I was hoping that someone could give me an up to date review of the D. The posts here about them and the on the travel site reviews are typical -"the place is horrible" and "I loved it."
They have a player card/club but it seems to have one tier and I thought that it used to be two.
They have a substandard website in my opinion. If there's a link for their hosts (if they have any) then I can't find it. There's also a room that they won't show on the website. What's the deal with that?
Are the comps good and what will they give up front for a high four or low five digit line of credit?
I personally like the GN wth the pool and the resteraunts, but you don't need it for a guys only trip.
So, how about a few recent reviews and opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

We've seen the fountains, the pirate shows and white tigers, and just about all the other big stuff and he wants some old time Vegas.

I know too many "D" sycophants who worship Derek Stevens and that, in and of itself, has put me off of the "D"

If you go to the D, make sure to tell the midget british accent casino manager that looks like a rat as well as the dyke woman in HL with half her head shaved off that theyre idiots and theyll never get rid of me.
To answer your question. Golden nugget is probably your best bet downtown and the Fremont St experience as well as the zip lining thing. Outside of casinos go check out the Mob Museum.
Spoiler alert: Mob still runs this townx except now they're in corporate now and have gaming in their pocket.

Hate speech. Since this is a new rule and first hate speech violation, I won't Martingale the sentence. Three-day suspension. Please note this does not reset the Martingale count either. You are due for two months the next time.
Until Circa opens, I would think high 4 / low 5 figure players would have two choices: the GN and the California (as it was recently remodeled). If you want the old tyme Vegas experience, consider the El Cortez or Golden Gate.
Quote: AyecarumbaCount me in the camp of “Too Loud”. There is even a performance stage on Fremont just outside their doors.

I'd put in an old-time vote for 4 Queens. I think they do a good job.
The ONLY issue I have with the D Is the loud music. The rest is pretty great. Clean rooms, very friendly service, good food on site (plus McD) , decent games, including a few that only they offer. Nice comps, easy to get free rooms, very convenient, good room security.
Alas, being a married man, such entertainments are off the table for me ... way off.
If you can put up with that and the sound, 10x odds is nice and drink service was adequate. The clientele is kinda trashy.
Quote: FCBLComishEveryone is talking about the D and nobody mentioned the dancing dealers?
Not my cup of tea...but yeah, they're a feature, not a flaw.
Quote: FCBLComishEveryone is talking about the D and nobody mentioned the dancing dealers?
I dunno, Mission146's mostly positive review of The D here at WoV says...
Quote:The Dancing Dealers (Party Pit) come out in the late-afternoon hours to the early a.m. hours, except Big Six almost always seems to have one. The Dancing Dealers really need to take some tips from those at the Golden Gate sister property, the Golden Gate dancing dealers are always moving, or at least smiling if standing still, looking like they are having a good time.
The Dancing Dealers at the D, on the other hand, are only about 50% dancing or smiling. If nobody is playing at their table, many of them stand motionless or only with a small amount of side-to-side movement with expressions ranging from slight boredom to abject misery...Regular dealers look more into it at other casinos than some of the so-called, "Party," dealers.
Admittedly it could have been an off night and the review is now over five years old but...
Quote: PokerGrinderIgnore my post, I just realized that I’m talking about the downtown grand. Oops lol
I stayed at the Downtown Grand, but it was something like 2014 - hardly "recent." The last time I was there was for lunch at Freedom Beat.
The rooms were OK, but it does have the drawback of having to walk down that pretty much empty walkway (one side is the wall of the Fremont; the other has, IIRC, a gift shop, a Hawaiian-run beef jerky store, and a pawn shop) between Fremont Street and Ogden. As I recall, anything close to a good game was tightened up over the past few years. As others have mentioned, if you want to stay downtown, Golden Nugget is the choice.
Quote: KeyserThe dancing dealers at The D doesn't help the casino, it just makes it feel like a casino in a third world country. The upstairs part of The D is more tolerable. The Golden Gate is much worse.
Working for Derek for any length of time is likely to crush one’s soul, crush hope or destroy sense of ethics, one of the three is inevitable. Plus, he treats objects like women and stuff.
I can't put my finger on just one thing, but I'm just not a fan of the GN casino over all. However, The shark pool is cool.
When the DTG first opened, I stayed there multiple times with comped rooms. I thought the rooms were better than most places I stayed at downtown.

Just don't let anyone sell you a deal on a room on the fourth floor...
And I assume the Mob Bar was still open when you were there? DTG has gone through quite a few changes since it opened.
Not even sure what Mob Bar you are referring to.Quote: ThatDonGuyJust don't let anyone sell you a deal on a room on the fourth floor...

Its been a while since I have been in the DTG as well.
Quote: PokerGrinderThe beef jerky shop actually has excellent jerky lol. Worth a visit!
Hmmm. I'm skeptical and a beef jerky snob. Can you recommend any particular brand?

I'm afraid to ask but, what's on the 4th floor?

Why? What kind of dirt you got on him?
Quote: aceofspadesI'm afraid to ask but, what's on the 4th floor?
Apparently, it doesn't have one; at least, the elevators don't stop there. I am guessing it is for the same reason most hotels don't have 13th floors - in China, 4 is unlucky, as it sounds too much like the word for "death."
Even with decent elevation over the canopy, a room "with a view of The Fremont Street Experience" is NOT generally desirable. Instead, a room on one of the other sides with a nice view of the fabulous high-rise jail or the beautiful Greyhound bus depot is preferable.
Quote: WizardHmmm. I'm skeptical and a beef jerky snob. Can you recommend any particular brand?
Old Trapper brand is quite popular. It depends on if you like the jerky soft or not. That store has a bunch of different stuff, including made in the USA and imports. Lots of dried fruits, fish and shellfish. They also have a bunch of candy and Li Hing Mui powder available on just about everything.
Quote: WizardHmmm. I'm skeptical and a beef jerky snob. Can you recommend any particular brand?
I know people in Canada who make their own jerky so no brand. I like the stuff my local grocery store makes themselves.

So do they have the dried salted prunes on the pit and stuff like that? I'll have to get there.
How did Boz get his Martingale count reset multiple times? He even got reverse Martingaled five times. Pretty good deal for the righties.Quote: WizardPlease note this does not reset the Martingale count either. You are due for two months the next time.

We reset the Martingale after a long show of good behavior. Sometimes a suspension for something borderline or based on a new rule will not be subject to the Martingale, like ZenKing's latest.

Mods: can we move (or delete) this discussion from The D thread? Thanks. And thanks for all your efforts despite the occasional s#!+storm that gets blown in your direction!
The current D offer is for four nights, $60 slot play, $50 match play, and $50 food credit.
The casino is louder than I would like but we usually enjoy our visits on each trip. We have been staying on the strip, but the consensus of opinions I have read (not including TripAdvisor) make it an option if it is not pool season.
This will be my first downtown stay. If it were just me, I'd pick the oldest joint, but for the comfort of the Mrs., I'm thinking the Golden Nugget might be a good compromise between history and comfort.
I was also thinking of the D, but got turned off by the noise factor.
TigerWu, what you saw was Sigma Derby: the coin-operated casino game with a rabid following!
Yes. Tons. Check out their website beefjerkystore dot com. They can ship it to you.Quote: Ayecarumba

There's also another place in the Plaza across from the Bingo hall that's got many of the same things, but also has these bagel chips in different flavors, as well as shortbread cookies that are pretty good.
McDonald's at the D is closing Aug 25
The D wants them gone
Place is kind of a downtown institution

How cheap is the hot dog place at The D?
I think you can get pizza by the slice at Pizza Rock, although technically that's a block or two from Fremont.
