What can one say about the Imperial Palace?
Sure, it's the cheapest hotel on the strip, and the location is very good if you like the strip.
Just don't opt for the Capri rooms, the make the pavilion rooms at the El Cortez look like a four star hotel.
But for the money it's a decent place to crash and take a shower for the budget minded tourist.
The new policy is no upgrades, as I was told, so the $20 dollar trick might not work, and you'll be stuck in whatever level of room you book. The classic rooms aren't too bad, the deluxe rooms are better but cost a few bucks more, but might be worth it if you want a better room.
A "Love Tub" room is just that, a large tub with no jacuzzi jets in it, so if you like to soak they're o k , but if you want a jacuzzi in your room try somewhere else.
The place is a maze, and by the time you figure it how to navigate it it's time to leave!
The elevators are notoriously slow, but there's a bank of other elevators just behind the main ones and they're less known. Just go down the hall to the left about 20 feet and you'll see them on the right. You can also take the ones in the back if you can figure out how to get to the casino from where they let you off.
They will give you a map of the place at check in, but it's worthless to help you navigate if you self park, which is a story in it's self.
Enter and exit from the back (Koval) if you're driving a car.

Such hints and tips from actual guests at the hotel are so much more useful than these guidebooks that give only glowing reviews.
I recall going to the Imperial Palace decades ago and I didn't even realize it wasn't all that much of a place. Didn't even know the land out front was the neighboring casino's parking lot. I guess the group of guys I'd go to Vegas with were not quite so discerning either... they loved the Imperial Palace. They even liked the buffet there and at Circus Circus! Strange.
I guess I was that stupid back then too!!

Things were much different back then. The IP did have it's glory days, and the Circus Circus used to be one of my favorite places to gamble, especially their dollar slot carousel, which used to hit like crazy. I won many times there.
How things have changed!
Now the IP is a dated worn out property with discount rooms and crappy gambling, and the second worst buffet in Las Vegas! My kind of Place! Center strip rooms for $25 a night during the week!
Used to be you could book a classic room (better than a Capri room, but 2nd to lowest level room) and get bumped up just for the asking, but no more.
The credit for the worst buffet has to go to Fitzgerald's downtown.

Hi all,
I stayed at the Imperial Palace from October 9-13, 2009. I just wanted to report that I utilized the $20 tip trick to my advantage, and it worked wonderfully. We were upgraded from one of the capri rooms to a newly renovated tower room, and were asked (we were three men) if we wanted the further upgraded luv tub room at no additional charge, which we declined. I suspect that the check-in clerk we had was nicer than typical, and even before the tip, she seemed as if she wanted us to be happy with our stay.
As far as the casino, it shocked me the number of players who were in there on a weekday night, throwing down at the $10/min BJ tables at 6:5, when Bellagio across the street had open tables at $10/3:2, as did the Wynn.

I stayed at Imperial Palace once, back in 1997. It was okay, and I would go again considering how cheap it is and how good a location it is. No, the rooms aren't that great, but when I go to Vegas to the room is just to sleep in, so I don't really care if it's that good or not, and you can't beat the Imperial Palace's location for the price. Didn't really gamble there, except for playing what they called "Mini Craps" back then. It was a sit down craps table with either $3 or $5 minimums. Don't know if they still have it or not.

I don't know if everyone has this same experience, but the one time I stayed at IP, it was totally full of just smokin' hot girls. I guess that has to do with its cheap rate: they all seemed college age or so. That's my best guess anyway.
That said, it's not like they hung out at IP. They just slept and stored their clothes there. I guess it is pretty convenient to Pure.
And it was just the one time.

never stayed at the IP but always stop by to see the dealertainers. some of them are pretty good! i don't play the table games there but it seems like when the dealertainers are dealing they all seem more up beat compared to other dealers, maybe carrying on with their character. one guy, (who isn't there anymore), was very good. he used to sing this song about riding his bicycle, (sorry i don't know the name of the song), but he was so good i used to go just to see him. i called him the 'bicycle boy' and i thought he could easily be on a theater stage.
and yes i think boob jobs must come with being a cocktail waitresses there.
