in order?

Perhaps, a little ban is in order?
What is it with you people and your bans?
I do agree, there have been quite a few 'gay' issue threads as of late.
I for one, do NOT like or approve of that lifestyle. Its my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Quote: WongBoplease show where the "attack" is
I would think that the options in your poll make the accusation that anyone who doesn't agree with your POV are either stupid or uneducated. I would consider that an attack
Ken
why the thin skin and double standard?
sorry to say it, but many of the opinions expressed in the other threads
were rather lacking in scientific foundation or educated reasoning.
the only people who might feel attacked were the ones making uneducated theories public.
and in doing so, the validity of my question stands.
why would you make uneducated posts, when you could instead choose to educate yourself?
Ken
people who start threads about religion, politics and sexuality know they are trolling for controversy.

Yes, exactly.
Quote: WongBoit is my opinion, we all should just stick to gambling and related topics.

Wait ... So, you yourself think that you are trolling? Hmmm
what is wrong with asking the OPINON of OTHER people what they THINK about those people?
nothing.
there was no attack made.
maybe there are not enough options in the poll to satisfy you,
you can then post your own opinion.
and that opinion will be judged on its merits.

"that opinion will be judged on its merits" >>> Can you expand on that a bit? I dont know if you can have OPINION and JUDGED and/or OPINION and MERITS in the same sentence.
Ken
to what are you referring?
Quote: KeyserWow, If I were to post a thread or comment like Wong Bo's then I'd be banned. Wong Bo clearly gets preferential treatment from this boards owner and administrators because he's gay.
Talk about biting the hand that feeds you !!!
just to be clear, doing so is a violation of the terms of the forum.
whereas, polling opinions on my own opinion is not.
maybe you need to review the terms

Where?
and then we can guage who might know more about this topic.
i have (among others) a Ph.D. in population studies from princeton.
what do you guys have?

Banned. Sentencing to be forthcoming.

the irony is stunning.
While I have no interest in this thread at all, that link provided by Gabes22 was interesting in itself. Perhaps you can clarify the Princeton program for us from first-hand experience. How do you earn a PhD in a field where they only offer ten graduate courses and haven't bothered to list the faculty? Is something missing from that link?
Quote: WongBowhy don't we all just list our degrees ,

fun game!
I have a BA in Political Science and a Masters in Public Policy. Why population studies? Was your research so focused the population studies was the best fit? Otherwise, I'd have thought that anthropology or sociology would get you farther...
Utterly ridiculous!
(on a side note, I would wager (even though I wager no more) that of the 5 votes that option received, at least 4 were by gay men)
it is a valid option.
many homophobes have in fact turned out to be secretly involved in homosexual activity.
http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/study-gay-teens-five-times-more-likely-to-attempt-suicide
BTW, I wouldn't start a poll with any options about gays, and if I did I would not include the above option. Just showing how foolish we can be. And it offends me that I have to write a disclaimer to show that I do not agree or believe that gay teens should kill themselves!!!!
Quote: Gabes22So out of 300 million people in America (or more) who aren't gay, you find 15 who delve into it, yet disagree with it, and you find that a relevant sample size?
I'm confused. Are you saying that there are only 15 who both disagree with it and delve into the subject? If so, that's not a sample, it's the entire subject population...
if i have a doctorate in philosophy and posted a link which explains the program,
i am having a little trouble taking you seriously.
i only posted the link as an example illustrating that homophobia is often a smokescreen.
Quote: Gabes22I am saying he has to find more than a 1:20,000,000 correlation to use it as a point in his argument.
That's not how that works. If 15 of the 300,000,000 are both straight and interested, and they're the only people who meet that qualification, then it's a 1:1 correlation.

Yeah, that's sad. But it also leaves Doc's question and my question unanswered.
Doc's question - how'd you get a PhD in a program that's so academically sparse? It doesn't look like Princeton's Population Studies program has enough meat to support a PhD program. (restated, sorry if I missed the point)
My question - why population studies? Sociology or anthropology or even political science would seem to be closely related and also more easily accepted/understood.
so they will not be getting one.

If you're going to bring up your education, you should be willing to answer questions about it. Just sayin...
Informal Education : had to quit high school to support family Worked grocery store during the day, rack boy at pool hall
evenings, later dealt 5 card stud in back room at pool hall, hustled pool and duckpins, ran bets for bookies,
Vietnam era Vet, then at age 28 went over to the Dark Side.
32 years as technican and shop steward at AT&T.
* say what you will about Catholic Education, but 55 years later I had the highest GED overall score in
Western Colorado.

I think that they are asked out of curiosity. Perhaps the restatement was a bit harsh, but that's only because you blew the questions off earlier and instead focused on more ridiculous material.
So, legitimately:
Doc's question: The link to the population studies department site shows a relatively small number of classes. Is the pop studies PhD track an inter-disciplinary program? Did you study in other departments as well? (this probably inter-relates with my question)
My question: Why pop studies? Was your research very specifically pop-nerdy? I did an MPP instead of an MA in political science because I was most interested in public opinion polling and that's a subject that's more fully addressed in the public policy department than in the political science department at most schools (certainly true at Minnesota, where I studied). Did something similar steer you to pop studies and not anthro or sociology?
As to your manhattan office: NYC scares me. Bring a pic of the degree & let's meet in AC:-P
Quote: Gabes22I apologize WongBo. I didn't know until now what PhD stood for.
There is an old quip about someone who gets a B.S., an M.S., and a PhD.
BS -- We all know what that stands for.
MS -- That seems to be More of the Same.
PhD -- A bit more, Piled higher and Deeper.

A popular joke in medical schools is asking certain teachers "Are you a PhD or a real doctor?"
Quote: NareedA popular joke in medical schools is asking certain teachers "Are you a PhD or a real doctor?"
The truth of the matter is that a person with an earned PhD is far closer to being a "real doctor" than the people who go to medical schools. Do you know the background of the title "Doctor" and how it got applied to academic degrees? And about the shortcut that the medical profession and some others took? Let's just say that neither a modern M.D. degree nor a J.D., or D.D.S, or a bunch of others are classified as "academic doctorates." They fall into a lesser category called "first professional degree".
