Its so old, cashier cage was no cage at all, just a short counter with really no security except a camera
I joked with the cashier how easy it would be to rob
She smiled and pointed to the occupied police car across the street. She said it sits there 24/7 and there is just 1 road off the mountain

Reminds me the of the Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron, and Lieutenant Dan movie.
Quote: JohnnyQI've been to Cripple Creek a couple of times quite a number of years ago. If I recall correctly, BACK THEN, the Blackjack was limited to $ 5 per hand. But like I say, it was a number of years ago, so don't quote me on that. #Fakenews
Is the crippled creek the one where there are like donkeys and mules roaming around nearby? That's the one I imagined when terapined said he visited one in Colorado (if that's the one I'm thinking of). It's the first one on the way into "town". IIRC, it was $5 min and $100 max or maybe $200 max (although doesn't Colorado have a $100 max bet? Or maybe that's Minnesota?).
Edit: Seems like I've been to several casinos where there is no "cage" at the cashier. It's all open-like.

There used to be $5 max bets in Colorado but it changed to $100 in 2009.

It was the Golden Gulch Casino in Black Hawk. Its small, real small. New player sign up was 10 bucks in free play. I signed up and was amazed they gave me a 10 dollar bill. Could have walked out up 10 dollars. Thought about it but naw, i gave the 10 back by playing it out on some machine.
No one wants gunplay in the casino. that is why security procedures are so strict.
Quote: FleaStiffThe lowered security wired-cage area is reassuring. The one road may be an effective deterrent but its no substitute for an alert security staff. I've seen cage areas with absurdly low chip levels but its a comfort to have things handled well.

That cashiers counter at the Golden Gulch was not buried in the back of the casino but instead right by the glass doors exit.
That's why the cashier could easily point out the police car
I really did not notice chips but saw lots cash stacks at the back of the room in plain view.
I was amazed, just a short counter, lots of cash visible and right by the door.

So, his getaway plan was to go to MGM? Danny Ocean, he ain't! I wonder if he was apprehended while gambling the money he just stole?

A few years ago two guys robbed a rack at a blackjack table at Mohegan CT and ran out the nearby exit making their escape. The casino ran back the surveillance cameras and saw that when they entered the casino, the first thing they did was swipe their player's cards at the entrance kiosk. The police ended up at their house before they did.,
Many years ago my sister was a bank teller who was robbed. During the robbery one of the other employees sighted the getaway car and noted the registration. Turned out the robbers needed the cash to buy a brand new Cadillac. How do we know this? Because the getaway car and a shiny new Sedan deVille were in the robber's driveway when the cops arrived about an hour later.
George Clooney is playing none of these losers in the movie.
Quote: billryanIf there is only one mountain road, why risk a shootout in the casino? Give the robbers the money and set up a road block where there isn't a lot of civilians.

When they get out of prison they have $10 in free play available to them.

Imagine if they were multi-carders who did the robbery and some other dudes we're arrested

Yes. The only reason why he got caught was because he got stupid and desperate trying to get rid of chips that were frozen from the casino. Chips $5000 or less he could have cashed without any question assuming he was a known player which he was.

Pretty sure they would coordinate the info with the police and cross check the surveillance footage with DMV photo ID or criminal records(if applicable) before pursuing an arrest. At worst, they would be questioned if they know the suspects and could simply claim their player card was misplaced.

I like how they say in some of these robbery stories, the Casino won't confirm or deny the use of magnetic tracking devices in the chips.

Its common knowledge that they are tracked with a small chip, at least the larger denominations, but only in the casino. Doesn't work outside of the casino.

Exactly, why feign ignorance of a known fact? Almost as if admitting the truth would get them in trouble somehow?
