The new high limit room at the D has 4% commission baccarat. That lowers the house edge on the Banker bet from 1.06% to 0.60%.

The tie still pays 8 to 1 and the blackjack rules in the high limit room are nothing special (H17 and no surrender). Nevertheless, the I applaud the 4% commission baccarat. The last time Vegas has seen that was at the Horseshoe; I think back in the eighties.

Adding more Baccarat tables to Downtown.
Is it a $100 min table or maybe $25?
Any side bets to go with the table??
That gives this game a no-brainer on what bet to make.

El Cortez has the $5 min table and the Golden Nugget has 2 $10 min tables (last time I was there)
Binion's removed their $5 min Bac table a few years ago.

I think it was a $25 minimum. Remember where you are. They have the Dragon bonus, which I coincidentally did the original math on for Shufflemaster. In my opinion, side bets in high-limits rooms is rather tacky.

I noticed this back when they had it on the main floor. Of course I had to play a little. I did some sort of progression on banker, and caught a few nice streaks. They did something weird with the commissions; I think they had the little lammers to keep track of them and then "discounted" it to 4% at the end.

It boggles the mind the Ditz would have a high-limit room.

Do they turn down the "music" to non-permanent hearing damage levels there? Upstairs at the slot museum (and I say that affectionately), there's no loud music at all.

They have one at the Golden Gate now too. I was there yesterday about 3:00 PM, and the music level wasn't too bad. They crank it up at night. In both the D and GG the high limits are just elevated areas off the main casino floor.

About slot museums, did you know there is an "old slot" area at the north side of the El Cortez, that is all coin out.

The D is definitely making some strides. I was assigned a host, Eddie when I was there two days ago or so. He actually listened to my complaints about the chips they use being so slippery that the dealers are constantly having to re-stack them as being my primary complaint with their (and the GG) casinos. Eddie gave me a $30 comp'd meal at the cafe upstairs and I had the "High Roller" which was two filet mignon with scrambled eggs.

They gave me a lot of personal attention. I usually don't get that much attention with my low-roller bets, but I was impressed that they took such good care of me on a weekend.

The D is an awful place. The staff is rude, and the valet is stunningly understaffed and inefficient. The dancers in their uniforms look silly and absurd, and the music is so loud that people can only stand to be in there for five or 10 minutes top before they leave for the Golden Nugget. Why they attempt to have a high limit room is beyond me. The casino belongs in the Philippines, not in downtown LV.

On the bright side, the Golden Nugget isn't too far to walk from The D.

Do they actually have any English speaking hosts?

I forget at what time you and I visited a former dealer at the Ditz, but it was day time and the "music" was loud enough to make suicide a valid consideration.

I dind't know that. It might even be worth it to risk crossing the street ;) I don't suppose there's any extraordinary VP, like the Full Pay Deuces Wild at the Ditz, because it woudl have been discussed here. But I do like museums.

They have the above 25¢ game at a return of 99.62%. I just took this picture yesterday. Rudeboioi told me months ago about a very liberal deuces game there, but I don't know if this is what he was referring to.

After 1,000 Banker bets: (including ties)
5% vig = ~64% chance of being in the red
4% vig = ~58% chance of being in the red.

Not a significant difference given that a thousand bets takes very little time. If the game isn't worthwhile at 5%, there is no reason to simply assume (by the math) that it is worthwhile at 4%.

I'll take your word as to the return. This is lower than the one at the Ditz, but the $0.25 denomination sounds good. I'll give it a try next May/June.

I looked at VPfree for ElCo. There seems to be even better options, including a few over 100% return DB and DW machines, coin-out. What stuck with me is one of these is located "outside the high limit room." I'd no idea ElCo had a high limit room. Would that be like $25 minimum tables? ;)

it was el cortez i was talking about. downtown deuces. 4700 for a royal. 13 for a straight flush. the rest is the same. i havent been to the el cortez in a while though so i dont know if they still have it there. i know the las vegas club used to have the same game but had removed it.

the D might still have the 5c denomination 101.6% payback loose deuces wild game upstairs. 1-2-2-3-4-10-17-25-500-800. i think last time i was there and saw it was back in december.

The D has 99.73% "Not-so-ugly" Deuces Wild. You can redeem a coupon from the LVA book for multiple points up to a certain amount which makes the game positive. I've done it a couple times. The machines are coin-droppers but you can ask for a hand-pay (definitely worthwhile if you are playing $0.50). El Cortez does have a high-limit area right behind the cage. I believe it is all $1 coin-droppers. They have a nice 10/7 DB machine in the room the Wizard talks about that gives 0.25% in cashback for a total return of 100.42% (yay!), and more on point multiplier days. They also have a terribly addictive 9/6 Jacks Multistrike machine. I played it for about eight hours and was stuck about $1,200 before I hit a royal on the 2nd line for $2,000 (full payout this time). They gave me an extra $50 in freeplay, a box of chocolates, a Klondike bar, and a coupon for a free massage. I also treated laywer Bob Nersesian and his wife/partner Thea to dinner there and a $50 comp fed everybody. The El Cortez rules!

That's what "midi" bacc is--you can squeeze the cards in midi-baccarat games, just like on the big table.

When I was in New Orleans, the Treasure Chest called their game "midi baccarat" but dealer handled all the cards. Plenty of casinos use midi-baccarat sized tables but don't allow the player to touch the cards (Luxor (main floor), NYNY (main floor), Bally's AC, Caesars AC, Hollywood Casino Charles Town are just a few that fall into this category). Considering the Wizard said the high limit blackjack at The D was H17, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't allow players to handle that cards, that's all. I figured it was worth an ask.

When I was there it was $25 minimum table and it was a mini Bacc table if you bet $25 to $99 and a squeeze game if you bed $100+. I thought it was lousy to advertise the game as midi and $25 and then have this policy.

That sounds kind of bizarre (I assume you're talking about The D). For example, if a $100+ player started the game as a squeeze game and left mid-shoe, you'd have to finish out the shoe as a squeeze game regardless of how the next player bet. Is baccarat like blackjack, where they empty out the shoe and reshuffle after a certain period of inactivity?

Then again, I can't think of one casino in LV that has squeeze games under $50 minimum.

On the east coast, Harrah's AC and Parx Philly had $25 squeeze games (I think I saw a $40 min game at Borgata once), but to be the one who got the cards, you were certainly betting far more than that.

It depends, but at the Venetian/Palazzo they regularly do so (which kind of annoys me since I hate brand new shoes).

The Palms, Hard Rock Hotel, Palace Station, Gold Coast, Orleans, The Rio...they all have $25 squeeze games. If I can think of more, I will update. (Off the top of my head, I can't think of any $25 squeeze games on the Strip though)

In actuality, "Midi" usually means a shrunken table and therefore a smaller crew but there is still the pretense of Big-Table Baccarat and the players do get to actually touch the cards. Its simply a smaller table with fewer players.

It is only Mini-Bacc wherein the dealer is the only person to touch the cards and the rate of play is so very high that the very few players at the Mini table are getting reamed and are not touching cards or engaging in any time-delaying hijinx.

I actually had a chance to play baccarat at the D not too long ago. As others posted before, it was $25 min for a non-squeeze game and $100 for a squeeze game (they have both a midi-style discard bin and a mini-style discard rack so they can play it either way). When I was there, the "flapper" dancing dealers were dealing all the tables in the high-limit nook, including baccarat. I will give them credit - they really got into the game and made it a lot more animated and fun than the average baccarat dealer who just pushes the cards. They also didn't deal the game at breakneck pace, which was nice.

There were two "flapper" dealers in rotation at the table, and one was definitely more experienced at dealing baccarat than the other. Thankfully, they use an i-shoe which flashes a light to indicate if extra cards need to be drawn. Granted, you can play non-squeeze for less elsewhere, but the D really makes it a nice experience and lets the average player experience a little piece of the high-limit room luxury.

Hello good people, is The D still doing 4% commission?

Edit: I noticed in Mission's report last month he said it's 4%. So there's the answer.
Its - Possessive; It's - "It is" / "It has"; There - Location; Their - Possessive; They're - "They are"

Did they expect it to? Players who come in for Terpsichorean Dealers With Tits don't care 'bout no four percent commission rate. They are either trying to get bargain hunters or Tit Starers ... why would they want both?

I agree, there is no way I can play on the main casino floor because of the noise. I will still play upstairs but even that is sometimes louder than it should be.
