Considering spending a few weeknights at the ElCo in March. Last time I was in Vegas (~4 years ago) the couple blocks from the Experience to the ElCo was pretty scary in the wee hours.
Question: with all the gentrification of the area I have heard about, it is safe to walk from the Experience area to the ElCo around 3-4 am?

The last time I was in Vegas 09'. If you stayed on Fremont you were fine. There is a entrance close to the cafe/keno that is right on Fremont. The real Q: Did you grow up in a small town or big city? If small town the reputation might be scary, but if big city your fine.

I go to Vegas every month and I always visit the El C during my trip. I've made that walk many, many times, at all hours, with $2-5k in my pockets. You have no reason to be concerned.
If some drunk bum asks if I have any spare change, I just reply "Yep. I sure do" and keep walking. They are harmless.

The El Co is one thing, but back in the day, a 4AM jaunt down to The Western gave one pause.
Ah, the Western ... what a dump.

I have a four-night comp to the ElCo that I think is good in March. PM me if you want to use it. Includes some food, too. Good in the Cabana Suites as well.

The people alone you would see and meet in there were priceless. I once observed a guy dressed in the most sterotypical pimp suit you would ever see in a 70's movie just sitting at a machine watching and smiling. For some odd reason, I miss the place.

There are too many side streets near both Downtown and the Strip that are almost or compeltely devoid of foot traffic, both in the daytime and night time. Even the crossing bewteen the back of Binions and the front of the Cal are a bit scary at night (yes, I know you can cross from the back of the LVC as well). I wouldn't mind some bycicle cops or private security stationed there, and on the crossing to ElCo as well.
