I took a friend to Ellis last week who loves Roulette to play while I enjoyed cheap semi-quality IPA's. Anyways he plays large for that place and was flagged for betting more than $10 on a number quickly so his wife bought in and they were playing $20 on a few numbers. Long story short they hit a few and had not only the PB on them but 4 others in management (who knew they had so many?) come over to the table watching. The blond Spanish dealer was great and was tipped good and loved it but they made it very uncomfortable for all 4 of us. My wife and I were not playing just drinking and having a good time after coming from Stage Door. Sure cheating may happen at Roulette but if they had any skill they could see quickly we were 4 drunk people having a good time. Anyways they bought in for $600 total and after the inevitable losses ended up at around a $1000 combined. The old PB approved the win but then the cage, literally a back turn away could not payout without a phone call. Almost funny.

I understand they don't get big (?) players everyday but I don't get the concern over the damage a Roulette player could do unless you have concerns with your dealers. Being open to always learning, what else am I missing?

That's what sweat shops do -- they sweat the money. Quite unfortunate.

It doesn't sound like they were sweating you. In that scenario I actually welcome the pit boss to watch as he is double counting the money for the dealer.

Usually when a big roller (u say your action there was big for this casino) is playing they want to make sure the dealer is not making mistakes in payouts in either direction. They also want to remember your face so they can comp you and as you pointed out, let the cage know that you were indeed playing.

Some places really can't easily let go of the cash.

A few years ago, I took about $330 off the craps table at Joker's Wild, and the cage girl had to call the pit.

Yeah it's all too common at local low roller type joints. I won about $200 after a buy in of $300 on a $5 BJ table at a casino in Iowa a couple of years ago. The purple chip they gave me was triple checked in the cage, including at least one phone call before they forked over the cash. It almost took me longer to cash out than it did to win the money.

I Agree with all that, and that's a PB's job but when the 4 suits came out of nowhere it was interesting and they made it clear they didn't want the play. Granted I was not 100% sober, but their presence was more than making sure Stevo got comped for his play.

And I'm certain 4 free future BBQ dinners were not in our cards, or roulette balls.

Yeah, some of these low roller joints are goofy with how hard it is for them to give up a little money. $300-$400 chip payouts require a verification call to the pit. With machine play (TITO) I have seen places that when you attempt to cash the ticket at the kiosk for amounts of as little as $200 (far below the $1200 threshold) they refer you to the cage.

4 suits concerned about $10 wagers and $350 payouts is a new one though. Hard to explain. Maybe they had a recent incident with low limit past-posting???

Without a doubt they were watching
the dealer and not the players. They
were seeing if the dealer was making
mistakes or was in cahoots with a
player. They believe roulette is not
beatable, but they hate lucky players.
First they eliminate the dealer from
any collusion, then they hate on the
player.

Never been to Ellis Island, is this place renowned for sweating players that win?
