1.4 million dollar slot win at Green Valley Ranch announced.
Casino stated the winner has chosen to remain anonymous.

Seems there was no problem at all in her avoiding photographs or other publicity.

I don't blame the winner. I think a lot of players opt for this, even at small four or five figure wins. That is why "lucky winner" posters have lots of anonymous silhouettes. Never understood why the lottery in most states requires disclosure for big jackpots.

It's for advertising purposes. Thats more valuable to the lotteries then your privacy.

Oh I don't either. Even if the casino has the legal right to insist on publicity photos and some giant check, they are not going to push the issue. After all, they want a good portion of that 1.4 million to come back to them in the future.

Its just that there has been some discussion on this issue and I wanted to post this incident as a definitive answer.

They claim it is for transparency purposes because letting the public know lets the public judge the integrity of the system. It would be much easier to cheat the system if you can stay anonymous.

I would think casinos could get more mileage out of that sort of publicity than state lotteries.

Always thought the advertisement photo of "Agnes won $1200 at VEGAS CASINO" is lulsworthy, especially with Agnes's mug on the pic

Winners can be sloshed to the gills and giddy with excitement at the time so perhaps decision making skills are impaired but its "free" advertising to the casino.

That is a good argument by the state.

BTW, if you ever hit a modest jackpot and want to make the winner's wall, I've found all you have to do is ask. They are usually happy to comply and will give you a copy of the picture.
