I've gotten conflicting information on the best (and by best I mean cheapest) way to buy tickets for Vegas shows. Some advise going straight to the box office just prior to the show and "rushing" it. Others advise using the numerous kiosks along the strip and paying the service fee for a guaranteed seat.

Which is cheapest? How much is a typical service fee? I've never noticed scalpers working independent of the kiosks, but is it an economical option for some shows? Has anyone tried to "rush", and got turned away?

You can't really use the term "SHOW" generically like that and get a reliable answer.

First, if your "action" merits it, ask for a Comp, then you don't care what the tickets cost the casino or how they got them.
Second, if your "action" does NOT merit it, ask for a Comp... and keep your fingers crossed.
Third,,, for the less desirable shows take that Retired Military card out of your wallet and trek up to Nellis AF base. Yes, very limited offerings but definitely the cheapest available.
Fourth,,, depends on your travel and show desires: Join Goldstar and pay for tickets up to weeks in advance and its still a wee bit cheaper than a last minute attempt at many, but not all, shows. Works to your advantage if you go to shows alot or in other cities than Vegas.
Kiosk... heck, some of the shows are discounted all the time and even the biggies start to get a bit stale and start discounting their tickets, so use the kiosks but again it depends on type of show. Major headline acts differ from lower tier acts that are routinely discounted and routinely have tickets available. Tix4T'night is said to be a shade cheaper than Goldstar and a good bit better for ultra last minute stuff but again, it depends on which show.

Right now Cirque is offering lots of discounts to their shows. Visit cirquedusoleil.com/locals . It brings up the discounts anyone can get, not just Nevada residents. The tickets are still expensive though, it would be $100 instead of $150. If you have a friend who lives in town you can see if they have a houseseats or fillaseat membership which offers free tickets for the smaller shows. I saw Barry Mannilow, Blue Man Group, Jubilee, for free with houseseats. There is nothing big on houseats right now, but if you like smaller shows it is a good option. In my 9 months of living here in Las Vegas I have seen most of the regular offerings on the free sites. The only bad thing about Tix4Tonite is you get a voucher and have to go to the box office. I would think it would be better to go early for a better seating selection. Cirque shows are regularly on Tix4Tonite except for O. I have a 2 ticket membership to both sites and I am happy to obtain tickets (they usually give the tickets at the box office to the free site person when they go to redeem them) for anyone in exchange for a beverage and friendly chatter.

I have bought tickets at the "Tix 4 Tonite" booths and been happy with the results. I seem to recall seeing an email about the "Summer of Cirque" promotion going right now where you could get tickets for as low a $55 for Mystere and a couple others.
