Quote: JimMorrisonThe Palms has some of the best nightlife in Las Vegas. Rain nightclub continues to book the hottest DJ's such as Armin Van Buren, the late DJ AM, Paul Oakenfold, etc.
I'll grant you Armin, but Oakenfold's the better part of a decade past his prime now. :P
Quote: lucky13A word to the wise. If you want to gain admittance to the Playboy Club, don't wear shorts. While playing at the Palms recently, my party was offered complimentary passes to the club, which we thought was cool. Unfortunately, we had been there since the afternoon, and we were all in shorts/t-shirts, and because we weren't staying there, we weren't able to change up conveniently. I'd be interested in hearing if it would have been worth cleaning up for. Has any one gone?
I'm there 3-4 times a week and feel it's worth it. All Vegas clubs enforce dress codes. Shorts or tennis shoes aren't tolerated anywhere. Collared shirts or stylish t-shirt is also required.

I'm not a fan but I'd have to argue with you on this since Rain is at capacity with huge lines everytime Oakenfold is there so a lot of people must think he's hot still.

Then perhaps you can answer this question: Do the gaming tables in the Playboy Club use the same chips that are used at the Palms' tables downstairs? It just occurred to me that they might have some special (rabbit?) logo or the name of the club to promote the location, meaning I might be missing a souvenir chip from my collection.
To me the only thing worthwhile in the Playboy Club is its 5-level vp machines. I enjoy the Ghost Bar as often as I can get up there, the Mint Lounge has some good hi-limit vp machines at the bar and the gals pour anything you ask for as a comp, upstairs is a more relaxing high limit room, and their hi-limit slot room on the main floor has some good $1 thru $25 vp machines. Also, I find their comps very liberal, and even when you don't walk in the place for 6 months the offers keep coming.
Now the bad parts: First, their gourmet restaurant Nine is one of the most uncomfortable places I've ever dined in. It's obnoxiously loud, the service has never been good, and you can't even have a conversation at your own table because of all the noise and scampering around by the energetic watiers. The food stunk both times too. None of their other restaurants has impressed me. I'm sure their night clubs are high-end but I'm too old to mess with them, and today DJ's seem as much a part of yesterday as cupcakes do.
During the week the casino has the usual collection of not-so-well-to-do locals--most of whom shouldn't even be gambling. On weekends, here come the punks and thugs from LA, and they take over the place. If you like to look at hot young women that's one thing, but when you constantly have to walk behind a collection of clowns wearing their baseball caps sideways and their jeans halfway down the crack of their ass, along with with gold chains and the obligatory diamond earrings, it's time to leave the freakshow.
Bottom line: If I hadn't had good luck playing there and if the comps were so easy, I wouldn't bother with the joint.
