Venetian back to "Mandatory" Resort Fees

A few months ago I posted the question "Are Venetian resort fees mandatory?" and at the time, the answer was "no, they can be declined." But I literally just called them and was informed that "optional resort fees" was something they tried for a couple months but have now gone back to mandatory resort fees.

Does anyone know a way around this? I should also mention that I am strictly a poker player, so I'll be getting the poker room rate, but I don't put any money in table games or slots, so I'm not exactly their favorite customer.

The Palazzo features Prestige Rate rooms which gives you the free breakfast and free wifi and other stuff so its a way around the resort fees, but my understanding is that The Venetian has become very stingy now anyway and wants its Resort Fees.
