Quote: NicksGamingStuffI heard that you have to get 3,000 points in a casino day, which varies where you are. Slots give you 1 point per $5 and video poker is 1 point per $10. I asked about this in Reno (back in April of this year) and they confirmed the 3,000 points. Always ask at the players club to make sure they are doing it. If I were to go about it I would go via video poker. I think Harrah's has lots of 8/5 jacks or better (97% return) so ideally your diamond status will cost $900 (30,000*.03) which in my opinion is way to steep for the benefits you receive, especially since the tier status is only good until the end of the year. The Wizard said in another post they took away his diamond card after his status expired. If I were to get it I would go at the beginning of the year so I could enjoy the benefits for a longer period of time.
Is the expiration something different because of DIAD? (I don't think so, because I think I accidentally got DIAD once) When you achieve Diamond, it's good through the following year plus the next March. For example, if you made Diamond tomorrow, you'd be a Diamond until March of 2012. It almost has to be. They wouldn't expect people who've maintained Diamond to automatically lose it at the beginning of a year, and many people probably take close to a year to get it. So they credit you through the NEXT year. Then they decided to give you three more months of grace period. Still probably not worth $900, though I'm planning a road trip across the country, and thanks to my Diamond status, I'm going to be able to get: 1 night Southern Indiana, 1 night KCMO, 5 nights Vegas, 2 nights Phoenix, 1 night Tunica, 1 night Cherokee...all free.
Does the status really expire 12/31 of the year it was earned? That doesn't seem reasonable. If that's the case, then the first week of each January there would only be gold cards in use. I suspect that the status is valid through the next year, so that you have to earn a tier each year to keep it in effect continuously. If you do diamond-in-a-day in January, you would have the benefits for almost two years. Of course, I will maintain my gold tier forever. :-)Quote: NicksGamingStuff... especially since the tier status is only good until the end of the year. Edit: Ooops! Slow posting again.
Quote: scottndindyAnybody know if this is still available and if there are differences in casinos. What type of table play is needed to achieve it if available.
As others have stated, I believe it is 3000 points. They used to vary in different properties, but a few years ago they all went to the 3000 point standard.
As for table games, I don't have any first hand experience but from what I've read from others the points earned at tables are extremely low.
If you want to try the VP route then you might be better off down at the Horseshoe in southern Indiana. VPFree II reports these games as being available:
99.94% SA (FP): 50c, $1
99.80% TB+ (FP): 50c, $1
99.69% SDB (FP): 50c, $1
99.64% Bdlx (FP): 50c, $1
99.62% DDW (FP): 50c, $1
99.54% JoB (FP): 25c, 50c, $1
99.17% BP (FP): 25c, 50c, $1
99.11% DB: $1
98.98% DDB (FP): 50c, $1

It might not have been when you got it, but AFAIK it is now. DIAD is now only good until the following March, so if you get DIAD now, it will expire at the end of March, 2011. If you go on to get Diamond the regular way, then it will be good until March, 2012. I think they did it this way because too many people were generating 3000 points and riding it until it expires, whereas regular Diamond members generate 11000 points per year, or almost four times the revenue. But yes, you get the maximum value from DIAD by achieving it every January.

I happen to be Diamond through Harrah's because everywhere I travel there is a Harrah's casino. They nearly always offer free rooms if available to Diamond members, and down in Horseshoe Southern Indiana, I got free rooms over the 4th of July weekend!
I'm not sure what the house edge is on the game, but one of the Harrah's properties has video BJ tied to the video Keno machines, so it accrues at 1 point to $5 wagered (as opposed to 1/$10 like most video BJ). The casino also runs very generous bonus points days (compared to other Harrah's properties). Combine all of those factors, and you could easily go Diamond there without truly risking that much money, and certainly less than the $900 on 8/5 JoB.
Which casino? The house edge on those blackjack games is usually 2-4%. But it certainly would be lower variance.Quote: TiltpoulI'm not sure what the house edge is on the game, but one of the Harrah's properties has video BJ tied to the video Keno machines, so it accrues at 1 point to $5 wagered (as opposed to 1/$10 like most video BJ).
Occasionally they run opportunities for 100x bonus points (tough to get but I've got 15x points before). The cash back rate is 1000 points = $5, so you could potentially get some cash back.

My roadtrip is December, and I was going to do DIAD someplace along the way, but now I'm going to wait until January. I'm safe until March anyway, so it's all good. Thanks for the info!

It sounds like you are going to do DIAD to regain Diamond status. You might want to check that because as I recall reading somewhere they changed it so DIAD can only be done once, and/or can't be used to regain Diamond status. However, I couldn't find anything about that with a quick Google search so I could be in error. I just didn't want you to go through the process, and the potential expense, only to find it didn't work.
oh and the first hit the machine is set to spit out the voucher(if the win added to credits tops $2500) ...no hand pays on poker machines until the $2500 was okay with me no tipping required
