Three hotels in Las Vegas are now accepting the Canadian dollar at equivalent value to the American dollar for select gaming, hotel, and drink services.
Circa Resort and Casino, the D Las Vegas, and Golden Gate Hotel and Casino will participate in the ‘At Par’ program until Aug. 31. The goal is to remove financial barriers for Canadians wanting to travel to Vegas.
Canadians will also be able to gamble at par by redeeming up to $500 in slot promotional play, according to the hotels.
The link messes with my computer monitor and makes it blink out. One YouTube channel does the same thing, so maybe it's just DRM on an ad.

So the US Dollar will be falling that fast to parity as US Treasuries are dumped globally post-Davos, or they just need Canadian money at the cage. Of course maybe it's an investment in Canadian currency as the US Dollar fades in value. They must be looking at an apocalyptic trend in the falling US dollar, well below parity after August 31st.
You need to show Canadian identification, and it's not a straightforward cash exchange. Apparently, $1 CAD = $1 USD for:
* hotel reservation
* use at one of three bars (BarCanada (The D), BarProhibition! (Golden Gate), Overhang Bar (Circa))
* a "single-use slot promotional voucher"
Anyone could buy stuff inside, but I think it was limited to a single $10 transaction.

I suspect it has a lot to do with the successful/damaging Canadian boycott on the US. Canadians have really gone All-In on diverting their tourism dollars from the US. Arizona & Florida have also suffered.
I also suspect that it will only get worse after Carney's speech in Davos. That speech appears to be equivalent to a gauntlet being thrown (and a recruiting speech?). Personally, I'm hoping that whatever is going to happen "post Davos" does so very slowly. I have a some positions in a cash account that are only a few months from being considered "long" that I'd prefer to hold onto and sell later (instead of sooner as short term holdings). But, if the dollar starts to tank, I'll have no option but to sell and eat the short term capital gains tax.
I really miss the days when I didn't have to wake up and wonder what impact the WH was going to have on my portfolio and I didn't dread "long weekends" (no pun intended). Investors seem to be abandoning crypto and heading back to gold as a safe haven. So, over a weekend, where can you move your money?

Luckily, it's a small part of their overall business, but he's had to lay people off, and he and his family have cut their salaries so as to keep their workers. Between people drinking less and having idiots in charge of the world, he is no longer confident that his sons will inherit a successful business.

The depressed up there don't have to drink themselves to death anymore. They now have a government approved program for that.
It might have to do with sharia law being enforced in some Canadian neighborhoods too.
To the OP: there's not much to attract anyone to Downtown these days, besides a very low budget traveler and I can't picture a scenario where a Canadian would want to fly here in the winter. Unless they happen to be playing against the Golden Knights.

The pay tables are far better than the Strip. It's easy to walk from one casino to another.
When I go to Las Vegas, I always go to downtown. I gave up on The Strip three years ago.
Canada has a wide boycott of American liquor right now, but don't stop that from getting in your sharia nonsense

Well yeah I think they might want to fly someplace warm for the winter, but this ain't it...

But I could go to Canada and buy-in for $2,000 Canadian instead of $1,500 USD at the Black Jack table. Just a little problem getting across the border with $7.5K+ in USD.

I think perhaps "warmer" is more accurate than "warm"...
Alberta looks to be somewhat cooler at the moment.
