I need to stop over in Reno for a few days, and need to find out what the procedure is in trying to get a free room when I don't have comps. I also don't have a host. I plan to put through some decent coin in and want rooms while I'm doing so. Can anyone help me out? I never had a host so I have no idea what the procedure is.
Also I heard CET properties changed their coin in per point. Is it still $10 = 1 point at Reno, and can I play it on 9/6 jacks quarters?

dj,
It's been my experience at Harrah's properties when I didn't have any comps, to leave a credit card on file with them on check-in, and the day of check-out, ask the front desk to evaluate my play and decide whether they want to comp the room before I sign the charge sheet. Room comps don't come out of my points, though maybe they can in some situations; they only take my points for meals and other things (I'm just gold right now). Sometimes they send me to the player's club, sometimes to the host desk, sometimes the room clerk can do it. Anyway, they've never not comped my room when I've done this, and it's never come off my points.
While that may be too iffy for you to do (leaving it until the end), you might call the property now and tell them what you want to do and ask if they might want to comp you a room for those particular dates and projected play, or even quote you a casino rate (might be 35/night vs 200/night rack rate: I've seen that at the Rio). Unless you're overlapping the Reno Air Races or some other big event, I think things are very slow in summer/early fall and you can get something out of them.
It might even be a 2 parter: I did this at the Rio, though it was some years ago. I got them to give me the casino rate before check-in, then had them look at my play at check-out, and they comped it completely. The thing you sign on check-in should not be the last word on the subject, but it protects them in the event you leave without checking out. When you check out, that's when you settle the bill.

If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Will they do this with a low theo game like 9/6 jacks? I'm planning on putting in a session to get me to diamond. I'm platinum but never bothered with a host since I figure I don't play high enough. I have no problems getting a room in Las Vegas but elsewhere they don't seem to work.

I only know of one way to find out, and that's to ask the player's club/hosts. Since you're platinum, looking to play hard enough to get diamond in one session, I'd think they'd welcome you with open arms and comp rooms after looking at your play other places. But I'm not them. If you get rooms in Vegas with no problem, to me that's another indication that you'll get them in Reno as well. I mostly play in Biloxi, AC, and Vegas, but I've been comped rooms in KC, Tunica, Laughlin, Reno, and other Harrah's that didn't even know I was coming.
I guess rather than call the property, I'd call 1-800-Harrahs, their central reservation number, and talk to them; they have a lot to do with what website comps are offered, though I don't know the in-house procedure. But I've jumped in the car in Washington headed for AC, called them on the cell, and had a comp room waiting for me without a comp offer I was aware of, so it can be done.

Oh, and I don't know specific to 9/6 JOB; I play 90%+ Paigow, which is a very slow points accumulator at a low HE. The rest is, when I need a break, it might be 3CP, a few slots of low denom, or BJ. Not sure how my rating would compare with yours, but they have a record with your card.

unfortunately there was a classic cars show or something and all the rooms were expensive. 99 bucks at Harrah's, 70 something at Cal-Neva across the street.
Played a ton of jacks and got to diamond! Host only comped my food and cigarettes tho :( Lost a couple hundred earning 7000 points. Ran good on $1. Why couldn't this happen when I played $5 :( Time to load up on food at diamond lounge!

Hot August Nights. (Even though Reno has gone downhill over the past 20 years, Hot August Nights is still a decent draw)

djatc,
Congrats on the diamond, especially at a near-even BR! Sorry they didn't accomodate you better, though. A bit disappointed to hear that. I hope with your play you start seeing better comps from them now.
Can't hear/read Hot August Nights without getting the Neil Diamond meme in my head. Thanks, Beethoven - it'll be in my dreams now...."suuuu....suleimon...sulei sulei suleimon..." Showing my age, I'm sure. (for you young-uns, it was an outdoor concert in 1972 or 74 that had a monster live album, back when there were albums. I'll go drop my teeth in the glass, now...)

From my recent experiences with Harrah's casinos is seems that offers, bounceback, and comps are now being factored on theo win instead of handle as they always used to do it.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

LOL!
(Technically speaking, isn't Neil's album "Hot August Night"?)

Is it also based on location? I can't seem to wrangle a room out of Reno but have plenty of LV hotels to choose from. I only played 9/6, and negligible amounts of craps and BJ.
Disregard this post. I just got comped rooms at Harrah's Reno, but no offer codes. Kinda weird since CET usually sends out promo offers for free rooms. Probably will end up playing craps at Cal-Neva on graveyard, had the funniest dealers at the tables when I was rolling against a darkside player. In a rare moment we both had a great time even though we were making/losing money.
