"hits the button" at the fountain that it cost's $10,000? That sounds like a huge amount for hitting the button.

There are water fountains out side the Bellagio that whales can make go off. The rumor is every time the button is pushed to set them off, it cost $10,000 each time.

Not true, that's the cost per day. At least from something I read in the paper awhile back. The fountains cost 30+ million to build. I'm not sure if the building cost us being amortized into that 300k per month operational cost though. Unfortunately reporters today suck.

People have been saying $10,000 every time the fountain goes off; by someone hitting the button or automatically going off. That sounded too much.

According to this story, it's $250,000, but there's a little more to it than just "hitting the button"; they throw in a giant bottle of Jay Z's champagne, which is supposed to cost over $100K by itself.

So does my memory, particularly of all those bad articles. The main thing is that the Mirage opened with a tremendous "nut" that few thought would be survivable, but the Mirage was extremely profitable right from the start thus bringing gamblers to town even if they stayed elsewhere and, alas, even if they played elsewhere. Once the MBAs got the idea of cutting back on the 'glitz" and letting the Mega-Resorts, such as the Mirage be the "draw", too many places became more parasitic and Vegas became a more expensive destination focusing on restaurants and clubs. The canoneers still live in Vegas as do the cleaners and the choreographers but the emphasis is still away from Major Attractions.Quote: MaxPenUnfortunately reporters today suck.
