The name Terribles has been resurrected in Jean, Nevada as the former Gold Strike is renamed Teribbles by its Herbst family owners.
Jean, Nevada just across the road from largest Chevron station in the world

That ridiculously huge travel plaza also features the only White Castle Drive thru west of the Pecos.

So, is there something new here? I think the name was changed to Terrible's Roadhouse quite some time ago. The Museum of Gaming History web site has an image of a slot ticket (value $0.01) saying Terrible's Roadhouse Jean, NV and dated 06/25/2016; i.e., more than two years ago. They also have images of a players' club card and a room key, both with the name spelled "Terrible's Road House".

The reason I am interested in any news here, of course, is that I would like to add a souvenir chip from this Terrible's Roadhouse (or Road House) to my collection, if such a thing exists. The last I heard was that their tables were still using the old Gold Strike chips. I expect to be in Las Vegas in December, and if there is a chance to pick up such a chip then, I would certainly take the drive down to Jean.

Does anyone have any info on new chips there?

New chips are on order right now. Although the casino was referred to as Terrible's Roadhouse, the Roadhouse is being removed and it will become Terrible's Hotel and Casino. I will let you know when the new chips are available. I believe the travel center across the road is now referred to as Terrible's Roadhouse.

And you are only a few miles away from one of the Greatest bars in the world, The Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings. Very good burgers and other menu items in a unique environment. The Schekles family has done an incredible job with this place.

The Gold Strike? Not so much, maybe they will update it. Always dead when I stopped in.

The casino is listed as in Jean. The White Castle is listed as being in Sloan, and the Goodsprings Town Hall is there, all within spitting distance.

I drove past there this past Friday. It didn’t look open (yet?) - no cars.

Later that day, as well as Sunday, I made a restroom stop at Terribles Roadhouse in Searchlight. It’s just a slot room - maybe 100 slots. There were signs stating that the restaurant will reopen as a Denny’s in mid October. Both days there was staff in the Denny’s, but still not open yet.

I saw the Gold Strike sign there was blank as I drove by last week.
Terrible's Road House (2 words on the player's card)
has been doing well in Pahrump, NV for years now. It is not even on Hwy 160.

Moonshiners food is not bad either as is their Thanksgiving Day buffet.

wish them all the best out in Jean, hope the truckers keep them happy too.
(really thought they would have gone under like Nevada Landing H&C did)

The last I heard they were aiming to open the Denny's today or tomorrow.

Thanks a bunch!

If you are familiar with how long such things take, would you guess that the chips that are on order now would be in play by early December? My wife and I plan to fly into Las Vegas on the late afternoon of 12/5 and fly home on the afternoon of 12/10. If new chips were in play (and I knew about it), I could definitely make time to drive down to Jean while we are in the state.

Thanks to you also, FleaStiff. I didn't mean for my earlier post to come across in a negative manner. I just wondered whether you were posting two-year-old info and didn't realize it and that there was nothing new to be of interest for me here. Seems as if there is, and I can only hope to take advantage of it before the year is out!

Yeah, but that means no competition for selfirs with the Batmobile from the television show, and the Delorean from “Back To The Future”.

Cool car collection but no craps table.

In days of old terms like 'quickie divorce'
meant Reno, not Vegas. And 'gambling' meant craps since blackjack and slots were for wives and
girlfriends.
Those days are long gone.
The statues that should be prominent in Vegas should be Benny Binion and of course Thorpe!!
Casino employees may have shed tears when craps tables were ripped out to make room for
a larger blackjack pit but casino owners laughed all the way to the bank.

Cities change, casinos change, customers change...
Whether you think of the 'real' Terribles or the 'fake' Terribles,,, its never going to be
a place for caviar.

A small casino with a somewhat transient customer base might not
be able to support a craps table much less a craps crew but it still serves a sector of the public.
And rembember Mickey Spillaine, in addition for his famous 'Hemingway who?' crack he was
also famous for saying America always sold more peanuts than caviar.

Thanks, DRich.

A drive down to Jean to get a Terrible's chip is on my list of things to do when we are out that way two weeks from now. I suppose I should post something in the "Post your Vegas visit schedule" thread, but I can't even find the thread.

Make sure you stop at the World's Largest Chevron and only White Castle drive through west of the Mississippi., right across the street from the casino.

Is there a bridge over the I15 in Jean? If you are northbound, can you get to the White Castle without going past it some distance to make a U-turn?

Yes. Plenty of signs to direct you to it, with very easy on/off capacity. When I was there several weeks ago, the WC was only open 11-7, as they hadn't finished staffing and training. The whole truck plaza its in is pretty kool, tanks of candy the size of water towers, biggest beef jerky assortment I've come across. Gas is ridiculously expensive. 90 pumps to choose from.

When I first read this, my interpretation of it was likely a bit in the wrong direction.

It's by far the biggest truck plaza I've been in in years. Its way to big for what they need. Plenty of room to expand the few slots they now have.
