Yes. We are still on.Quote: BozBack in PA, sorry I am going to miss this, just confirming with Aye that we are still on for $100 for me on the YES to win $350 with me donating $50 to Rudeboy assuming he beats the challenge.
Quote: TomspurLooks like there is some serious action here. So the challenge is at D McDonalds at what time?
Looks like 5pm Vegas time, Monday the 11th, McD's at the D. Someone care to confirm? I will be simultracking it on here for those of us who can't go.
he pulls a Pierce. (that's what woofing in the trash can
at The D McD's is now called)

I never make prop bets of any kind. That's
why I said 'predict'.
I guess you have to ave some extra scratch for that. I guess your roulette system is not selling well.Quote: EvenBobI never make prop bets of any kind. That's

In case anyone is legitimately worried: I texted him. He replied. He's fine.

Prop bets make for misunderstandings, arguments,
and welshed bets. Learned that decades ago.

A certain young lady recently taught Mike that on a traffic prop bet. He lost the money. She lost a friend.
Happens all too often on prop bets.

I'm very happy to hear that. Thank you for tracking him down.
All the best to you, Mission.
Perhaps you should not have welshed then. You should try harder not to misunderstand and argue.Quote: EvenBobProp bets make for misunderstandings, arguments,

Money can be put upfront so no welshing from you. No misunderstandings on this. we all know the rules by now. Anything can be arbitrated if something comes up. I ave made many prop bets with little or no problems and its been very profitable and fun.

I don't mind kidding around, but this is
over the top. I've never welshed on
a bet in my life.

If you're suggesting Bob welched on a bet, can you provide specifics? Otherwise, that sounds like a personal insult. In fact, I think one of the worst things you could say about a man is that he isn't a man of his word. I'll give you a chance to clarify or apologize.

Was typing just about the same thing at the same time.
Quote: 1BBI think welch or welsh, as it is often spelled, is an insult to the good people of Wales.
Although my spell checker docks me for spelling it with a C, I do anyway out of respect for Wales. What is the proper spelling?

It looks like it was derived from Welsh. Somewhere down the line some folks started to replace the s with the c perhaps for the same reason you do. Welsh is still often the choice. What do you think Paco? Do you want to take this one?

You said, "Perhaps you shouldn't have welced then." That implies he welched on a bet in the past. Here is the post you were evidently referring to.

He doesn't say he learned that by welching on a bet. He could have learned this in a host of other ways.
I still feel an apology is due and am going to give you another chance to make one.

I do apologize to Bob. I truly did not mean he actually welched on a bet. I I admit I was making a joke out of what he said.Quote: WizardYou said, "Perhaps you shouldn't have welced then." That implies he welched on a bet in the past. Here is the post you were evidently referring to.

If I made jokes like that in person, I
would expect to get a really bad reaction
all the time. I know a few people that
would take it very seriously indeed.

This just says that it's "probably" derived from Welsh.
I think that "welch" is correct when referring to non-payment of bets "Welsh" is correct to refer to people of Wales.

The Welsh were looked down upon by the English and were perceived as untrustworthy. I'm not sure why or if it was even true.
Who here remembers the awful term to Jew someone down? That's so offensive I could barely bring myself to type it.

I've actually never heard that one. But don't forget the term "gyp".
I thought the same, then thought I was thinking of the Dutch. Jewing was definitely something I remember hearing and using as a kid. My brain didn't make a connection between jewing and jews though. Lots of those terms were used the same way without any connection by the users and the peoples. In other words just synonyms and accidental homonyms.Quote: 1BBThe Welsh were looked down upon by the English and were perceived as untrustworthy. I'm not sure why or if it was even true.

It's amazing the things we say as kids and don't realize the impact that they have. I remember vividly in third grade (this would have been 1988) calling some little kid a nigger. I remember the teacher freaking out and yelling at me. I went home and told my father about it, who I had picked the word up from. He said that it was fine that I used it. My father is a bit of a racist and victim of his times (he is 79). I didn't learn to see the world differently until I was older.

Can we just say "renegged" rather than "welshed"? No ethnic overtones there.
verb (used without object) [re·neged, re·neg·ing.]
1. to play a card that is not of the suit led when one can follow suit; break a rule of play.
2. to go back on one's word: He has reneged on his promise.
I used that all ready in the lem66 thread no surprise but i'm sure I spelled it wrong.Quote: DaddydocCan we just say "renegged" rather than "welshed"? No ethnic overtones there.
In all fairness Lemm66 didn't technically welsh on any bets and was countless was called a welsher and I may ave leaned my bad behavior from there.
Quote: wudgedWizard, are you still booking bets? I'd like to put $100 on the yes.
Wizard, did you miss this post or are you no longer booking bets? If not, anybody else willing to take $100 on the yes at +300?

I've been staring at this post for a LONG time. I am so tempted to book that action. I'm conflicted though.
The logistics of payment and $au to $us conversion is such a hassle and I don't know "the eater" from a bar of soap, he might be a nugget guzzling machine for all I know.
I'm going to pass. I'm anxiously awaiting the results though. Good luck to all!

Sorry, didn't see that. I've already booked $180 on the yes, which is enough for me.

Hi wudged, I'll take your action. Standard challenge conditions. You pay me $100 if rudeboyoi does not succeed, I pay you $300 if he does. Please confirm.
Quote: DRichI am sorry I am going to miss this challenge. I know it is last minute but if anyone wants action I am willing to bet even money Under 83.5 nuggets.
Make it 80 and I'll take the over.

Is it, "DRich will lose if:
-- at some point in the 100 challenge, rudeboyoi swallows 83.5, even if he doesn't hold them down, and eventually fails the 100 challenge.
or:
-- rudeboyoi eats 83.5 or more, and holds them in for at least 15 min., even if he doesn't complete the 100 challenge (basically renaming the contest, "The 84 Nugget Challenge")"?
It is going to be tricky to determine a winner since there could be more than one measure of success.

Confirmed.

No deal. I think 83.5 is the right number for even money.

Good point.
I will pay if he swallows more than 83.5 even if he succumbs to a reversal.

I liked your post about taking a hike and feeling great.
Above, I dont want to hear "If I complete"
I wanna hear something like, I'm eating 100 nuggets tomorrow.
Lets have some positive thinking.
Remember, this is a marathonn, not a short fast sprint like the 4th of July Coney Island hotdog contest.
Take your time, use the whole hour, limit liquid intake, that just fills your stomach.
Go rude, we met at the mission challenge, shared a pizza. You easily wolfed down your share.
Got confidence in you and got money on this,
Stay positive, no "IF'S, just do it :-)
